The view is awesome, the main meals were great, and the staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back for all of that. However... I now crave that freaking bread pudding. My friend and I came to this happening place for dinner. It was about a half hour wait and the hosts notified us by text when our table was ready. We were seated right by the window, with a view of the ocean. The restaurant was still festively decorated with a lovely Christmas tree, hanging snowflakes and chandeliers by the bar, and other holiday decor. I decided to order the Macadamia Crusted Halibut ($33), which was served with a white butter sauce, as well as "loaded" mashed potatoes, and roasted carrots. The dish looked visually appealing, but was not completely satisfied with my meal. The macadamia crust on the halibut was decent, but not as well seasoned as I would have liked. However, the halibut was cooked well and delightfully tender and flaky. The accompanying savory sauce was rich, smooth, and flavorful. I was disappointed with the "loaded" mashed potato because the name was misleading. I was expecting bacon and cheese, and there was no presence of either of those ingredients. There was just some mushrooms thrown in and a bunch of green onion on top. While the mashed potatoes were pretty creamy, I wasn't impressed. The carrots were just okay. They tasted kind of bland. Service was good. Our waiter was nice and everything came out in a timely manner. I was just expecting more from the food, especially since the price point is so high. We went on a random Wednesday at a weird time, so it was fairly empty, but all staff was really nice and we got a beautiful view by the big windows. Food was great, got the steamed mussels for an app and fries which were both really tasty. Also ordered the seafood risotto and the pesto pasta with blackened shrimp. Risotto was delicious, the scalps and asparagus in it were cooking perfectly, and the pasta was great lots of pesto (heavy on basil for my taste, but really good) but the shrimp was delicious! We had a strange experience at Lalla. I'll start with food. All the food ordered was amazing, fresh, and came out hot. Between us we had Mahi Mahi, crab stuffed salmon and seafood pasta. The cocktails were light on the alcohol but I sort of expect that. The service was odd. We arrived early (5:30p) on a Friday to make sure we'd get a table for 4 for a celebration dinner on the ocean. We stood in the middle of the restaurant for several minutes when we politely asked if a table at the window was open rather than a booth because we had gifts. By the way, there are no bad tables here. But the hostess was so odd about our request. She didn't say no, or yes or explain why she just sort of stood looking uncomfortable like she couldn't decide in the middle of the restaurant until another more senior maybe staff came over,they conferred and decided to let us take the table but almost like under duress. It was odd but we had just asked a simple request, the tables were not full, and no parties waiting. We had drinks, ordered and ate. We were offered the dessert menu and said yes we'll take a look. I guess we didn't decide fast enough because our waiter returned and I said we needed another minute and he said, "ok but just to let you know there are a lot of people waiting." And then he left us to decide. In the meantime I counted 4 open tables and 2 people at the bar and not a single party waiting. He came back and we ordered. Before we had finished dessert he brought the check. I completed my part of the transaction and probably the last straw for me was that he picked up the completed check with tip all signed before we even stood up to go. All in all we were not even there for 2 hours. As we left there were 6 open tables, 2 people at the bar and nobody waiting at 7:40pm on a Friday. We had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant for a private event and really enjoyed the experience. It was an easy walk from our hotel and all the staff were attentive. Dine at your own discretion, or stop by during non-peak hours. The fam ordered a hot n juicy half chicken w/ seasoned potatoes & steamed veggies, plus the ginormous shrimp & lobster rolls w/ sweet potato fries & clam chowder. We almost went back to order chicken take out before we left Monterey-- that's how great it was. The huge seafood roll sandwich was not as expected; it was served warm w/ cream based sauce. If you're into that, by all means, have at it! Sweet potato fry bowl was empty by the time we left, and clam chowder was good. The food is good and the view is beautiful. But lately the service hasn't been good. My husband and I used to live right up the street so we'd always eat there. But one day we went and they had us waiting so long and when the server finally came to our table she seemed annoyed and was not very friendly. We went a few times after that and the same thing happened. We gave the location a few more tries because it was our favorite but every time we went, multiple servers seemed not willing to help us out and always seemed bothered or annoyed to be at our table. This place gets pretty packed during peak lunch hours as you get a nice variety of seafood and salad dishes, a beautiful view of the beach, and a full bar selection! The food was good - totally recommend the cheese bread and lobster nachos for appetizers. They are both loaded and crispy, presented beautifully delicious. We also got the crab and bacon melt, which is enough to share between 2 people for a light lunch. It had a nice sweetness that was balanced out by the sourdough bread. We also got the margarita fish bowl, which was more than enough for 4 people. It was delicious and tart and a great way to start the day after coffee! Comparable to the Passion Tea Lemonade at Starbucks. I would get it again. For $28, it isn't bad and was totally worth more than ordering each cocktail individually if you are sharing between family! Of course, I do understand $28 is a bit on the pricey side for a fish bowl since it is on a tourist strip. What was a bit off to me was when we ordered a Giannis Bacon Burger and asked for it to be cut in half, but our server, Jacob, said that they aren't able to do that... this is the first I've ever heard of this at any establishment. Although he checked up on us a few times (once when the food came out, once at the middle and once to hand us the check), I felt he was too quick and insincere as he left to check on other tables as we were answering him, so we felt rushed. There was also an unmentioned $3 up charge that was uncalled for and unexplained which I didn't catch until leaving the place. That being said, the food was decent and I would dine here again to try all the other entrees (and to reorder the margarita fish bowl, cheese bread and lobster nachos, especially) if I were looking for a moderately expensive meal. We had a good time amongst ourselves and enjoyed the view. As far as service, I'm hoping it was just a one off for me because reading all these reviews prior to eating here, it mentions a friendly and attentive staff! read more

