We drove by this place, but made a U turn. I'm glad we did. Lakeview Grill's name actually disguises what's really inside. And that is really good Mexican food. We had tacos... beef and chicken. A little past prime lunch hour, and we were the only ones there. Wife raved about her tacos. I enjoyed mine. Keep in mind, as I always warn, this is not Bern's steakhouse. It is a small, I'm guessing, family-run operation with A/C running full blast and it's still warm inside. Several fans help circulate the warm air. But the Corona is cold, and the chips and salsa are good. We'll be back.

The Pastor Tacos were "street style" and I love them! Here you can choose that style, cilantro and onions, or your "gringo" style, lettuce, tomato, and onion! The refined beans and rice (with peas and diced red peppers) were spot on! I've also ordered the Fiesta Lime Chicken, based on my asking for the server's recommendation! This place was a great surprise as I take out for me and my workmates at the Y just north of here! I love the couple who own this place. They so kind and inviting! Catch a surprise and drop in!

After reading a mix of reviews saying this place is either nothing or the best, we decided to see for ourselves. Basically we were not impressed. The name of the restaurant doesn't reflect the food type, but it's clearly a Mexican restaurant. Inside the decor is Mexican, 90% of the menu is Mexican, & everyone is speaking Spanish. The waitress was kind & did a good job. She brought a small basket of chips & a small bowl of salsa to the table. The chips were heavily salted. The salsa seemed to be plain tomato sauce that had a tiny bit of spice to it. It was very unimpressive. I ordered 2 chicken enchiladas for $8. The enchiladas turned out to be very small with only a tiny bit of filling. I requested the dish be half covered in red sauce & half in green. The green sauce was actually very tasty & spicy. I believe it had both tomatillos & jalapeños in it. The red sauce was even plainer than the salsa. It was flavorless & bland. I keep looking for Mexican restaurants like I'm used to back in California, or Arizona, or New Mexico, or Texas, or Oklahoma. I shall keep searching.

Tomato juice? This is the worst salsa I've ever had in my life.

Halfway through the meal, a asked if I checked in to the wrong place. I had to double check. Yup, this is the place with all the good reviews. I was mislead. I read the reviews, and I was prepared for the place to be a dump; it was. What I wasn't prepared for was the heat. It's July, and nearly 90 degrees outside and as soon as I walked in, I was hit with a heat wave. It was 10 to 15 degrees cooler outside. Maybe the A/C was broken, I don't know. The service was bad. The second server was flat-out rude. Neither offered to refill my empty drink. Finally, when we were finished, we waited for a while. Then, we decided we would just stand up until someone acknowledged us. Even that took a while. Now, on to the food. Nothing was delicious, some stuff was okay, and some of it was really bad. I took one bite of the "salsa" and I was done. First time that's ever happened in my life. It was the worst. It was as if someone squeezed a tomato, poured the juice in a bowl and said, "done"! I ordered three tacos (chicken, pork, and chorizo), the chorizo was okay, and the other two were below average. I tried a fish taco, but the fish had a bad smell. On a positive note, the food came out fast, and wasn't too expensive. It is so hot inside! I can't get over how awful the "salsa" was. I'll not go back for many reasons, and I don't recommend this to anyone.

Forgot the name of the dish... Don Y Plato...? Chille relleno, chillaquilles, carne asada, refried beans, and rice. Nice!

The good is VERY good. Prices were very reasonable and the staff are nice. Our portion sizes were huge. Only thing I was disappointed in is we were the only people in the building and it wasn't a mood. No music not real atmosphere. Again take nothing away from this great place. It's probably a dinner place being that it's off main roads. Will definitely go back. The portion sizes were huge. Lol.

I have only good things to say about Lakeview Grill. I found it on Yelp (of course) when I was searching for an authentic Mexican place to take some of my students on our way back from a beach photography trip. There didn't seem to be anything in Clearwater Beach, so we drove a ways and I'm so glad we did. It was a total hole in the wall, and it would be easy to pre-judge it and not give it a real chance. I wish I could tell you what my students got, but frankly, once my ceviche tostadas came, I think I lost all awareness of anything else. They were so fresh and so incredibly flavorful after a long day of driving and sand that I think I may have entered another plain. *swoon* Was very excited to sit in the air conditioning with Mexican cokes (yesssss) and great food. We were also completely charmed by the decorations in the restaurant, including the elephant figurines by our table and ESPECIALLY by the amazing paintings in the bathrooms. Man, even if you don't go for the food, go for the paintings. You won't regret it. Also loved the faux roof/overhang running along the upper walls. Gives a nice little bodega feel. The only things that could be improved would really be a different setup inside. The table arrangement is a little weird and it's open to the kitchen with a half wall running along one side. It kind of felt like we were floating far away from everyone else. And, well, the parking lot, though I don't think there's anything that can be done about that. It's essentially one way in and angled so you have to back out all the way into the street. During busier hours I can see that being a real problem. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic dining experience and next time I'm in the area, I will absolutely be going back for more.

I love places like this. Lakeview Grill is a small, off the beaten path mexican dive. The people who work there could not be nicer. They welcomed us as we came in and seemed to genuinely want to make us happy (which we were). The food was terrific. Everything we ate, which was a lot, was just outstanding. The style runs towards authentic regional, but it's not purist in that way. They will go out of their way to give you want you want. The storefront is next to a gas station on Lakeview. It's not much to look at. But, I assure you, there is no reason to hesitate to give it a try.

I've gotta say that the other reviews nailed it when the said this is a hole in the wall. It's one of those hole in the wall that you want to find though. The food is pretty authentic. The salsa is not chunky, but it really tastes nice and developed. The spice was perfect. I had a chili relleno. I loved it. The red sauce was amazing, couldn't stop eating it. Dom had a steak quesadilla and he raved the whole time. The service good. The server wasn't overly friendly, but he was helpful and definitely not rude. Update. You know how it goes. You find somewhere you like (see above) and you bring someone back for another great experience and it's a fail. I asked for a side and the server told me they were too busy. . Huh? There is only two other parties here.

I was very disappointed when I did not love this one as much. The bread was as delicious as ever, if you like mayo, this is definitely a sandwich you should get because they slather on the mayo. I found the refried beans to really overwhelm the sandwich with the small amount of vegan steak strips they put on it. They must have changed their vegan steak recipe because it tasted nothing like it did at the other location. Although to be fair, I haven't been to the other location in probably a decade. The vegan strips were very crumbly I wouldn't even call them strips, they were little bunches. I think this sandwich has the potential to be great, but it needs to have a good protein showing. My husband got chipotle chicken taco, and a steak taco. The chipotle chicken is actually a chipotle sauce that is creamy, which he doesn't like. I ended up eating his chipotle chicken, which I thought was OK. We also got chips and queso, the chips are good and the queso was fine. This location has both inside and outside seating, we were there at about 6 PM and it was pretty empty so there were tons of tables open. They did have a TV showing big city greens so if you have kids, they would love that. I probably would give this place another try, but I would definitely order a different dish.

Lobstah Mac N Cheese 2 of 5 - It pains me to rate this low as it should have been good and the presentation was an experience. However, the flavor was absent from this dish. The cheese was watered down tasting without a cheese flavor or anything else. The lobster was also absent of flavor and since the cheese was lacking it then I could only rely on the pasta being cooked well. Service could have been good, but the music system was so loud I couldn't hear her most of the time and she was right next to us. She was nice and moved us further away from the live player, so I'll say she tried her best to accommodate for that. Overall experience 3 of 5 and probably mostly cause of the service trying and the beer.
