This was one of the places that I enjoyed so much that, even though I knew I loved my experience here, I kept reading reviews and checking out yelp photos to relive the experience. We went on the Saturday that the Chinatown Chinese New Year parade was supposed to be held, but was cancelled, so many restaurants were overflowing with people. It seemed a little silly to brave the crowds that day - these restaurants are always available and we could go any weekend to try the restaurants, but it still seemed like a nice tradition to celebrate the occasion. After debating about various places, my mom finally suggested this place, as she read about it on Yelp. I saw it had 4.5 stars, which meant I HAD to try it! We were seated fairly quickly - less than 5 minutes - and then were quickly asked to order. I almost panicked, ordering the same dish as my mom - the beef flank and tendon look fun soup with won ton, but then, as my husband ordered, I noticed that the table next to me had the same dish with gravy, and I asked for that instead (didn't see it on the menu, so I'm super grateful that the family was sitting next to ours!). Then, after we ordered, we noticed the photos of the won ton side order and asked if we could have that instead of the won tons in our soup. The staff was very accommodating and said ok, after being clear they understood what we wanted. - Beef flank and tendon look fun - my mom had it in soup, and the soup was tasty, but I prefer it as a gravy dish - I like that the noodles don't keep cooking in the soup, and don't need extra salt (I usually add mustard/shoyu to chinese soup noodles). My look fun were super soft and melty, and addictingly tasty in the gravy. I was skeptical about the beef flank, thinking of the tasteless beef that's often in pho and which I douse in hoisin/sriracha sauces and contemplated asking for only tendon, but decided not to be that difficult customer. I was glad that I ordered normally - they melted in my mouth, and I was glad that I had the contrasts of the hearty and soft beef pieces and glutinous tendon to enjoy with the luxuriously soft look fun. I read other reviews about how large the portions were, but I easily ate the whole thing, then realized at the end of the day that it kept me full through the night (ok, I did have a few dim sum after lunch from a nearby spot!). My mom enjoyed her order too but took most of it home, explaining she thought that the portion was very large. The won ton side order was 12 pieces for $8.50. The way to order it was "won ton with soup, but without soup." The won tons were delicious, stuffed with shrimp, very flavorful, and a great order to share. After ordering and reviewing more reviews, it probably would've been more economical to do it as an addition to our noodle dishes. But our toddler enjoyed it too, and it came with some choy sum and a tasty light soy sauce, so I didn't mind - I'll probably just order it as an addition to my noodle order next time. My husband had the won ton look fun noodles in soup (says it came with 5 or 6 won tons) but he still seemed a little hungry at the end. Maybe he should've asked for extra noodles in the bowl! I will say that the menu was a bit confusing, and didn't really show all the options (like my look fun with gravy or won ton without soup!) but if you show them the pictures the staff will try to help accommodate your requests. I also love the spicy sauce - the black one that's probably made from chili and garlic. Lots of flavor, and goes so well with everything - the beef, look fun, and won tons! Good thing I could understand chinese. the waiter spoke in chinese and I could barely order our food with my pidgin chinese. HAHA, all of you would laugh if you heard me speak. The noodles are made fresh daily - owners of Lam's go to the restaurant at the crack of dawn, or more like the middle of the night to start making the rice noodles. Lam's Kitchen, located on the block across of Regal Bakery, is a small but spectacular place to get your fill of noodles! The place is quite small but is good for parties below 5 or so. My party got the duck look fun soup, wonton noodle soup, and cheung fun (long rice). The bowls were huge with the extra noodles added in. The duck noodles had the best broth, being super flavorful compared to the other one. Also, the look fun was super soft and tasty compared to the regular noodles in the wonton one. The duck was really tender and easy to eat. The wontons were made of shrimp which was delicious! The cheung fun, seasoned with sesame seeds, was very soft and chewy. That the perfect texture for good quality rice noodles. We don't get these kind quality anymore from most of the Chinese restaurant. The broth is on point. I've had issues before ordering congee and the meat in it was raw, this one was definitely not raw and VERY HOT. Awful rice that was very substantially over cooked. The beef we ordered was chewy and had a soapy taste. The sauce was the same in that idea. We asked them about the garlic chicken twice to Roy le check that it was what we wanted. They confirmed it was crispy fried with the food pictures also said a different story. I met my fiancé for lunch during our work breaks the other day and luckily for us, we were able to get a table fairly quickly despite bigger parties ahead of us who were waiting for bigger tables. The food is good, however, and seems to be the pick of the Chinese people (including my co-workers) so that is telling. Look fun (wide rice noodles) 2. Mein (thin wheat noodles) 3. Rice (white steamed rice of course) The styles: Both the look fun and the mein can be order soup style (in broth) or dry (either stir fried or cooked in soup but served dry, like a lo mein). Either can be topped with the stew, wontons, or both. Rice of course is served "dry". Of course, the menu is quite a bit larger than that. There is a list jook (rice porridge, or congee), rice plate with various mean/vegetable topping you can order. All dishes can be ordered with extra meat, vege, or starch. But if you are here, you want the beef stew and wontons. 2 cautions. 1. Everyone is super friendly but their customers are usually Chinese. You would rarely see non-Cantonese speaking customers. If you feel uncomfortable in those situations, bring a friend who speak the language so s/he can translate. 2. In Chinese culture, sharing table is common practice. We ordered look fun rolls, sliced pork noodle soup with wontons and a beef noodle stir fry. Everything was amazing, but what made it better was the young man in glasses who helped us figure out how to eat the look fun correctly (lots of peanut and soy sauce and sriracha). Even the patrons were nice to us and helped translate our order. The restaurant was packed with Chinese customers which, to me, is a sign the food is authentic.
