This place is consistently great. Mainly for the food more than the coffee. The coffee is standard, but the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I've never had a single egg sandwich here that didn't blow me away. The soy chorizo sandwich brought tears to my eyes with the combo of spicy and sharp chorizo, creamy havarti, and rich avocado. It has a vibe! Long line moved fast. Popular place. Everyone in our group liked their coffees. For me, it wasn't quite bold or strong enough, but I do like mine more robust than most. Food options were delicious! We had burritos and bagels and baked treats. They have good vegan and gluten-free options. You order at the counter and they bring the food/drinks to you. My friend and I were staying in the area for the weekend and we needed coffee desperately. Cue Lamplighter coffee. I think this is one of the most lively coffee shops I've ever seen. We stopped here twice, sort of. The first time was Thursday evening and the second time was an attempt on Sunday morning. There was a line on Sunday...out the door. We had to leave because it was taking too long but I really wished we had had the time. That Thursday we grabbed an Iced Thai Coffee for $3.50 each. Good size, great price, amazing taste! Highly recommend it if you want to try something different. There's seating inside and the décor is very cool, very coffee-shop-y (...that made sense in my head). Wow, been coming here for years now and finally getting to a review after visiting again. Great coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and lunch sandwiches as well. I've had the Brichta before and its so bomb, the soy chorizo/hummus combo pairs nicely with a heavy serving of Sriracha. This time around I went for lunch with a homie and we split two sandwiches: the 17 1/2 (turkey, swiss, carmelized onions and jerk aioli) and one of the Seasonal sandwiches that had Turkey pesto, havarti, and turkey. Both were great, but obviously very different flavors. The turkey on both hit the spot, and I'm hella sleepy right now attempting to get through this review. I LOVE good espresso. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and was in town staying at an AirBnB nearby. My host and a realtor both recommended Lamplighter for coffee. I ordered my standard Americano with oat milk, which I was glad they had, and had a cookie as none of the other breakfast options appealed to me. The coffee was good, but not great. If anything it was a little bitter and not terrible rich in flavor. You place your order at a window and wait for your name to be called. There are a few tables and seats in the area. If you don't go early on the weekend I would imagine you might not be able to sit down without a wait. It seems like a popular neighborhood spot, but I think you can find better coffee in the city. read more

I would not recommend this place at all. I stopped here to get their cold brew. First off their staff or at least the oder lady was not friendly. it's a coffee place but no bathroom, I was told to go to the Sherman Williams paint store. They charge if you want sweetener, like wtf. I ordered the 20oz cold brew no ice and it came out not filled. When I asked about the cup not bring filled was told cause I asked for no ice and that I actually was given more then I would if I got ice. Your menu says 20oz cold brew it doesn't say iced cold brew in a 20oz cup. You really sell a cup of ice with a splash of cold brew then on top of that charge for sweetener yeah no thanks. Also other coffee shops have better cold brew. I took it home added creamer and my own Splenda, I would never give this place my business. read more

Great little spot hidden in the middle of a neighborhood. Typical annoying parking situation...but worth the wait. I went for breakfast, noticed a long line waiting to order and thought to myself, okay.. must be good when people are willing to wait for it. We called the order in and then sat down at a table to eat..there were plenty of available tables so it just made sense. The food: we ordered a vegan grilled cheese.. it was yummy..and the best part was the vegan cheese didn't disappoint! Also ordered a tofu and cheese ciabatta sandwich.. also very good. I was in Richmond for a couple days for work and needed an early morning caffeine fix/quick bite to eat. Lamplighter was just what I needed. I have an obsession with matcha and was excited when I saw there was a matcha green tea latte. It was the perfect amount of matcha and steamed milk, and the latte art was on point. I also enjoyed the breakfast sandwich. It was quick, easy, and tasty. The ambiance of this Lamplighter location is industrial, but intimate. There are a couple tables with benches inside, and a nice sized patio outside.There isn't a ton of seating inside, but I didn't have an issue finding a seat. It was nice to eat at the bench by the window before heading to a meeting. read more

