The clam chowder here is fantastic! I highly recommend it and get it with the bread bowl!

Went there to watch a Ducks game and the service from the bald guy in the bar was terrible. Guess I should have read the review from Audrea H. "Maybe if we felt like going somewhere to be ignored. Walked in and sat down and waited almost 15 minutes before anyone even came over and acknowledged us" I couldn't have said it better myself, so I won't try. They were friendly to the locals, and gave them good service. The guy even got snotty with my father-in-law, because we were getting no service from the guy, he asked the lady if he could get a refill on his drink and they bald guy said "don't order from her." This was the worst service I've ever had. Waited outside for 45 mins to get in and waited roughly 15 to order once we sat down. After this we all ordered, hungry as HELL, and the waitress was so sassy taking our orders. Spilled alcohol on my friend. After we all ordered, she waited for 10 minutes to tell us that what we ordered was "out of stock". I know a dark secluded place. A place where no one knows your face. A glass of wine a fast embrace. It's called the Lakeside Hideaway... After driving here from Idaho... pause, and let that sink in for a moment... we were absolutely starving, so we stopped at the first place we saw that featured food of any kind. We knew we were close to the ocean, but we simply could not wait. A quick and inexpensive BLT and a cup of clam chowder later, and we were on our way. Damn! Damn!! Damn!!! We were pissed when we saw all the lovely beach places we could have stopped at instead, if only we were more patient. Wonderful! An intriguing little building, lovely waitstaff, and amazing food that hit the spot after a long 12 hours of driving. My boyfriend and I split the seafood platter (fried prawns, cod, scallops, clam strips, and oysters with fries and coleslaw) and also had a cup of clam chowder each. It was all so tasty and fresh and incredibly filling! Usually I am hesitant of fried food platters because of the greasiness but this was not greasy at all, just nice and crispy. It wasn't much to look at on the outside but we were blown away when we stepped inside. It was clean, bright, airy and warm. The full bar is nice, with flat screens and video lottery. They have a nice deck overlooking the little lake and a big beautiful are for karaoke!! We had fish and chips, chowder and shooters. All of it was all so very good. The service was also very good. Once we got there we were greeted with a 45 minute wait, after being told that our table will be ready in 5 minutes. Though we clearly saw multiple tables available. Do not miss this chowder; I am a serious (25+ year) Professional Taster and Clam Chowder lover and this one takes the cake and is as good, or equal to 'The Green Pier Inn in Northern CA, do not miss it. Went here to watch the football game. Many TV's. Owner let us bunch some tables together for a large group. Waitress was very on top of things constantly asking/brining is drinks. Food was great. I had the shrimp basket and chowder. No complaints from anyone from the group about their food. The waitress worked her butt off during a very busy time. Last night, my wife ordered and received what may have been and probably is the best fish and chips of her life. I was allowed two small bites and based on my portion they were the best fish and chips of my life. Their COVID routine was on the money. The staff was fantastic. In all we had the halibut fish and chips, a burger and a pizza. The pizza was not fantastic but the burger was great and the fries were amazing! We went here before and while it was a little slow, it was good. We go to Rockaway Beach fairly often and we went again a couple of weeks ago and it was some of the worst service I have ever experienced or witnessed. We had to wait several minutes to be seated. We were with our 5 year old and didn't have all the time in the world. We waited a LONG time for her to even come take our order. While we waited at least 45 minutes for our food, I observed the following: a family come in and leave after about 10 mins. of no one even coming to their table, 1 of the 2 waitresses go outside on a smoke break and chat it up with one of her friends for a 10-15 mins. while tables were just sitting waiting for someone to come over, another family come and go without anyone ever going to their table, and a gentleman dining solo ( a local?) who ordered and got food in just a few minutes. We were seething at this point, but didn't have time to go somewhere else. My son was hungry and kept asking for his food. The younger waitress seemed apologetic at least, but the older lady had a really bad attitude and you could tell she didn't give a F about her job or the customers. I even overheard her saying something about not caring and that she would "shut