We went to Lalos recently and were pleasantly surprised! We got there during their happy hour so the margaritas were slightly discounted. The service was good and the restaurant indoors had a cute scenery. Food: Chicken noodle soup: 7/10 great as a starter that came with dinner Burrito: 7/10 good size and was paired with sour cream and gauc on the side Strawberry marg: 8/10 I got their small/regular size and it was pretty large for me Fried ice cream: 6/10 it was massive even though we shared it. I probably wouldn't get it again but it was worth a try. My fiance got their Chicken Mole and he loved it! I'm sure we will come back for the chicken mole. I catered from Lalo's for my birthday party and loved everything that came with the Lalo's Fiesta Pack. The steak and chicken fajitas, rice, beans, tortillas, and potatoes were all amazing. Everything had a great flavor, well packaged, and hot upon arrival. The fiesta pack also came with chips and salsa, salad, marinated vegetables, cheese and sour cream. I am definitely a regular. The food is amazing. The staff is even better. Monday and Tuesday is half of margaritas. Wednesday and Thursday is half of sangria. The restaurant has an authentic Mexican feeling. The menu is huge with lots of choices. I can recommend items but you need to come in and enjoy the food. Upon our arrival as a customer with a large party, I was chastised by the manager mistaking me for a patron that had been undesirable. Saying terrible things in front of my guests about me. Stating I was in last year and I was not. Making rude comments about me and he had obviously had mistaken my identity, with accusations ! It was appalling. If I had not made the reservation for a large group and the friends had not all arrived, we would have gone elsewhere. Unfortunately myself and two other guests drove far. This is the kind of traditional Mexican restaurant that is rare to see nowadays. Everything today seems like Chipotle-style -- bowls, pick your own items, cauliflower/brussels spouts, fusion. The decor is bright, colorful, a bit dated. Some signage pointed to: Restrooms/ Telephones. As one reviewer noted, it is pretty quiet. We stopped in one weekend afternoon and a few of the booths had customers. The quiet was loudly broken by one garrulous customer but that was it. The chips were fresh and crisp and warm. The salsa was bright and fresh but not spicy. The menu did not have the typical taco combos. I ordered the house enchiladas with shrimp that came with a creamy jalapenos sauce. It was very tasty and rich, with lots of cheese and shrimp. My companion had nachos, which was a heaping generous portion (enough for 4). Our elderly companion was overwhelmed by the choices, intimidated by the menu and we asked our server if she could just have one taco. They accommodated us and it was just the perfect amount for her. The outdoor seating is covered, so that was nice that we could still dine outside on a dreary, debatably drizzly Friday night. My chicken burrito was satisfactory. It could've used more flavor in the chicken, beans, and/or cheese. It came with guac and sour cream, which I wasn't expecting. Both girlies ordered a cheeseburger (lol) off the kids' menu, and they enjoyed it with fries. Each entree came with a cup of chicken noodle soup, which was a nice touch. The fried ice cream was extremely underwhelming, and I regretted ordering it. I'm almost 50 years old and eat out a lot. This was the worst food I've ever had in my life. With the delivery fees, it was $45 and the only thing that was edible was the quesadilla that only took two bites to finish. It was so small. I ordered sour cream with it and didn't even use it it was so small. I ordered the cheese fundido dip. It's the main reason that I ordered from there because I wanted the Mexican queso. It was a rubber block that I couldn't even eat. I tried to re-melt it in the microwave and that didn't work either. It was the consistency of just melting a bag of shredded cheese.. so $45 later (with uber tip and uber fees) and I am still hungry. The worst. read more

So, we stopped here for a quick bite, and I was overall pleased. The service is amazing. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I love the decor they had inside. The complimentary tortilla chips are served warm, and the house salsa is fresh and delightful. I was happy to see skinny margarita on the menu, so I tried one with passion fruit flavor, and it was so good. For my meal I had carne asada taco which was super tasty. For dessert, we did order the Mexican fried ice cream. We've only ever tried that at one other restaurant, so I knew I had to get it. Some stuff to take note of 1. Kids are welcome 2. They dont split checks Now for the food. I ordered Lalo's Spicy Quesidilla. I love it. It has both steak and shrimp inside served woth sour cream and guacamole. I also ordered Flautas de Pollo. Its 4 pcs of flautas so i chose 2x chicken and 2x shredded beef. I honestly like the beef but the chicken was a bit bland. Feels like it wasnt seasoned and i didnt like the texture. Also got intrigued with their dessert. Ordered the mexican fried ice cream. It was ok. It has strawberry sauce that im not a fan off but still good. I would come back to try more things on the menu tho. read more

I'm a frequent guest to this Mexican restaurant. But today, I want to alert folks about one of their special meal offerings: the Friday brunch. They offer an all-one-can-eat brunch from 11:30-2:00 pm each Friday for an extremely reasonable price. The brunch menu offers different items weekly, with a lot of common items offered each week. An assortment of fruits, a salad offering, Spanish rice, fried fish, cheese quesadillas, chicken noodle soup, and dessert are always provided, supplemented with at least 6-10 additional Mexican dishes as well, such as eggs & chorizo, rosemary's potatoes, make your own meat/veggie burritos, just to name a few. The staff is amazing as well! From the kitchen crew, to the servers like Dee, Leo, and Juan, to the managers like Daniel, Miss Stephanie, and Jocelyn. Dee and Leo usually work the brunch and they are outstanding in every respect. The ambience of the restaurant is traditional Mexican/Spanish presence with traditional Mexican music playing in the background. The establishment is tight spaced and the food was a little bit salty. I loved the service as it was speedy service our food came out in record time. I would try the carne asada once you get there. Yep, solid 3 sounds about right. We ate outside on the hottest day yet and the service was just okay. Our server let us chat but forgot about us for long periods of time to the point where we ran out of water and we're forced to leave after paying the bill. The food was still slightly above average. What keeps me going back for more to Lalos is always always always those margaritas. They slowly creep up on you. One large one will do you in for the night. Went to lalos in Glenview. Saturday night. Screwed up our reservation. The food was awful. Both had enchiladas in mole. I am sure it was microwaved because our food was luke warm. Came here for the first time on a weeknight for a quick bite during covid. We sat outdoors and had a great time it was quite busy which is great to see people patronizing this restaurant. The full menu is still available which is great to see as well. The service is quick and friendly and no complaints. Parking is ample as it is in a strip mall and shares a huge parking lot. This is classic Tex-Mex food and it is very enjoyable. Portions are generous. I would definitely come back here as this is my first visit specifically to this location as I was normally a custom to only visiting the city locations decades ago. read more

