We stayed here for my best friend's wedding. First off, when I booked, I ended up having to book a second night. When I called to change my reservation, the girl was very rude on the phone, and claimed the wedding wasn't blocked off for Friday, just Saturday. So I would have to pay full price. When I told the bride, she said that was not the case. The groom ended up calling to change my booking. The couple called everyone who had booked from the wedding to make sure they got the negotiated price. Apparently I wasn't the only one they tried to make pay the non-wedding rate. When we were greeted by valet, they were very nice. But when I went to check in, they didn't have the king room I had reserved ready. They ended up giving me a wheelchair accessible room. The shower head didn't hit the right spot, and you couldn't move it, so the entire floor of the bathroom flooded when you turned it on. I requested some extra tissues, which never came. When we went to the restaurant, my boyfriend accidentally left his card. They locked it in a safe, which would normally not be a problem, but they said he couldn't get it until MONDAY, and he'd have to pick it up in person. We were scheduled to check out Sunday. This is not worth the high price we paid. read more

I didn't stay at the hotel itself so I can't really speak for that, but I did walk in with my boyfriend one Friday night while out on First Friday and had dinner at their restaurant. I liked it, it's pricey but what do you expect sitting down and eating at a Marriott? I got roasted chicken with green collards and potatoes and it was DELICIOUS! After staying at The Lancaster Hotel just down the street, this hotel was an even more pleasant surprise given its Central location and nearby attractions. For an older hotel, it was very welcoming and offered a lot of amenities within the hotel. It is attached to a parking deck that costs $15 per day, or $19 if you ask the Hotel for validation (Best option if you want to come & go as you please). Overall, I was very impressed with the appearance and amenities of the hotel, but after spending the night, I am not sure I will return. The room was updated and very modern with a lot to offer. However, the sleep quality is what really changed the stay for me. The air conditioning and heat is a common shaft (not individual room units), so for our stay, the heat was the only option. The room would not cool down and it was extremely uncomfortable. On top of this, the pillows were very soft, making it very difficult for a good nights sleep. If the hotel upgrades the room to have individual room units and extra pillows with various firmness, then this would be the perfect hotel in the area. Until those upgrades are made, seek elsewhere for a good quality nights sleep. read more

Overall I am satisfied with my time at the Lancaster Marriot. Check in was a breeze and they were accommodating as I was in Lancaster earlier than normal checkin time. Since I'm an Elite member I had parking perks available for my stay as well. Room service was quick when I ordered food. Finally claimed they had it figured out. Billed my card but emailed my receipt to my colleagues instead of me, even though they confirmed the emaIl. Did not get credit for the stay in their rewards program. Tried to call and get receipt and credit several days later. Told to go through website. Did that and got a shitty response from India based customer service: "For your stay to be eligible for credit it must be booked in the name that appears on your Marriott Bonvoy account, you must personally check-in and occupy the room, and the hotel must be paid directly for the stay upon check-out. Stays in other names, even those of family members or friends, are not eligible for credit to your Marriott Bonvoy account" Maybe I tried to do something that seemed simple to me, but is way more complicated in reality. Or maybe my expectations are too high... but I feel like there are too many customer service focused options to put up with hassles like this. First world problems... read more

Let's start with the good. The staff get's an "A". They were all friendly and helpful, both at the front desk and in the restaurant. They even made up for a little snafu we had. Very nice. The hotel is very clean and attractive. The lobby is great and the bar is a happening place. The convention facilities are good too. Now to the bad and the reason for the two stars. The location is not convenient. You have to pay $$$$ just to park in the garage, no free or discounted parking for guests. Lastly, the beds are very uncomfortable and the sleep comes at a bare minimum. The rooms are very nice, but there is something not right with this place. I was there with 3 business associates and it was all the same: no sleep. The first night we were kept up from 1:00am with loud sounds that could have been snow blowers or a large vacuum. I was on the 16th floor, so not sure what it was. We were also told by several guests that the building is very old and haunted. While I'm not a believer of this, all 3 of us had nightmares and slept terribly. Again, attractive place with a great staff. I would never stay here again. Trying to speak from stage on 2 hours sleep does not make for an elegant speaker. read more

