I was entertaining some friends from out of state who love craft beers. I was so happy to find Lakewood Growler to showcase the different beers in Texas. We ordered at the bar, and the bartender was so helpful and gracious. He let us try several different samplers and talked about each brewery to my friends. He was warm and welcoming. The atmosphere was casual, but will say that we would have liked a seat with a back (the bench seating got a little uncomfortable after a while). Seems like a decent beer place. The staff is friendly. I came here specifically for the Gumbo cookout and it was a disaster. They started 45 minutes late and were still unprepared. I just left instead of standing outside in a long line waiting where people were literally eating gumbo over the open crockpots of communal food. Gross. read more

Great neighborhood spot for a beverage - if they are available, highly recommend the beer and girl scout cookies flight. The space is older, a little grungy, but the vibes are friendly and welcoming. The quality of beer and customer service at every brewery I visited were worlds better than LG. Oh and not once did anyone not let me sample a beer. Celebrating the big 28. The in laws are in town, currently on baby duty. A night out with the husband. Sounds like a perfect night to indulge in some good ole brew. We went to a couple hang out spots in the Park Lane area in Dallas, and there was a wait just about every stop we made that Saturday night. My sister bookmarked Lakewood Growler here on yelp and urged me to check it out. We initially believed this establishment to be closed upon arrival. Very dark and low key. Around 8 pm, there was 1 other couple enjoying each other's company. Behind the counter was a guy and gal taking orders and pouring up glasses. The digital menu provides information about local and out of state beers, the alcohol content, brewsky's color, and how much is currently in stock. If you don't know what you like or what you want, I recommend a flight. You can try 4 different beers at a time, and if you don't like it, you can either suck it up and down it in a couple of gulps or just not drink it at all...you shouldn't feel too bad about wasting it. Just about all the table's were occupied by the time we left (about 845), so just like everywhere in Dallas, the earlier you arrive the better. It's not your typical tavern, I was pleased at the fact that my husband and I could enjoy each other's conversation and actually HEAR OUR OWN VOICES!! Love the beer. Love the prices. I was a frequent visitor to both the Lakewood & Bluffview Growler locations & would regularly fill up my 1 gallon growler and/or 1-2 crowlers. Unfortunately, they instituted a new policy that doesn't allow you to sample any beer that has a star by the name. Huh? Guess they want you to order a 'beer sampler' but that's not practical when filling a growler to go. read more

Attention, alumni of The Gingerman and Flying Saucer, you are going to LOVE Lakewood Growler. It's the very definition of the perfect neighborhood bar. Before this place opened, I didn't know what a growler was. It's a larger format, 64-oz beer jug. You can buy beer by the glass ($6-8) or by the growler/half-growler (to go). In fact, a surprising number of people seem to stop in to get their beer to go. The selection is very impressive (36 taps!), and focused on Texas craft beer. I love that their website shows you what's on tap at any given time -- and how much of it is left. You can taste before you buy, and the bartenders are happy to make recommendations. It's in the same strip mall as the Albertson's (plentiful free parking). And because they only sell beer and wine (not liquor), they're even open on Sundays. They don't serve food, but you're welcome to bring your own, and Olivella's (pizza), Taco Joint, and Ginger (Thai) are nearby. The place does get loud at about half capacity, but I definitely enjoy the steady playlist of classic rock. All in all, a delightful atmosphere, a cool, casual venue, and beers you might not find on tap anywhere else. read more

I love the LAKEWOOD GROWLER!! I have always been a fan of the beer selection and staff. This has been my go to spot for almost 2 years. Just a nice place to drink beer and have a low key night. 30+ beers on tap absolutely no liquor and a few wine choices but nothing fancy because this is by far a craft beer bar. Some nights they have special tappings and buy the pint keep the glass nights. But this is definitely a place that has a beer for everyone's liking. Don't know what to pick-- just ask!! Emily and Ross definitely know what's being served up and can give you a good idea of the flavor profile of the beers. There are always NEW beers to enjoy, and if you can't commit to one then do a flight of 5 oz pours. Can't go wrong there. They don't serve food here, but they have popcorn to snack on. The best thing is that there are several places to eat within walking distance, so call in your order or pick it up before arriving and bring it down for a beer. The Growler is not a big place and it is often crowded. In less than two years, I think they have outgrown their space!! I do not want them to move whatsoever, but they do need more seating. The only thing or negative thing I can think of about this place is--- I dislike walking in and see kids and/or babies. Think local, drink local might apply to Lakewood Growler. They have literally dozens of taps and each one is a Texas beer with an emphasis on brews from the DFW area. While their intention is to sell growlers, it is also a great place to grab a glass of their ever changing beer menu. From what I could tell, all beers are on tap. No bottles. And the sign that features the beers is worth the trip alone. Not only do you get the usual info of name, brewer, style and ABV, it also tells you how much product is left in the keg. And if your date isn't a beer nerd like you, they have a selection of Texas wines available. Parking is ample and well lit. It is sandwiched between Albertson's and Dee's Doggie Den. My husband and I came here to check out a pop-up (Hella Lumpia). This spot is nestled in a pretty regular strip mall in the Lakewood neighborhood of Dallas. Kind of surprising to see such a cool spot for beer and hangouts with friends here! The establishment is somewhat on the small side with one area to order and drink beer/socialize. There are community tables where you can sit and mingle with others. Not sure if it was because of the pop-up, but there were quite a number of folks here and it was kind of a hard time finding a seat. After ordering some food from the pop-up, we ordered some Peticolas beer. They offer a wide variety of local beer which is awesome. The environment was very friendly and chill so overall we had a good time eating good food, drinking a brew, and meeting some new friends. I am really happy that this place opened and is so conveniently located to my home. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. If you are not sure what you want they offer a small sample to help. There are more than 35 different fresh craft beers, and my understanding is that there is a fair amount of rotation. Someone complained that the beer is pricey, but if you do the math you'll find that good quality craft beers in bottles actually cost more by the ounce than a 64 oz growler. I've tried Belgian dark ale and a stout called Tempress. Both are excellent. I'll be coming back here for sure and often. read more