this place down". WTH? When we finally got our food, I hadn't gotten my chowder so told her forget it and we asked for our bill. Younger waitress again seemed apologetic and was real friendly when we were leaving. What happened to this place! My husband and are from Portland and have been regular customers of this restaurant since we discovered it on a weekend drive last Spring. We love to come have the Chowder and Garlic Toast. Up until a month or so ago they had exceptional service, all of a sudden our favorite Bartender and our favorite Server were let go and since the place has fallen apart. I don't understand why they would let go two employees that have the ability to run, and I literally mean RUN, the entire upper and lower level including the bar. Both girls always remembered what we like to drink and on taco Tuesday's even remember with a packed house which one of us likes sour cream with or taco's and which one doesn't. I don't we have ever had better service. The restaurant hired another waitress shortly before our two regular girls, Lia and Holly, were let go. I wish I could remember her name as she is also a very good server but the second time we have driven down to the coast we were waited on by a woman that I believe is the Manager. I believe her name is shari? Long white hair and rail thin. She is a terrible waitress, short tempered, and has verbally abused employees in front of a full restaurant twice that we have seen. Her behavior and weight cause me to wonder if there may be a substance abuse problem that needs to be checked. The Owner Dan is great! Friendly and always concerned about the service and the food. Sorry Dan, I don't believe you will be seeing us again if your Manager is going to be waiting on tables. read more

Tried eating here but after waiting 10 minutes to get acknowledged or seated we heard a woman at another table have to find a server so they could silverware to eat their salad. THEY WERE SWAMPED. But that is ZERO excuse to have staff that have appalling attitudes and even the MANAGER was a snatch. We walked in and stood by the register for about fifteen minutes. Three staff members, including the manager walked by us several times and no one said "hey be right there", no greeting, NOTHING. I was totally ok with it being busy and completely understood waiting, but how can you just walk past customers and not say a word. Finally a waitress came to ring something up and I asked if we seat ourselves or how it worked with it being so busy, she looked up and very rudly told us "if you can find a spot" . Go here if you want to wait for the bartender every time you want a drink (because she's outside smoking). Only stayed for a few rounds Bartender was not friendly, was always outside smoking, was complaining about coworkers in front of customers (like myself and my boyfriend) while outside smoking, reused cups for mixed drinks (which I can get over... but apparently you're not supposed to do, so it makes me wonder what other questionable corners are cut), and topped it off with not washing her hands when coming in from aforementioned smoke break before making more drinks and handling straws that people's mouths go on. Halibut and chips was fresh tasting but either very overcooked or they use frozen fish(our server insisted the fish was fresh). Burger was ok, tasted more like a frozen pattie rather than "angus". The building itself was nice, newer. I ordered a hamburger, medium well. The patty was burned, overcooked (more than well done), and DRY. I couldn't eat the whole thing the burn flavor was so overpowering. I ordered avocados and bacon as toppings. The bacon was also burned. The avocados weren't ripe, so half of the bites weren't edible. (The pieces of avocado were still hard and I couldn't even chew it.) My husband ordered the special of the night, ribs. He enjoyed them, but they were nothing special. Our waitress forgot his salad. When he reminded her, I literally watched her throw it together and bring it to the table. Not impressive. Friday night in a tiny town. I had been up for almost twenty hours, and after talking about going to karaoke at this place and never doing it (there is always a sign outside saying they have karaoke when I drive by), my friends and I decided to take the plunge. Not only was the karaoke amazing (better then any of the places I'd been to in Portland, packed with people and super fun), but the coconut shrimp I got was delicious! The service was great, the drinks were awesome, and I will most certainly be back. Now, onto the karaoke part. You would not expect to have such a great time at a small time karaoke bar, but for the most part, everyone could actually sing. They had hats and blow up guitars you could use as props, and a gigantic library of songs! It was crowded with people of all ages, but not too crowded. All in all it was perfect. read more
