The meat tasted old like a had been sitting in cardboard and soaked up all the cardboard flavor, and I'm talking about the Gyro meat tasted like cardboard, the lettuce and tomatoes were wilted beyond promise. So this is what I'll call an interesting experience as it just came to completely that! Coming here my friends wanted pizza and I'm like from a Greek restaurant sure why not so the pizza we did get while it was decent it wasn't the best it had a unique crunchy kinda crust but the whole pizza lacked flavor and the much needed boost for it we found to be the Greek dressing as that was super good my friends wanted had gotten a salad and said the dressing was awesome so we started putting it on the pizza and that right there made it sooo much better in a unique kinda way! Their fried zucchini was pretty bad frozen and just not something I can be happy to say that I ordered as I make this all the time at home and yeah this one just didn't measure up! Overall this is a very dated restaurant with a local following which I can see is what's keeping them going put it this way nothing I had here would make me wanna come back but who knows maybe their Greek food is where it's at! read more

We love Greek food to start with. This hidden gem is a very welcoming and friendly staff make you feeling like you are at home. My favorite is Lemon Roasted Potatoes. It's always a good choice to combine with a Village Salad. They name it Horiatiki Salad. Full Horiatiki is a very generous size and easy to be shared between two people. In the area and looked up Greek places 3 popped up and I choose this mom & pops gem. Service was excellent everyone was so sweet. The salad came with the meal I ordered. I was expecting more of Greek style salad but this was very light and refreshing and they bring a bottle of there homemade vinaigrette which is fantastic! I went with the pork tenderloin for dinner and swapped the rice for lemon potatoes. The pork was juicy and cooked perfectly! Portion was great I struggled finishing my pita. This place is always great. We started with the saganaki - a classic. It was very good - could have been a little larger. The chicken orzo soup was delicious - and plentiful for $6.99. Don't sleep on the salads they serve with every meal. You will not find tastier or more beautiful tomatoes anywhere. My wife had the moussaka and I had the souvlaki. After attempting to go to two different new eateries (one newly opened but oddly closed and one not open yet) we decided to hit Lakis Greek Resturant for date night. We were quickly seated and our drink orders taken. Within 15 minutes our dinners were served: Tour of Greece and Athenian Pasta. We also ordered some hummus and pita. We don't visit often enough, to be very honest. The food was awesome. The pasta was perfectly light with the spinach, mushrooms, broccoli and feta cheese. The tour of Greece was very tasty, but the lamb was absolutely PERFECT. We were so full we had to pass on the baklava and baklava cheesecake, but usually it's delicious. Had such a fantastically delicious adventure for the tastebuds at Lakis! How have I been to Ocala a 100 times and never been here until now?!? Well, now it's a must for every return trip. My husband and I enjoyed absolutely everything we had and kept saying it was the best Greek we've had - you can tell there is care in the recipes and preparation. The service was friendly and restaurant was clean with great Greek murals on the walls, too. Interesting Greek restaurant with a spin adding Italian on the menu. We WAY over ordered but it was nice to try a few different things. Sampler platter was good, loved the spanakopita and tzatziki sauce. Salad was so odd that it came with like shaved ham on it. It was so hard to pick around and I don't eat pork so that was a bummer. I never would have expected that or would have ordered it on the side. Chicken kabobs and falafel gyro were both delicious. This place was a nice local standout in a Mecca of crap chain restaurants. We have been fans of Lakis restaurant since they opened more than 30 years ago. Authentic Greek food run by a friendly Greek family who do a great job with all the items on the menu. From a simple gyro sandwich and fries to the Tour of Greece gigantic dinner you can never go wrong. If I had one complaint about Lakis is that the decor is somewhat outdated so inside could use an upgrade. But if you have never been there you might not notice. Love Lakis it's just very expensive! Our go to is the house special pizza, Greek salad and chicken souvlaki which they just call kebabs. Love everything except for the rice which is really disgusting! Never had that rice anywhere and I've eaten Greek my entire life and in many states. They need to switch to pilaf of something! Other than that, everything else has been nothing short of amazing! Just writing this review makes me want it and I'll probably get it tomorrow! read more