We used to go for $5 margaritas back in the day. They were terrible but we were broke 21 year olds so it was fun. We almost never ate since the food is top tier mids. A convenient neighborhood spot with decent food. My teen surprised me by ordering the shrimp soup - it was packed with shrimp and a huge portion. The burrito, fajitas, and quesadillas were all ok, but not a lot of flavor overall. What did impress was the service. We have food allergies and the waitress was very accommodating and checked with the kitchen on each item. Where is the spice? I went into this thinking it would be a bit too spicy and looking at a flavorful meal. It had flavor, but not much spice. The atmosphere is good for a sit down Mexican restaurant. A bit festive, but the post-pandemic plexiglass dividers for the booths really detract from the appeal. The staff are very friendly and glad to accommodate my wife's questions about gluten-free items. The chips and salsa were brought to the table Immediately which is very appreciated, what threw me off was the chicken noodle soup that came out before the entree. I didn't see that as something on the menu and chicken noodle soup is just not something I'd expect. The soup was fine, but if I had a choice, I'd rather have some queso. My wife had enchiladas and she felt they were spot on. The portion was good and the flavor of the salsa verde was great. I had the steak tacos dinner and it was fine. Not great, but fine. We are long time customers of Lalos and dine here once or twice a month. I'm not sure why the reviews are so low, but the food is always consistently good and the service is always on point. We generally order a variety of the menu, and eat at the restaurant as well as being home. Steak tacos are always delish, beans are consistent and they have the best guacamole- we are a stickler for fresh avocado, not avocado smash. If you haven't been, they are worth a try and a spot in your rotation. Downfall, they are a little pricier than other local places, but we think they are worth it! read more

Update from my previews review given 6 months ago after getting food poisoning at Lalo's. On Valentine's Day evening I decided to give Lalo's another try. Upon my arrival one of the servers who knew me from giving them $20 tip one a less then $50 bill signaled to another who called the owner. Note that I was still at the front waiting for the hostess to seat me. The owner came out and in front of another customer and told me "sorry but you are not welcome here. I appreciate you wanting to eat here but we don't need your business. You cannot stay. I have to ask you to leave." Thankfully I was on the phone with a friend (an attorney) who had been there with me a couple of times. My response was "just because I complained one time?" And his response was "Yes, you complained and you even wrote a review". SOLUTION GIVEN WHEN I CALLED: He was rude on my call but ended up offering a free steak fajitas which I never went back to accept nor do I need any free food. Per my previous review given 6 months ago, you can tell that I myself had forgotten that I had complained for the first time. So to see that they held on to that grudge until today vs being like any successful business owner who wants to maintain, fix their mistakes and regain their customer's trust Lalo's failed terribly. He chose to "payback strategy" like a child. THANKFULLY to my SURPRISE: even Landmark Bar & Grille offers Mexican food made by Authentic Mexicans. For Mexican food the food is pretty bland. It came out warm not hot. Seems quality has gone down. Service was good though.

We have driven past Lalo's for years and we finally decided to give the restaurant a try today. With family visiting from NJ, we needed to find a place to eat that we could all agree on. We made the best decision to give Lalo's a try today. The restaurant was: warm, full of life, beautifully decorated and clean. The server at our table was very friendly and accommodating too. I order burritos explain twice how my staff wanted each order Yet everything was wrong we called them back the guy on the phone was nice and told us he will make new burritos upon arrival the manager decided he wanted to be extremely rude and condescend not only did he scream at one of my coworkers but refuse to admit the orders had been made wrong but also toss out cash once we asked for a refund We will NEVER AGAIN go back to this location ! Wow, other reviews for this place are so harsh I almost didn't eat here. We came for a Friday night dinner and our experience was good enough. The place is average, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the food is OK. Pros: 1) the dining room was clean and attractive 2) the service was reasonably attentive but slow 3) the free chips and salsa were replenished frequently and without hesitation 4) they give us free chicken noodle soup (bouillon with some pasta) upon asking 5) they accepted a discount coupon I had; it paid for the tip Cons: 1) prices were high 2) chips (Food Should Taste Good® Chips?) were almost certainly from a food distributor 3) portion size (proteins) was average at best 4) stingy amount of rice and beans 5) food taste was mediocre like it all comes pre-made from a restaurant supplier/food distributor and they just mix and reheat the stuff To be honest, I can make food as good as this at home. Nice atmosphere, good food, and great service! My only complaint is that they refused to give separate checks. We were a party of 10...do you know what a pain it is to take one bill and divvy it up amongst 10 people who all order different prices of food and drink! If you have computerized registers and receipt printers, you most definitely have the capability to do separate checks. Either your staff don't know how (train them!) or its simply an attitude problem (fix that!). read more