Our second visit to the Penn Station Grill restaurant inside the Marriott and a much more formal dining experience then the first. I wish I could rate on the food alone but unfortunately I have to take the big picture into consideration. Here's the pros and cons based on our experience on a Friday evening in Feb 2015. PROS: dinner was delicious, steak was cooked properly and was generously sized and presentation was lovely. Had a coupon courtesy of Lancaster Newspaper for 50% off our one meal. Atmosphere was romantic and décor was beautiful - this would be the ideal place to bring someone you are trying to impress. CONS: Without the coupon we would have never been able to dine here, even with the coupon a meal for 2 + 1 dessert and no drinks was half our grocery budget for the week (for a family of 3!) Meals are in the $28-$30 price range, although I did see some sandwiches for $14 The place is cold, most diners ourselves included ate with our coats on. Service was misleading and unorganized. If you come thru from the hotel as we did there is no hostess and it's kinda a free for all. We flagged down a scurried employee for directions on where to sit and if we should seat ourselves. It's the opposite if you come thru the King Str entrance where we saw several people waiting awkwardly in a congested walk thru area just to be seated while the hostess ran around. She didn't seem very efficient in her methods. Our waitress however was wonderful. Overall we are glad we came but probably won't dine there again unless it's a special occasion and I have a coupon. read more

This is a great hotel, but you pay for it. After parking and everything was paid for our bill was $190. It was perfect though for us. I was traveling with my mother and she went to the quilting convention being held downstairs while I watched the NCAA tournament on the nice HD tv in the room. If you are in the downtown for business or a convention this is the place to stay. If on the other hand you are visiting the wider Lancaster area I would suggest looking elsewhere. The hotel has a spectacular lobby and an attractive bar-restaurant. The food and service is above average. The rooms are smartly furnished although the bathrooms are diminutive. The beds are comfortable, the pillows great. The hotel's staff is most friendly and attentive. On the negative side: registering can be long & painful when there are several conventions going on.; waits for the too few elevators can be eternal; parking is expensive; no free internet. read more

I thought this was a high-end hotel, but was disappointed in my stay. I was there for the PA bar exam, which surely brought the hotel a significant amount of money, and which the hotel knew about for several months. However, the staff seemed overwhelmed and unprepared. Requests I made prior to the stay were guaranteed, but not fulfilled. The lobby was beautiful, I appreciated the attached parking garage (although you still have to pay daily), and the Plough restaurant was wonderful. However, those were the only positives. A few things that I consider to be basic were lacking. - NO FREE WIFI in the room. I paid the higher price for premium wifi that could stream videos, yet the videos wouldn't stream. They buffered and then said the connection was too weak. - There was no fan in the bathroom, so it got extremely steamy while showering, and there was no air circulation/ventilation. - There wasn't a microwave in the room, so I couldn't heat up any food. - No room service - I requested foam pillows, and they didn't have any. The mattress and pillows were very uncomfortable and left me with neck and back pain. - The pool was closed for renovations, yet this was not mentioned when I booked the room and was not posted on the website. - The walls were apparently thin and - likely due to the door adjoining another room - the noise from other guests was very loud. - I was told upon booking that I could have a Keurig/pod coffee maker in my room, but the front desk said they did not have any that worked. I will say that every staff member I interacted with was very professional and courteous despite appearing stressed/overwhelmed. But the staples that were lacking made the stay uncomfortable. Taking the bar exam was already a stressful experience, and these little things made it worse. I paid nearly double what I could have paid for a hotel 10 minutes away, expecting a more convenient and comfortable experience, but I regret that decision. read more

We had a late flight in and arrived after 1 am. The valet was unavailable. The front desk staff didn't ask if we preferred a king bed or two beds. I assumed we would get a king bed, but we walked into the room to find two doubles (not even queens). The real problem is the horrible construction noise. Beautiful hotel. Parking is a fortune, $30/day for valet, $18 if you do it yourself. That was a bad starting point...we checked in, got to the room and there was someone's food in the fridge. There was a rooftop band across the street that you could hear in the room, the played until 11. I went to the gym, they were out of small towels and sanitizer. Again, nice looking hotel. Nice room. Internet was $13 a day (way too much). The bed was very comfy. There were too many small failures. Location was convenient to lots of things, but for the price, I'll find somewhere else to stay if I go back. read more