Easy to find and great parking space. The place is located within a shopping area in proximity to ASI Gymnastics. I came here for a Hella Lumpia pop-up and the place was filled! Lakewood Growler is a fantastic addition to the growing craft beer community in East Dallas. We recently got back from the soft open and have nothing but positive things to say. To start off, the manager's last name is Czech, so you know he knows good beer. Also, every tap is a Texas establishment, and 75% of the taps are Dallas establishments! We are truly in the golden age of Dallas craft beer. Anyways, the manager and staff were more than helpful to show my wife and I through several of the beers they had on tap that we were less than familiar with. When we settled on our first choices (at $4 to $6 a pint, VERY competitive in the Dallas market), we took our seats. For the rest of the night, we were attentively seen to be the staff for any refills or drink changes we needed. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff. The crazy part is, is that this bar is only going to go up from here. There were lines upon lines of people getting pints and growler fills, but it never seemed crowded. The staff was never stressed. And the customers never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a beer. This is an all around great craft beer establishment. I consider myself blessed to live within walking distance of it. read more

I was NOT convinced to go, mumbling "mrrbmrgoing to a damn beer joint in a damn strip mall, mrrbmr mrrbmr i could be home watching RHOBH mrrbmr".... Then we entered. Well, spank my britches, it was fuckin' awesome. Nearly every local beer you could want and some obscure non-local ones too. Games and cards to occupy you during your libation ingestion. I love the atmosphere, it's cool but laid back and the staff was cool and not all hipster'ish know it all at all. If you're in the area, try it out! Alright so I'm updating my review and upping my rating due to awesome customer service. So my first review was solely based on my first impression from my first visit. After 7 visits I came to realize the service here is top notch. The staff is friendly and go out of there way to help you choose the right beer. This place is pretty dang cool. It's a growler joint so you can bring your own or buy one of theirs and get them filled. Or if you just want to have a couple of beers and hang out you're welcome to do that too. They don't have a kitchen but do have menus from surrounding restaurants to order from. It's priced pretty great also. I went last week and bought a growler, had it filled and drank a beer while I waited and it cost me around $25. Not bad. They have a huge selection, around 35 beers, to choose from. They also have a screen that shows how much beer is in each keg, how much each beer costs, and now much it costs to fill a growler. The only thing I found confusing is that each beer is on the screen with a number on it and the taps only have numbers on them. I need a little more hand eye coordination, I guess. Plus I'm kind of a crappy beer picker so I wish they had a menu that had a little description, so at least I'd know that I was making informed bad decisions. I don't think a menu is in the works because they seem to change the beers quite frequently. Oh well.. I'll be back, especially now that I have my fancy new growler to fill! read more

This is a good place to get some great beer. The selection hits almost every genre and the website / store menu feature a "level" indicator for each beer. They sell some growlers on site, and the fill prices seem reasonable. There is no food served, and dogs are welcome. Service was friendly and there is free popcorn to snack on! There are 2 downsides: there is no paper menu available, so ordering can be a bit awkward at the point-of-sale (which butts up to the bar seating). There is a doggie daycare next door and the smell of cleaning products/wet dogs is very noticeable as you approach the building. To be fair, there isn't any smell once you're inside. read more

Topnotch service! Went for a Temptress glass night last night and the bartender was not only pouring beers behind the bar but also waitressing and doing a fantastic job at both even though it was quite busy! She remembered my name after I only told her once and addressed me by name all evening! I also love the tap list that shows how full the kegs are and the fact that they held my growler for me in the cooler until we were ready to leave. Free WiFi so it's a great place to just come chill, enjoy a few beers and fill your growler. Very cozy and laid back. Flights are reasonably priced. The digital menu lists all the beer on tap and also provides a brief description of the style of beer and the flavor. It's apparent they only like the "locals" - and when i say locals i mean to the neighborhood. I say this because while we stood back to decide what we wanted in our 64 oz the girl behind the bar did a speed round on about a half dozen "locals " within about 2 minutes (im assuming here since she acted like she recognized her customers) ! What I'm getting at is that we were trying to be herded through with the rest of the cattle but when we showed slight hesitation they didn't seem very happy with us. Don't get me wrong, they filled our growler, gave us samples, la la da da, but didn't really care much past that and to top it off we never saw a smile and i dont recall a thank you. My wife and i have been here several times and even bought a growler from them but we only stop by when we are in the Area on our way to relatives... The reason i leave this review is because we get the same experience every time, they just dont care if you come back or not and that is the impression we have gotten every time. Hopefully we wont have to go back for awhile. Many places around town will take our money to fill the growler or have a local craft beer. read more

Walked in and was surprised to find a small, cozy place. I was immediately greeted by 2 of the beer pros. The selection is amazing and the beer tastes great. They are obviously taking great care keeping the lines clean. I have to specifically mention Emily. She was very knowledgable about all the beer sections and made recommendations that were right on the money for me. Service was awesome and it was so nice to see the employees really enjoying what they do. Couple opportunities for improvement: 1. Food - not a deal breaker because Taco Joint is 2 doors over and you can just bring it in. Otherwise they have a little popcorn machine in the corner. I think pizza places deliver to Lakewood Growler too. 2. Website - Great to see all the current tap levels, but I couldn't figure out how to get basic bar information from the site - like directions, hours, weekly specials, etc. Already planning my next trip.
