I think over the years this place has lost its magic for me. I still really like their Hawaiian poke but the fish is all cut up so unevenly and there are very large chunks of fish and mango (which is good, but harder to eat) and not as much rice as I would like per bite. They still give you a free sushi piece per person (spicy fish with Kani on top). We also got some green tea but it has a rice flavor to it. Also, we got tonkatsu ramen and didn't eat much of it with the egg being severely overdone. Lastly, the rolls come apart very easily. I tried giving this place one last try but it really just confirmed what I had started thinking over the years, that it is definitely no longer my go-to.

One of my new go-to places for sushi in Morristown. The sushi is fresh and larger scale. They also have a variety of dishes in addition to sushi like Poke bowls, and Korean food. At our latest visit my hub and I shared the sushi and sashimi platter for 2. You choose 2 specialty rolls to include. We had the Scotty special roll and Toromari roll. Both amazing rolls. I was very impressed by our platter. See pic. My kids shared the Tempura box with shrimp and vegetables. The tempura was plentiful. Box includes Cali roll, edamame, and a spring roll. They liked it all. Service is fairly fast and they take reservations. Dining area is casual.

I've heard good things about this place from som friends and wanted to check it out. The service and dining area was very nice and inviting. The food was excellent, Sushi tastes as good as it looks and was impressed with the amount of food I got in the Teriyaki box which I had leftovers to take home. Not a huge fan of the salad but it's probably more me not liking the seasoning. I definitely will be back!

So I've been kinda lame with my sushi eating history. I always stick to my same favorite 3 rolls (spicy salmon, spicy tuna, or eel avocado) and I never venture off from them. That changed today. Today I randomly browsed this Morris Magazine and noticed they featured specifically the Alaskan Bay roll from Laku Sushi and I was like WELL, I'm going to have to try this now. I guess magazines still work for advertising (at least with me lol). So, because I rarely get other rolls, I called and ordered an Alaskan roll. I thought about it...and realized this is probably not the same as an Alaskan Bay roll. So I ended up with an Alaskan roll and an Alaskan Bay roll. Also an order of gyoza. Thank you magazine for leading me to try this insanely good roll!!! I've been meaning to try Laku Sushi for awhile now and this will be my go to sushi spot. The Alaskan Bay roll is A LOT different from the Alaskan roll. It's like poke and sushi combined. I never had anything like this before. This is probably a typical sushi special roll experience and I have just been missing out. The salmon was soft and fresh. The flavors of the scallion and spicy mayo really shined through. Also liked the little *pops!* of the masago. Alaskan roll was more simple, but still very fresh tasting. Nice crunch from the cucumber. And the gyoza was great! Liked that it was fried. Interior fits a decent amount of folk. Everyone was super nice. I liked how my order was done quickly despite having a full house of people. Now I just need another magazine article to help me choose my next roll. ;)

My in-laws had been moving all day and were hungry and exhausted. We nipped in here for a quick dinner and over-ordered because everyone was very hungry. The sushi is so good that it was still delicious the next day. Cold. The friendly, attentive staff, warm ambiance and complementary roll was also a lovely touch. No wonder it's a local favorite (this was our first time). Really liked the Morristown and spicy shrimp dragon roll.

Our new favorite spot!! My boyfriend and I have been going several times a month since we found the place. The sushi here is incredible, it tastes so fresh and is HUGE. The menu is pretty big, and we'd love to try more of the japanese entrees. My favorite is the teriyaki bento box because it comes with everything you need. Both the chicken teriyaki and the salmon teriyaki is delicious, as well as all of the appetizers. BYO and it is the perfect date, we never get tired of it. They are usually packed on the weekends, so dont wait too long to order your takeout.

Very solid spot in Morristown. I would highly recommend. Ordered the unagidon bowl (marinated eel over rice) as take out. I've eaten this in Japan and have high standards for this dish and what I ate was pretty solid in comparison. They gave a generous portion of food and the eel was seasoned/ flavored pretty well. The pickle and wasabi were a nice balance to it all. The salad was somewhat unremarkable, but it was just an addition to the main dish. I had a bite from my friends sushi and it was extremely good too. My food came out very fast, about ten minutes or so, from ordering. I was also very happy with their COVID precautions. I would recommend this place and I will definitely be back to try more of their sushi and try some of the other things on their menu.

