This place is one of my favorite Thai restaurants! The consistency is unbeatable. Not once have I visited this establishment and something was off (or not the same) with my order. During this dine in experience, I ordered the Thai tea (not pictured) but absolutely delicious, a prosecco with lychee syrup & lychee fruit on top (not pictured), the chicken wings as an appetizer, the Long Island duck as an entree & the minced spicy ground beef over rice and topped with an egg. This was my second time ordering the chicken wings and I am a fan! Now, they are not the best chicken wings by no means, but they are crispy, juicy, flavorful and surprisingly not messy. The dry seasoning is slightly coarse and similar to the taste of lemon pepper, but better. I am not a fan of lemon pepper wings, but whatever seasoning they have on the exterior resembles the taste slightly. I enjoy that the flavor (although its dry seasoning) does not just stop at the bite you take, but trickles over into the interior of the wing as well. Most times, I taste the flavor of a wing with the first few bites and it misses as your chewing (generally with sauced wings). With these, the flavor remains both after your first bite and while you are chewing. I think these are a great choice as an appetizer. The duck over rice is a personal FAVORITE! I used to come here and only order that with a Thai tea and have recently decided to try more of the food they offer as everything really does look delicious (pictures may not actually do this place justice). Duck is one of my favorite meats, if it's not yours, then maybe I would advise to steer clear, they have a plethora of options on their menu. Spicy minced ground beef over white rice and topped with a fried egg is also unbeatable. Simple, flavorful, spicy (maybe a little too spicy) and is also customizable. Rather than the minced beef, there's a choice for pork and also chicken. I think the flavor of the minced beef is quite phenomenal. My only quirk with this meal is the lack of veggies. I always forget that the duck comes with veggies that would pair perfectly with the minced beef entree. I am sure you can get it on the side, but I always forget until my food comes out and I see the steamed Chinese broccoli on the duck platter. I FINALLY got to try the mango sticky rice for the first time due to mangos now being in season (yayyyy)! I actually asked for more coconut cream sauce to drizzle over the dessert and they gave me extra no questions asked. I had been wanting to try the mango sticky rice for sooo long and although I was stuffed already from my meal, I found a way to make sure I DID NOT leave without trying it. It was good, would get it again, but do not think it is the best mango sticky rice out there! I enjoyed the hot & cold textures of the dessert and that even with the coconut cream sauce (and extra) it was not too sweet. Sweetness level is probably perfection. If I could I would rate this a 0. Me and a group of 6 family and friends went in to order in and some others out. For those who ordered out, they were told they could not eat in. Sure, if thats policy so be it, however the manager Paris rudely spoke and escorted some of my family members out, who were paying customers and then bothered them outside, saying they too could not eat outside, after they PAID for the food. As for the food, I've gone to countless of Thai restaurants. This was the worst, which makes matters worse. Not only was service poor but so was the food. The curry puffs had cheese, looked and taste like mozzarella, which ruined the taste and I ordered duck which was not fresh and cooked and brought out rather quick which was a huge concern. Thai is one of my favorites cuisines, and this is THE best Thai food I've ever eaten. While visiting NY, I found this gem in SoHo. A quick subway trip on the D dropped us off a couple blocks from the very small, quaint restaurant. The service was friendly and warm. The food was flavorful and tasted as good as it looked. The presentation was amazing, and the portion sizes were large, and the prices were beyond reasonable. My partner had the duck. I sampled it--out of this world delicious. Back again in Manhattan and I was ready to get some Thai food cause it has been a while. There was this one spot I had found from my pre-planning and it was right in the heart of Soho. While Lan Larb unfortunately does not offer a vegetarian version of its signature dish, they do have a sizable vegan menu with excellent other options. We started with the pak mor, as of late my favorite Thai snack and in my opinion the greatest incarnation of the cheong fun family, with a slight bit of crunch and sweetness from the peanut filling. This would have been a five star review except for the fact that we went in late- which caused them to rush us, and the staff waited for us to finish which we get and we had to order ASAP. We got the chicken larb salad, fried calamari, and I asked them what was the spiciest thing on their menu and if they could bring that to me- the beef larb. Would