Love coming here to watch sports on their many TV's. It is bar/restaurant atmosphere where there are plenty of seats. Parking lot is large too in the strip mall. Customer service is lovely and they are on top of checking in on you. Chips and salsa comes right away to every table. Price is right with average dishes (large) to be around $20 including seafood or steak. Consumption portion: Drinks are all so good and strong. My favorite is margaritas. All made to order and on par. Food: Molcajete dish is a must. Every bite is so tasty. All the different meats marinated so well. The veggies cooked correctly so they are just soft enough. The food at Lalo's was absolutely amazing--fresh, authentic, and some of the best Mexican food I've had in Camarillo. Everything we ordered was flavorful, and the ceviche was excellent. The kitchen definitely deserves five stars. Unfortunately, our experience at the bar was disappointing. We sat at the bar, and the young bartender with the polka dot nails was very unwelcoming from the moment we sat down. She seemed warm and friendly with other customers, but toward us she came across as cold and uninterested. She never asked how our meal was, didn't check on us, and when we ordered the ceviche, she simply set the plates on the counter without saying a word or asking if we needed anything else. Her overall attitude felt dry and rude, which took away from an otherwise great dining experience. I can't say for certain why the interaction felt so different, but as white customers, we couldn't help but feel we were treated differently than some of the other guests she seemed much more engaged with. I hope this wasn't intentional, but it's worth mentioning because every customer should feel equally welcomed. I really wanted to love Lalo's because the food was honestly delicious, and the atmosphere was beautiful. The restaurant has a great vibe, and overall it was a nice place to celebrate. That said, the service left a lot to be desired. Our server wasn't as attentive as we expected, especially considering it wasn't overly busy. We also had an issue with one of our orders, and when we spoke with the manager, we were told they couldn't make the correction, which was disappointing. We were also celebrating two birthdays in our group. We informed the staff three separate times that there were two birthday guests, but they only acknowledged one of them. It wasn't a huge deal, but it made the experience feel less thoughtful. The food was definitely the highlight of the night, but between the service issues, the order problem, and the birthday mix-up, the overall experience didn't quite match the price or expectations. I'd still come back for the food, but I hope they improve the customer experience. Overall, I'd give it 3/5 stars. read more

I went to the Lalos on Thompson and ordered a California burrito to go and was SO disappointed!!! First of all it was $16 for a burrito, which is insane! The girl taking my order asked if I wanted everything and I said yes which is supposed to come with rice, beans, meat, cheese, cilantro, onion, fries, guac, sour cream, and salsa. My burrito had NO cilantro, onions, sour cream OR guac, barely any cheese, and maybe like 5 disgusting, stale, old fries that tasted like they had been sitting in old, gross oil. It was filled with mainly beans and rice. The tortilla was nearly burnt on the outside. The burrito was not good, and a waste of money I am so disappointed!! stopped by to give this place a chance, yesterday 7/3 around ~4pm and place was empty. i sat down and ordered one ceviche tostada. when i bit into it i realized that they're the type to put mayonnaise on their tostada. i do not like mayonnaise on my tostadas nor does it say that mayonnaise is spread on there in the menu. when i brought it to the servers attention she said "all of our ceviche has the mayonnaise" i asked her if i can have it without the mayonnaise spread on there and she took my plate and said "yeah... im still going to have to charge you for this one though... but let me go ask my manager" excuse me? i have worked as a server previously and never in my YEARS of working in the service industry would i ever speak to a guest like that and if someone needed modifications or didn't like something it was never an issue to have it redone or changed to their liking. We came in on a slow, weekday morning for a "work" breakfast. It had been a while since I had eaten there. The waitress was awesome and very attentive. Some chips and salsa to start was delicious. Wow! Normally, Lalos is great. Tonight, I ordered nachos with our dinner. The rellano combo and wet carnitas burrito were very good, as usual, but the nachos were aweful! A handful of chips with some kind of liquid cheese poured over the top, no beans, no jalapeños. It was disgusting, and, I paid $12 for this...really Lalos? I expected so much better. Update: I took the un eaten " nachos" back to restaurant the next day. They argued, said I ordered the wrong thing, and did not offer my money back. Im done with Lalos. We decided to give this location a try because it's in a better city and we believed the restaurant would be better. The service was poor, the location dirty, and the food, OMG!!! Disgusting. You can't go wrong with a fish taco but not only was it wrong, but 9 dollars. The shrimp coctel had rubber shrimp in it. Disgusting. I was on a business trip and had came to Lalos for lunch. The atmosphere was great, staff was very friendly and efficient, and the food tasted amazing! I left the restaurant without getting an itemized receipt and weeks later, when I called asking if they would be able to help me locate it, my initial server Maria, was very inclined to assist and troubleshoot, and then eventually escalated to her manager who reached out personally to reissue an itemized receipt for an expense report. I am very thankful for the staffs help on this, as I know searching through weeks of receipts at a busy restaurant can be a headache.The service and wet burrito are superb and I will absolutely be returning on my next trip to Ventura. I've been a Lalos customer more than 10 years and it's great to call in for Mexican fast food. You can expect exactly that. It is a few steps above Taco Bell, but serves the same purpose. What keeps me coming back is their excellent shrimp cocktail. pricey, but really good. The problem I have with Lalos is with their chips. They are ALWAYS stale or on the verge of. I had to write in today because the chips were inedible! Their Shrimp Burrito is delicious. They add an amazing creamy tartar-like sauce. Shrimp they used also had lots of fresh robust flavor. Their Chef knows what he's doing when cooking and put lots of love into his or her cooking.