    454. Japanese Style Ramen Soup (Tonkotsu)

Ordered their delivery and arrived well. Had the Tonkotsu ramen and it had a rich flavor. I know ramen is not their main dish, so it was good to try. To improve, I'd add more veggies like mushrooms and the boiled egg instead of being hard I'd make it soft. My husband had the combo don, the portion was big and he like it. The tuna wasn't super fresh but overall was good.

My friends and I came here the other night and we loved it!! They have BYOB which is a nice feature and they gave us complimentary miso soup. I got some seaweed salad to start which is a classic and then we shared a 7 roll party platter amongst 5 people. We were pretty stuffed at the end/the rolls were HUGE. They really don't skimp on how much raw fish they put and it was all super fresh/delicious. They're like an asian fusion restaurant so they had other dishes that you'd typically find at a korean restaurant such as bibimbap. My boyfriend got that and it was very yummy. Overall, great place and hope to come back at some point!

Went during dinner and the prices are pretty steep for the quality. I got two roles of sushi and the kani salad. The sushi was good but not anything to rave about. There are a lot of other places to try around Morristown so I think I am going to start looking.

The bad news is they lost points due to making us wait almost an hour for a small order -the staff is very nice but they appeared to be filling a ton of Grubhub orders before us and the place was half empty. It would've been nice if they gave us a free soup or something to apologize for the long wait but c'est lavie. Other issue - the main one- is their prices are astronomical for a hole in the wall joint in Morristown. As high as any of the Manhattan glam spots, i.e. Soho, Madison Ave, Columbus Circle, etc. Where else do you pay $13 for a salmon roll? 90% of places charge around $7-8 per, so you're looking at a very steep bill. Again, the fish is great but be prepared to spend hi end prices for a hole in the wall joint.

In a nutshell, they prioritized catering-size take-out orders over seated customers, and tried to pad the bill after we handed our credit card. We had a 6PM reservation for 2 and we were the only people in the restaurant. We had a 7PM business call scheduled, and being the only seated customers, assumed we were good on time. A table of 3 and table of 2 walked in after we were seated and placed our order. We merely ordered 2 rolls, each and 1 order of salmon sashimi. Our meal took more than 1.25 hours to be served, because the restaurant was pumping out To-Go orders. Not small To-Go orders, but large round catering trays of sushi and specialty rolls! Our meal was served in "dribs & drabs," not all at once as we usually experienced here. One order of sashimi, wait 10 minutes, then one roll, wait 15 mins, then one more roll... still waiting for two more rolls. The rolls were loose... not like we were used to. Something changed at Asahi. After waiting another 25 minutes, we told our waitress that we preferred our entire order served all at once. Her reply was "it's out of my control how it comes out," with a shoulder shrug. We asked for the manager, and complained that Asahi is making its seated customers wait over To-Go orders. The manager said sorry & tried to give us free dessert. We didn't eat it and we told her we were now late for a business call, because it took an hour and a half for 4 rolls and an order of salmon sashimi. To make matters worse, they overcharged us. Our bill was approximately $88. and when the waitress took we card and ran it, the waitress added a $20. speciality roll that we didn't order or have, increasing the bill to $113. The manager had to fix that, which delayed us further. The food and service were great 3 times prior back in 2025, but this experience was so bad, we will never be back.

Some nights we love it but nights like tonight, where we ate there, was totally just fine. Grilled calamari was rubber. Gyoza was tasty but not hot enough. Edamame fine. Our table of three was immediately seated at a very clean table, and the servers were on top of our every need. Very attentive to refreshing drinks, offering water, and our need for more time to review the offerings on the menu. Food is very good, some of the best sushi I've had in the area and most authentic to what you likely would receive in Japan. The prices are not quite a match to the quality, however. While everything seemed super fresh, i's So expensive. The lobster roll was tremendous, but at $24 it was by far the most expensive piece I've ever ordered. I may do it again if I return, not sure. When dressed up with the rice and caviar, it's hard to taste the actual lobster and you could have placed scallop or cod in there and I may not have known. Drinks - very expensive. Mixed drink is $14 and served in a super-sized shot glass at best. I can easily think of three other great Sushi venues within 10 miles that are BYO and far less for not much less in quality....but I'm glad I tried it. This would be a five star review with more reasonable prices. If their goal is to differentiate and keep the riff-raff out with high prices, they will likely succeed in that. So sorry, I didn't take one photo!! Unlike me...