recommend their house Khao Soi Chiang Mai, the Prikking Moo Grob (crispy pork belly), and the Pad Prik Sod Moo (tender chicken), although honestly, I can't wait to come back and try all their dishes. Their specialty is Zha Jein, a northern Thai beef tartare that has 3 chili peppers next to it. And it is QUITE spicy, but sooo goood. They recently have 2 cocktails that are absolutely delicious. This place was recommended to me by a local, and he set my expectations high, saying it was "the best Thai" of his life. A group of 4 of us decided on coming after a long day of exploring the city, at around 7:30 PM and they gave us an estimated wait time of 15 to 20 minutes. The wait time was very accurate and we were seated within 20 minutes. Such a cute restaurant. They were very busy considering they were also doing online orders, but our food came out very quick. My friends got the green curry (8/10) which was very bright, the red curry (7/10), which lacked some flavor for me, and the eggplant basil (8/10), which had a delicious sauce on it. I got the Gaeng Hoh (6/10), which also lacked some flavor for me. I thought it was going to be spicier, and have a distinct flavor but it fell short for me. We also got the Mango Tango (6/10) which was a little too sweet for me but my friends enjoyed it, and the Ka-sa-long (8/10), which I thought was a perfect drink. Overall, a good first experience. My friends and I decided to hit up this spot after a shopping spree in SoHo on a pretty busy night. We had to wait a while for an open table, but we didn't mind because the ambiance was spectacular. With flowers and fake candles setting the mood, it felt like we had stepped into a Pinterest board. While the staff were friendly, the service was slower than a sloth on tranquilizers. We didn't even have basic utensils when our food arrived. Had to ask for them, and it took forever for them to make it to our table. There was also an error with one of our orders, and the process of getting it fixed was like watching paint dry. I was left seriously disappointed. I get that it was a busy night, but other busy restaurants manage to provide great service without acting like they're stuck in a time warp. I ordered the Larb Kua Chiangmai. Warning: it's really spicy. So spicy, in fact, that I couldn't finish my meal. Taste-wise, it wasn't my thing at all. It's probably authentic, but it just didn't hit the spot for me. On the bright side, the presentation was gorgeous--probably one of the prettiest meals I've ever been served. My friends seemed to enjoy their food, though. (Overall: D) - Despite a pleasant first experience, it seems like three new data points are all consistent in that Lan Larb Chiang Mai's quality is inconsistent and with noticeable flaws these days. The staff were quite kind and friendly, even through this quick takeout experience, but unfortunately the food was not good. (Som Tum: F) - This green papaya salad has all the ingredients for success but is lacking in flavor. It needs more of that beautiful palm syrup and fish sauce to power through and seasoned the unflavored papaya; the ingredients also need to be pounded more in the pestle to be more absorbing of such flavor. (Pad Woon Sen: D) - This is a vermicelli based noodle dish, which unfortunately was unevenly cooked as some of the vegetable were still raw and some of the meat was overcooked. The dish was also improperly seasoned as the noodles absorbed all the flavor and the large pieces of cabbage, broccoli, and carrot were notably bland. (Short Rib: D) - This short rib curry is one of their specialities, presenting itself as a large meaty piece of short rib, but unfortunately fell short with a cross-sectional piece and little meat attached instead. A we went inside the place, the first thing that caught my eye were the lanterns that were hung from the ceiling. They reminded me of the lanterns we saw in Chiang Mai, Thailand during our last trip. Might I have found a reasonable Thai restaurant in Lower Manhattan? Quite possibly. Located in Little Italy, this restaurant which I am not going to try and pronounce (for now), is cozy but fits the bill when it comes to portion size to price ratio. The Thai Iced Tea is decent and is worth saving for the main course. As I say for all things dairy to all things spicy, conserve your ammunition! The Tom Yum soup is tasty, but small and skimpy. It has lots of mushrooms but it only comes with four prawns of shrimp. You might be better off getting the chicken for a more satisfying soup. Or break the bank and get both proteins. The Pad Se Ew I got as a recommendation from my server. It was between that or my usual Drunken Noodle. The portion size is generous and the food has decent flavor (I had to keep reminding myself that this is not a spicy dish), but I nearly polished the whole thing. Points are knocked for the chicken, which I feel is tough and a little bit dry. I think they could also use some more tasty appetizers as well, but good thing I did not get these or my bill would have been through the roof.