The spanikopita was tasty albeit a bit greasy but flavorful. Half of the pita was hard and crunchy and the other was soft but all was well seasoned and tasty. Great little Greek place that was busy, but not packed for a Wednesday. We ordered the Zucchini fries that were served with a marinara sauce. They were crispy and served very hot! I ordered the Chicken Gyro and Steak Fries. Great serving and tasted great. My wife ordered the Spanikopita. Even though she was told the did not contain onions, she spent a bit of time picking them out. She then ordered the Feta Pie... much better , with no onions. Let me just say that this lil place might not look like much from the outside, but their food is as best as any I've had from the BIG restaurants...I had a small dinner once, years ago, at a big huge restaurant in Tarpon Springs close to the Greek sponge docks...cost us over $100 for the dinner and we got LESS food back then for that meal than we received today for less than 1/2 that price! We started out with fried calamari with a side of marinara and dolmadas that came with a side bowl of tzaziki sauce! Absolutely delicious and there were sooooo many dolmadas! The full app of dolmadas has so many, I barely made it thru all of them! I had maybe 6 left on the plate (keep in mind this place was sooooo slammed with dinner customers!) that it took me the next hour to eat them all. For dinner we ordered the gyro platter for me and my husband got the baked spaghetti with meatballs, sausage and mushrooms. So much darned food! Understandably, it took forever to get our entire meal...BUT we finished one part and said "Omg I'm so full" after each course and as we sat and talked, we became less full just in time for our next course to come out! Worked well for us since we were out to relax and enjoy ourselves, but not so much for others who didn't want to wait. Seems to me that those who waited were happy and more than satisfied; those who left before being seated were perturbed, unhappy and in a huge rush to begin with. In the evening, sitting down to a fabulous meal while being able to chat with my hubby (whom I haven't seen all week) and not be in a terrible hurry...well, this is my happy time. Getting your main course while you just started on your appetizer is disturbing to me. It may have been a long dinner, but it played out perfectly. *keep in mind, this was about 7pm on a SATURDAY night as well!* To the owners and staff of this lil restaurant, I say "Bravo"! Excellent service, excellent food. Appropriate pricing and our gal that waited on us has only been there 3 short weeks? Days? I forget how long now, but she was absolutely the heart of courtesy and kindness. She never forgot us, our drinks, extra napkins or anything. In fact, for as much craziness there was in there for a Saturday night, she was faster and more attentive than any waitress we've had at much less peopled restaurants. Shows that she's a keeper as our $15 tip should tell you too. If you're not in a rush during the dinner rush hours, you'll enjoy yourself. If you're in a rush, please don't be rude to people. Just go elsewhere. The shared huge parking lot was full to the brim, but there were people for 2-3 restaurants using the same space. I'm sure if we'd gone earlier or on a different day, we'd seen many more empty spots. People were standing along the wall up front waiting to be seated when we arrived, but within just a few minutes, it seemed, we were seated and had menus in our hands and drinks on our tables. If you're NOT in a rush and looking for plentiful food that is hot, fresh and cooked to order for each person, this is your place. Not really greek but ok. The gyro platter came out with 3 strips of meat that was dry and hard...way over cooked. The rice was supposed to be veggie rice but ended up being dirty rice that you'd get at Popeyes Chicken. The pita bread was equally hard as a rock. The place was busy so maybe it was a bad night. Fast-casual Greek seems to be a growing trend, but if you want the old-fashioned way (i.e. serving one order at a time), Lakis is the place to go. The owner had closed the place some time ago so she could visit Greece and learn authentic Greek cuisine. That time away served her well-- the food is SO GOOD. And there's just not Greek food, but also some Italian dishes. With so much food to choose from, I had a feast and ordered quite a few plates (but apologies I didn't picture everything-- I was starving!). My family and I ordered the Eggplant Parmiggiana, Chicken Kebabs, Fried Calamari, Greek Village Sampler, Athenian Pasta, Lakis Platter (pastisio, moussaka, dolmades, spanakopita), Tour of Greece, and Laki's House Favorite. I've been craving dolmades-- a mixture of rice and beef wrapped in grape leaves-- and they did not disappoint. The phyllo pastry was super thin in the spanakopita but surprisingly not soggy! What a feat despite all the moisture the spinach and cheese held. The moussaka was bubbling and even if I'm not a fan of eggplant, I could eat this dish any day! The chicken kebabs were the only let down. They were really dry and could use a bit more seasoning. Overall, I would come to this place again. I have yet to make a dent in their menu. Went on an Ocala run, and I love to explore new food places in unfamiliar areas. Found this nice Greek spot close to where I was heading. Small spot, larger than a hole in a wall, little dated but was greeted with a smile. Service was slow, due to them being busy and understaffed. Not a deal breaker, waitress was nice. Food was decent not great everything a little underwhelming with the dolmades being our favorite. The tzatziki was home made but lacked flavor. Gyro platter was basically an over cooked pita with gyro meat, tomato and onion. All fresh. The gyro meat was a bit bland and tasted almost like it was store bought or frozen then cooked. The lemon potatoes didn't have much flavor so got a side of tzatziki and hot sauce to docker them up. Pro tip dump the side green salad on the gyro meat. Fried calamari was pretty solid, red sauce was basic but good. Wife enjoyed her salad was fresh and bright. Would definitely give this place another shot and fairly well priced. read more

I was visiting my parents for the holidays from Orlando and we wanted to go some place other than the same 4-5 places we usually go when I'm in town and I was delighted to see Lakis was still in business! We arrived around 6:30pm and were seated right away! I used to live in Ocala growing up and remember Lakis quite well and so I was thrilled to know they haven't changed a bit! Despite some moderate updating to the interior, the food is still delicious and the service was prompt. I am sad to see how dead it was inside however. Perhaps it's location or just this one evening but I remember Lakis being packed years ago. I truly hope that changes because this is a great Greek restaurant in Ocala. Dare I say...the best. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken Gyro platter with a side of lemon orzo soup. My mom got the chicken Marsala which was massive and my dad also got the chicken gyro. We left spending roughly $60 which is fair for portion size, cleanliness, speedy service, and friendly staff. I truly hope Lakis is around for years to come because it quickly became my favorite hidden spot in Ocala again. 10/10 must visit! read more
