The tom yum soup was delicious. The spring rolls were fine. The main courses, though, were very delicious. We had drunken noodle and pad Thai chicken. Pad thai isn't the best ive had BUT Chomp Chomp makes up for it with the portion size. I do really enjoy their fried rice. Their choice of appetizers (2 veg/noodle spring rolls or chicken tom yum) are great additions to the lunch special. Another BIG PLUS is that they dont skimp on the protein even on the lunch portion!!! And the protein prices are the same for the offerings (veggie, tofu, chicken, beef, shrimp, pork & mock duck). We came here for lunch on a weekend and were seated immediately. The place is quite small so it can get full quickly. Tables are quite close to each other, it feels a little tighter than I would've liked. They have a lunch menu even on weekends! Includes a soup or spring rolls, we opted for the spring rolls and they were perfectly crispy. Flavor wise was okay, nothing too memorable. We tried the Tom yum noodles and the kra pow (seemed to be ground beef over rice with egg). I was craving something spicy so I was excited for the kra pow to give me a kick. It wasn't that spicy and I don't have a good spice tolerance at all. I did ask for medium so I'm not sure. But overall, the dish was quite good. The Tom yum was not quite what we were expecting, there was cha siu meat. But flavor wise it was pretty Tom yum flavor. Overall: it's a really cozy, affordable Thai spot but wasn't too amazed by what we ordered. Perhaps they have a signature dish they are known for? Wonderful, authentic mom and pop restaurant that beats out other restaurants in the Manhattan area both in food quality and price point. We originally went for Friday night dinner and came back for the lunch special as well. For dinner as 5, we got Curry Puff as an appetizer and 3 entrees: Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, and Khao Soi. The curry puff was really yummy and stood out as something new and all of the dishes were made hot and were equally outstanding. I really like the drunken noodles as they were spicy, the curry and fried noodles in the khao soi, and the savoriness of the pad Thai. Lunch special portions are generous and filling. I really enjoyed the tom yum soup that came with the lunch special, and the alternative, egg rolls, were fried hot for the order as well. Lastly, the interior and service of the restaurant is lovely. I ordered the drunken noodle with beef and it tasted quite flavorful! It's definitely a medium spicy so you've been warned. The lunch special also comes with a tom yum soup that was very flavorful. My also got the pork appetizer which had a sweet marinate with a sauce that paired nicely. They didn't take too long for the food. They don't serve any alcoholic drinks, but on the good side, they're BYOB. The Pad Thai and curry were about on par with those you'd get elsewhere. The basil fried rice was my favorite of the three entrees because of the extra heat. I was truly blown away by my meal at Chomp Chomp last night! Seeing the high ratings, I knew it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations. My friend and I ordered 3 entrees: a pad thai to share, Khao soi for myself and pad see ew for her. All three dishes were delicious, and a very generous portion for the price. I got the Khao soi medium spicy, but plan on trying it spicier the next time I come. Because of the generous portions, I had leftovers for lunch which I am VERY excited to dig into. I'm such a creature of habit it's disgusting. I get takeout from Terra Thai 2-3 times a week, but I walk by Chomp Chomp everyday and always see it packed. I always think about trying it instead of Terra Thai, but get scared at the last minute. I just find the opportunity cost of my Terra Thai spicy basil chicken plate (w/ extra chicken) so great. I know exactly what I'm getting, and if I order from somewhere else and don't like it, then I literally wasted a Terra Thai plate and that is just so tough to come to terms with. Honestly, it was fantastic and I had not one regret. The chicken was well seasoned with a healthy amount of spice that made me feel alive. I think I've found the best Thai food I've had in NYC. So unassuming which is why I was so surprised. The papaya salad was so refreshing with the perfect amount of crunch and fish sauce. The fried tofu was lightly golden crisp with the silkiest soften tofu on the inside. The moo yang which is like a grilled pork was such a tasty surprise. It had a nice sweetness and charred from the grill. For an appetizer, it was a huge portion. I just wanted to eat it with a bowl of rice. Their tom yum soup was just the right amount of sour that hits the back of your throat. So perfect for that cold evening dinner. All the entrees were delicious as well. We had so much leftovers.