What a perfect location right in center of the historic town of Lancaster in Penn Square. Bellman named Curtis was the first to give us attentive, friendly service. Next was the front desk manager, Ken and his staff. They went out of their way to welcome us and the housekeepers very very attentive and service oriented. The room is very clean and comfortable with many updates to bedding, flat screen TV etc. we can hear beautiful church bells ring on the hour. I was attending a multi-day work function at the hotel. This place was huge for being in the middle of downtown Lancaster. I took a walk around the building and found the convention center and the historical site under the building (this could have been brighter so I could read the historical info). The staff was so nice and helpful. The food was great as well. This was the first time in a long time that I actually slept through the night in a hotel bed (minus the fact a previous guest setting the nightstand alarm clock for midnight!). It was easy to get to, has an attached parking garage (self parking and valet), and close to many downtown attractions and resultants. read more

Recently stayed overnight here on business. It was one of the nicer places I've stayed. Comfy bed, nicely appointed room. Very nice conference spaces, although I had to do some hiking to get to the restrooms. My group got a very good rate. Catering service for our meetings was good, although the sandwiches we were served were a bit strange (chicken sandwiches with guacamole and bacon and some kind of russian dressing? hmm...) Front desk service was very good. At first they said that my room was not ready, but then they looked into it and found me a clean room right away. My only hitches: 1) there is no free parking, although I did get a partially discounted rate for my meeting. Otherwise, I would have paid $15 to park overnight. 2) When I tried to check out over the phone from my room, the phone just rang and rang. I discovered that I could use a menu function on the TV set to check-out, so I did that and it worked very well. read more

I would not recommend this hotel, when we got to our room it was amazing until we started to look around, there were sticky spots on the walls, there was no microwave, there was no locks on the bathroom door, no fan in the bathroom, there were cobwebs on the lights, and at night we went to the vending machines and there was a poopy diaper in the corner! There was a lot of construction going on so we had trouble getting to the hotel, we had to call and get help, you have to pay for your parking because they do t have there own, they offered nothing, no continental breakfast, way to match money for what you get!($80 room for $300) read more

This is the BEST place to stay in Lancaster!! The parking garage is easily accessible and provides a covered bridge to the hotel. The staff is truly exceptional. Everyone was prompt, professional and courteous. Our corner suite offered breathtaking views of the city with huge floor to ceiling glass windows. The room was spotless with great amenities. We loved that Central Market was only a short walk across the street for the following morning as well. read more