I should've known better that a restaurant like this would be an overpriced tourist trap. And I don't mind that, but the food at least has to be good. Unfortunately, it was not. The calamari we got was very rubbery, and when it came to the steaks, my party and I got them medium rare. What we ended up getting was gray (yes, gray as in the color gray) steaks, almost as if they had been boiled instead of seared properly. We were flabbergasted and sent them back to the kitchen. We honestly should have left, but we were tired and didn't want to look for another place to eat so we ended up getting burgers instead (which were also gray). To top things off, we were the only non-white people dining there, the staff was giving us dirty looks and pointing + whispering towards us when we (rightfully) sent our food back, which was just downright rude and unprofessional. Additionally, the restaurant was quite dirty and the decor didn't match the price point of the menu. The only decent thing was the drinks we ordered (don't get water from here unless you enjoy the taste of fishy tap water). Overall, I would not recommend this place unless you enjoy throwing away your hard earned money on food that I wouldn't even give to a stray dog on a street corner. read more

I visited here over the weekend with a group of friends. This was my first time. The prices were a bit high but the selection was good. I ordered a soda and the crab cakes and they came in fours. We all enjoyed our food. When the bill came, I saw that I was charged for a refill on my soda. I've never had that before at other restaurants! They do free refills. So I paid $10 for two sodas. They just irritated me to the core. We have a good tip, eventhough we did complain how the percentage of tips was extremely high even for Monterey. The waitress was very nice and came back several times to see if we were good. Nothing on her but I wish I wasn't charged for a damn refill and then charging me regular price was just ridiculous. Even though the view was great and the food was pricey but good, I won't be returning. Being cheated full price for a refill literally left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

The location and restaurant itself is great - we got a table right next to the window so we got a prime view of the ocean. We were told the wait would be about 45 minutes to an hour, which was fine since there's so much to do on Cannery Row. I got the text that our table was ready within half an hour. Service was good, nothing to complain about. My partner got the lobster and shrimp enchiladas, and those were really delicious and flavorful. I was a little underwhelmed with my dish as I ordered the seafood risotto with scallops. The risotto was seasoned really well, but tasted a little on the harder side. I hate sending food back so I didn't want to disturb the server since it was already really busy. The scallops were the star of the dish - absolutely delicious and seasoned amazing. What a treat! Everything about our meal was fantastic. The restaurant is lovely. Tables and clam shell booths all placed to maximize the views at this oceanfront dining room. We enjoyed slurping oysters with lemon, vinegar, and cocktail sauce to accompany them. My alder planked salmon was perfect and the asparagus was some of the best I've ever tasted. My husband devoured his clam linguini and I couldn't believe how many clam shells there were when he was finished. I had a spoonful of the broth and it was warm and delicious! Pleasantly surprised. We went to Del Monte but the Lalla Grill was closed due to a plumbing issue. They recommended that we come here and try out the nachos. We debated but decided to try it out. We were seated immediately and WHAT A VIEW from every single seat! The service was excellent. You can see that everyone was attentive. The nachos are AMAZING! Details: We enjoyed our meal and the overall experience was enjoyable, but it was hard to hear anything, including our waiter. The bathrooms were horrendous. 2/3 of the women's toilets were so dirty that another girl even waited until I left the stall I was in to use that one. The toilet paper wasn't tended to. The bathrooms don't offer seat covers, which seemed unusual for the area. The paper towels were completely out. Trash was all over the floor of the restrooms, everywhere. They don't appear to take good care of the restrooms, which usually implies overall cleanliness practices. But everything else seemed decent. I still rate them 4/5 at this time. read more
