The rich, savory consommé perfectly complemented the tender meat and took the whole experience to another level. I really wanted to like Taco Verde, but it was a letdown from start to finish. The food was bland and oddly greasy at the same time, with tacos that tasted more like reheated leftovers than anything fresh or authentic. The tortillas were soggy, the fillings were skimpy, and the salsa had zero kick or flavor. Service didn't help the situation--slow, disorganized, and uninterested. Even though the place wasn't busy, it took forever to get our order, and it still came out wrong. For the price, the portions and quality just don't make sense. I wish I didn't wait so long to try their food. I had been snoozing on it for some years despite good reviews from friends. There's a grocery store next door that I visit from time to time. Checked them out the other Sunday after church. Ordered chilaquiles with over easy eggs and a taco plate with different proteins. Rice and beans were extra and you should note their beans are whole black, not refried. Hence, their being certified Halal. The food is fresh, plentiful and bursting with flavor. Wish, wish I could have gotten the chilaquiles home sooner or just stopped somewhere to enjoy them hot. Green salsa had good flavor and the meal was seasoned well. Had asked for over easy eggs but turned out they made them hard. Bummer. I truly enjoy yolks mixed in. The tacos were good, two birria and one shrimp. During this cold season it's always grand to sip a birria consome. The shrimps contained within the taco were medium sized. I figure a two taco plate with rice and beans would be plenty of food. Terrible ... ordered steak burrito waited 20 minutes the told me would be another 20 min .... Ordered chicken instead didn't have time to wait on my lunch break .. waited another 10-15 minutes to get the burrito ... was stuffed with 90 percent rice ... beans out of a can ... not even refried ... chicken was 1/2 inch each pieces that was burnt and maybe 5 pieces inside ... no flavor , not grilled chicken ... I've been ordering take out for a quite a while now and their service and food have always been top notch. Their steak burritos are fire.

This was my first time trying Taco Verde after seeing a reel on Instagram promoting the restaurant. Although the space is small, it is well lit. We decided to take our food to go, though, due to the limited seating as we had a toddler with us. We waiting a while for our food, though no one else was in the restaurant. You can tell from the flavors of the food that it is made with love and care. I really enjoyed their queso birria tacos, which were packed with flavor. The birria consomé also tasted like it was made with a lot of love and was super delicious. Their rice and beans were fresh and tasty as well. They have a fantastic lunch special for 11.99 you get two tacos rice and beans and a cold drink of your choice from their fridge. It's like the perfect amount of food and it's delicious! Got the steak tacos (they serve with cilantro and onions) and the meat was not fatty, flavorful and tender. I recommend! They are very friendly too. read more

Appropriate that I write this review on National Burrito Day. On my first visit to Taco Verde, I ordered the Birria (beef not goat, and halal like everything else!). But while I was waiting I chatted with the super cool Nabil who was one of the partners there. While we talked I lamented that the one food I was disappointed that Chicago doesn't have a great option for was a Mission-style Californian burrito. Most are (not surprisingly) more of a Mexican style, heavy on lettuce but no rice and beans or the beans are refried. To which Nabil replied "I wish you told me sooner, because that's the style of our burritos!" Now, I certainly didn't regret that birria taco I got, because it was outstanding! But next time I was there, I was certain to get a burrito. And I was NOT dissappointed! Finally at long last, after 20 years here I have the sort of burrito I've dreamed of having here!!! And if you are a steak fan who doesn't hate corn, I think that their Stelote burrito is a damn perfect burrito. I don't live too close, but this is a burrito I go out of my way for. And when they showed up as available for delivery to me in Evanston on Grubhub I was thrilled. One and DONE! We were expecting so much more from this place. It's local and they press on the "street taco"'experience. Their food was mediocre at best. Burrito fell apart after a bite, 5 tacos wrapped up together. Little taste. Guacamole was oaky, but again mediocre. Sad we won't be back. It's a small takeout or come with a Friend, eat and run type place, the AC was not working and it had a very strong cleaning product smell like bleach , we pretty much walked in and walked out did not try the food . Very friendly staff at the counter. No tables inside only a counter with 8 stools so be prepared to take your food with you. Ordered the Surf & Turf Burrito on my first visit. My order appeared promptly and I was surprised to see the burrito cut in half and each half wrapped separately. It was very flavorful, the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the steak was very tender. Being out in the suburbs you sometimes have to drive a ways to get good Mexican food. The good thing with taco verde is that they are local, authentic and you get a HUGE bang for your buck.