Oh, where to start. This restaurant makes me sad beyond words. It has such potential. I liked the decor and our server was very nice. The food was bad. And when I say bad, I mean rotting. As in fuzzy and brown. Two bowls of strawberries that were rotten. Lemons that were rotten. This wasn't the buffet but rather breakfast ordered off the menu. The waiter seemed embarrassed to have to bring us the food. They didn't charge us for it but there was attempt by a manager to apologize. And that probably wasn't his fault either. We saw (who we thought to be the manager) clearing dishes and carry a busboy's tray. The worst part of the experience was the bathroom. I've been to this location a few times over the last year for events and the bathroom is terrifying. No paper products & water and sludge on the floor. I have spent the past few days searching for the right words in reviewing Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square. I am the mother of one of the men who got married in Lancaster this weekend. The whole experience of my son and his new bride has filled me with such joy that nothing will compare to it! When I think about this past weekend, I remember their smiles and my heart is filled with love! In saying that, Lancaster Marriott can not and should not be left off the hook for their lack of professionalism, the fact that they were completely unprepared for their guests and their disregard for simple things like handing out gift bags and information cards to the guests. After being told for months that there was a "really good chance" that our guests would be able to check in early for the wedding, we were told on Thursday (the day before the wedding) that would not be possible because they had 6 weddings that weekend. This is where I start to lose a little faith in the Marriott. My son replied, "I hope you add staff for our return because we have a lot of guests staying there." That did not happen! It is simply impossible to understand that having six weddings at your location did not give management the incentive to take care of their guests properly. Isn't that just good business? Don't you want your guests to feel that your establishment is capable of handling any situation because you are so well-prepared? If you knew a large group of people were unable to check into their rooms prior to the wedding, wouldn't you at least try to accommodate that large group of people six and a half hours later by adding additional staff? I am embarrassed for the way some of your staff spoke to our guests who were paying to stay in your hotel ... it defies any good business practice AND manners. While there is absolutely no excuse for bad manners, there is also no excuse for the management team to leave their workers scrambling to help large crowds. The reality of management is that if you contacted every single one of your staff and they were unavailable, it is up to one of you to step up the plate and help. It might not be the truth one likes on a hot Friday night, but that doesn't change the fact that it's still a truth. Since Friday night, my mind comes back to the same thought, "where is the management's respect for the front desk workers in leaving them so understaffed?" "Where is their concern for their paying guests?" At what point does the reality kick in that treating your customers poorly will help eliminate the concerns of six weddings being booked at the same time at your hotel? Around 11:00 Friday night, I told one of the workers to give me the gift bags and I would hand them out. He gratefully handed them over. We provided information cards for the guests. These cards were from the bride and groom thanking their guests and inviting them to a Brunch the next morning. This is a fairly standard procedure at weddings these days ... some of them were put into the guest bags ... which is great ... except that the gift bags weren't being given to the guests! My brother mentioned that not all the guests were receiving their information cards and he was told that they will give them out "tomorrow morning." They were going to give them out on Saturday ... brunch was at 9:00 Saturday morning ... I don't know how Marriott thought this was going to work. We should be told that the staff will not be able to help with this task. The housekeeping staff was exceptional. The servers at our Brunch were kind, courteous and attentive. Glenn, the valet, was phenomenal! Wanda, at the front desk, was amazing. Betsy, a member of the sales team, was able to help get me answers after waiting 4 days for a return call. The hotel is beautiful ... right in the middle of a wonderful town. The renovations you are doing will make it even more beautiful. But we all know it's not about the building ... it's about the people who fill it. The positives far outweigh the negatives. I hope you continue to build on them. I don't want any other guests to walk away from your hotel feeling the way some of ours did. I'm pretty sure having six weddings at your hotel is a situation you'd like to continue having. Was there for Zenkaikon weekend. Those who helped were friendly and helpful during such s large event, they have a pull out couch which was also very helpful and actually comfortable. On the 8th floor we had a nice view, my room was very clean, and even though they were under construction it was easy to get around. My husband is a Marriott elite member, as he travels all the time. We enjoy Marriotts and this place was no different. We stayed here one night and they were able to accommodate our early check in, even though they were fully booked. The man at the front desk was awesome! He gave us a room on the 17th floor, and free parking. He was a really nice guy and super helpful. 5 stars for his customer service!! We got up to the room and both beds were stained. One had a big red stain on it, the other bad black stripes. Called down to the front desk and asked for either a change of sheets, or if they could transfer us. They changed the sheets within 2 hours and the sheets were clean this time! The cleaning lady was very nice and even gave us extra pillows for the inconvenience. She was kind. The other negative was that and the fact the elevators can be slow going up so high, but otherwise an okay place to stay. Staff makes up for the lack of a clean room. read more

Pleasantly surprised by the existence of a full service Marriott in the heart of Lancaster. Contrary to a couple of other reviews, parking charges are normal for this class of hotel in a downtown location, so no surprise there. The rooms were typical Marriott; clean, well-appointed, quiet and spacious. The lobby of this hotel is amazing and completely unexpected. But what really makes this hotel is the staff. Everyone I encountered was courteous and friendly. If you are planning a stay in or around Lancaster and do not mind driving into downtown, you should most definitely consider this Marriott. read more

We made reservations for 3 king rooms. On check in it was confirmed that we had three king rooms. When we got to the rooms one was a pair of double beds. We. Called the front desk and was told they were a kid out of king beds and we asked why they lacked integrity and told us they were sending us to king rooms. The ceilings had water stains, furniture was scratched and sofa was soiled. Do yourself. favor and wait until Marriott remodels this hotel. The there are better options in Lancaster. read more