I love this little roastery! It's tucked off the main road in a little neighborhood corner lot and has that small-town local coffee shop feel. The front room/ordering area is a little small, so if it's busy, be prepared to pack in, but ordering can be quick and the staff is friendly and efficient. The coffee and specials menu hangs above the register and the food menus are printed and stored on the wall. There are a TON of food choices! I ordered a delicious egg, cheese and tomato on an everything bagel! The bagel was up to par for my NJ standards and there was a thick portion of egg and cheese... YUM! It also came with a side of watermelon wedge and two orange slices. It was the perfect breakfast. For coffee, I ordered my favorite... a cortado, and it was beautifully prepared with a leaf design. After eating, I wandered back instead to peruse bags of beans to bring back home with us. We also noticed a wall of mugs for sale when we walked in.. some were their traditional branded ones, but there was also a section of homemade pottery mugs... we asked about it and it turns out the owners mother makes them! We are suckers for beautiful pottery and bought a mug too. It's now one of our favorites for every day. Pro tip: when you buy a bag of beans, you also get a free coffee (a large one too!), so I was very well caffeinated that day :D The indoor seating area is small, but there is a bunch outside tucked around the side of the building. read more

I'm all about local coffee shops (support local businesses!) so when we were in Richmond, Lamplighter was first on our list. We were walking around Carytown and decided to go a bit further to check out Lamplighter Coffee Roasters. It was a Saturday morning, so it was fairly crowded. And because it was a nice day, the covered patio was also full. Nonetheless, we ordered and were able to grab a table indoors. I decided to go for the seasonal lavender latte. My fiancé went for an espresso, and he also bought a bag of the Ethiopia Guji Hambela beans. My latte was delicious. Not too sweet, with a lovely infusion of lavender. If I lived around here, this would be my go-to coffee shop. My Central Perk, as it were. It was a treat to visit and if I'm ever back in the area, I will be back at Lamplighter! read more

This is my favorite Lamplighter location, and although I don't live in Richmond anymore, I make a point to stop by Addison street to hit up Lamplighter everytime I'm in town to get the thai iced coffee. It is fast, since they pour already-chilled coffee straight into ice. And it's always delicious! I'll be honest and say I haven't had any other coffee drinks here because the thai iced coffee is so great. I have had the baked goods, however, and they are worth getting if you have a sweet tooth. I look around a lot when I'm in a new place or I'm by myself. Maybe many people do. But I like to see how I fit in where I am. Make sure I don't tackled by the "others". Have to be careful in coffee shops because many times they're quite filled with "others". In fact I'm also an other. I think that's why I go. So if there are plenty of good others and plenty of good coffee then I feel good and I like where I am. That's lamplighter. I felt straightaway home. The coffee is always brewed well, most likely the way it was brewed last time. I'm thinking that when o sip it. Hot. Layer full. And I'm ready to socialise with all the flavours I think of meandering my palate. You won't go wrong here. And it may be one of the best branding efforts I've seen for a coffee co. Interesting little coffee place. If you're a die-hard "try every coffee place" type, this will be on your list. Came here with some friends from a political group who had selected this as a meet-up location. It's pretty small, though it has a fair bit of outside seating and a small amount of inside seating. They have a variety of interesting coffee-related offerings, as well as some good non-coffee ones as well (like Mexicokes, very cool!) I must admit that I personally do not drink coffee, so I must rely on the opinions of my compatriots in this regard: they uniformly enjoyed their macchiatos, lattes, and coffees, and they are the type of people to live and breathe coffee, so that's high praise coming from them. I wasn't a huge fan of the area this was in; half of it was broken or in disrepair and the other half was under construction. Still, if you can find a place to park that isn't surrounded by cones or about to collapse into the gutter, it should still work for you. If you like unique coffee hangouts, drop on by. Overall: 3.5 stars ----- Pros: - Good coffee (apparently). - Wide selection of unique items (including Mexicokes!) - Decent pricing. - Service was polite. Have been meaning to try this place for a while, and I finally made it over for lunch. It's a very cool space with seating spread between outside picnic tables, tables in a covered outdoor room, and indoor tables. Decor is very simple and typical of a cozy coffee shop. While taking in the aroma of coffee, you place your order at the counter and pay, and then employees come out with your food calling your name. This location is the original store and the largest of three Richmond branches. It was fairly busy when I dined here around noon on Saturday. There is no formal waiter service, but the interactions I had with staff were excellent. As for food, I ordered an 8 oz. parfait, a Muna Module sandwich (came with one choice of side), and a cup of soup. The soup of the day was white bean and chicken chili, which came with a large handful of tortilla chips. While the soup had good flavor, it was not nearly hot enough for my liking and was just slightly warmer than room temperature. =\ My sandwich was basically a BLT with egg and avocado. It was a decent portion and not bad; I especially enjoyed the crunch of the bacon. I picked potato salad as my side, which was yellow (mustard?) and a bit tart, nothing special really. The yogurt parfait was decent, with plain yogurt that wasn't too sweet paired with strawberries, blueberries, and granola. Overall, the food was nothing spectacular, but I'm not a coffee drinker so I can't comment on what is clearly Lamplighter's specialty.