Overall, incredibly disappointed with my experience with the Lancaster Marriott from almost beginning to end. My wife and I decided to obtain a room block from this hotel for our wedding on 8/12/17. The Marriott seemed like the perfect place given its location and beauty. However, everything began to go downhill once Jennifer was assigned to us. We signed the contract (after much waiting) and she went MIA. We called and emailed several times and barely heard from her to confirm any simple information we requested. This included reserving our own rooms for our wedding night (we were requesting a Junior Suite in advance). We understand hotels are busy but for almost $200 a night per guest (and that's the discounted rate) we expected someone to actually care about our business. Once everything was in place we expected it to run smoothly. However, this was just the beginning. On the day of the wedding, I was unable to check into the Junior Suite to get ready with the groomsmen. I was informed that I would be called once it opened up but was never called. I had to keep coming back and keep checking with them. When I came back, they said, oh yes it's ready. If it was ready why wouldn't you call? I repeat, all this happened on my wedding day. They additionally informed me that they didn't have record of us paying for the rooms which we had ran through Jennifer months and month before (and who took forever to do mind you, so I clearly remember consistently wondering why it took her so long to charge our debit card, so trust me when I say, I know it was charged). This led to them charging me DOUBLE for the room and then apologizing later on when they realized we had already paid. Gonna remind you once again, this all happened on the day of the wedding when I should have been relaxing and preparing for the big day. They were unable to take off the charge until the bank processed the refund, which left me with over 600 dollars missing from my account that I had planned on using for tips/excursions while in Cancun for my honeymoon. I also noticed a large amount of welcome bags leftover (which makes no sense considering everyone that was assigned a welcome bag came to the wedding). If we would have known the welcome bags would be such a hard concept for the hotel, we would have passed them out at the rehearsal dinner as my wife and the bridesmaids spent an entire day making them. The only reason the Marriott deserves one star is for Josh, who was assigned to us later in the year and who was personable, professional, accommodating, responsive and the best. Love, Love, LOVE this hotel! Staff is very polite, hotel is so awesome and what a unique Marriott! During the holiday's, it's decorated so pretty; inside and out! My family and I come here during the Xmas season and always stay here. Hotel rooms are very large and clean, priced right for any occasion. The pool is located on the 5th floor, and is very large, indoor with an awesome Jacuzzi (which is currently being re-tiled). Very secure as well. There is also a full-service Spa, bar and restaurant to cater to all your needs. Highly recommended! read more

This hotel is hosting the PHFA Conference as we speak. Either they have never hosted a group of over 600, or they bit off way more than they could chew. The lunch was very good, but there was not a soul to bring coffee! The afternoon dessert buffet was a disaster. Who sets up cake in a corner without plating it??? The lines were ridiculous. Then we had to evacuate the building mid-session. Talk about confusing!! You represent Marriott, people. You are failing big time. read more

The Lancaster Marriott had very friendly staff. They were able to suggest various locations in and around the city to visit and dine. The hotel was very clean, beds and pillows were comfortable; included an iron, blow dryer, and shampoo/soaps/lotion. WIfi was free on weekends as well. Although we didn't spend much time in the room, it was nice to have free wifi in dead cell reception spots. Colin was professional and courteous during the check in process, and also suggested places to visit. The only reason why I can't give the hotel a 5 star rating was due to the making over 5 calls between the hours of 11pm and 1:30am for our next door "neighbors" being extremely noisy. Out of the 5 calls, only 2 of them were answered by a front desk associate. I am not sure security was ever notified, because the noise/yelling did not stop. As we checked out, we expressed our thoughts with Blayne, and he ensured us he would speak to the night shift staff and discuss our concerns. Our experience with the Marriott in Penn Square was a disaster from start to finish. From the contract and initial booking a block of rooms, to the assistance with those rooms and our guests before arrival, to our guests experience at the Marriott - it was a miserable experience that almost ruined our wedding. Blocking of the rooms - the Marriott was misleading and gave false information about the capacity of the hotel that weekend, and we were forced into a hard hotel block that could not possibly have worked for our needs. When we brought this information to the hotel's attention, they were completely unhelpful and unwilling to help. On top of that, some guests were told that they could book rooms Thurs-Mon but not Fri-Mon which doesn't make any sense, and I also had a number of guests who requested connecting rooms for their children who had to call multiple times to get confirmation that the rooms would actually be connecting - and then when they checked in were told those rooms were not available and not guaranteed. Upon arrival that weekend, some guests did not receive the welcome bags upon check in that we meticulously put together and that had all of the information for the wedding weekend schedule. As far as the guests stay, I heard complaints of noise and non-smoking rooms stinking of smoke. There was apparently a conference at the hotel that weekend that the hotel was not equipped for - people had to wait 20 mins for the elevator and were late to events. And guests who called for directions were told the wrong directions to the parking garage. Stay at the Lancaster Arts Hotel instead. read more
