On 2/10/2016 Anir changed the oil in my Rav 4, this was in preparation for a trip to Oregon. On 2/15 2016 my engine seized in Oregon on my return home. I had it towed to a Toyota dealership. On 2/16/2016 they contacted me after diagnosing the problem. A tool used to drain the oil was left in the vehicle causing only minimal if any oil getting to the engine. Pictures and a report are available. The email report from the dealer is below. The oil change resulted in severe damage to the engine. The current estimate is 7600.50 and there may be more damage. I contacted the owners on 2/16/16 and asked for insurance and last names, they refused I asked again on 2/17/16, they refused. I have also emailed them, no contact has been made to me. Anir and Chris Murry at the Oil shop have refused any information including last name of Anir or insurance information. They were emailed pictures and the description of the damage by the dealer on 2/17/2016. Thus far they have not contacted me and have not offered any payment for the damage they caused. Below is the info provided by the dealer:
Here are the photos taken by our technician upon disassembly. I have also included the repair cost estimate for replacement of the engine short block assembly. There is a chance that there may be further damage to the cylinder head. We would send the cylinder head to our machine shop for cleaning and inspection before reassembly. The photos show a plastic piece in the images of the oil filter removed from the vehicle and also show the damage to the engine bearings as well as the crank shaft. The plastic part shown in the photos is a tool used for draining the filter that is to be removed and discarded after draining the filter. You can see in the images that the plastic piece is distorted from being tightened with the filter since it had not been removed. With the plastic piece not removed, as it should have been, it was causing low oil flow to the engine bearings which resulted in the bearing and crank shaft damage shown.
I have cc'd Chris at Lancaster's oil change shop in this email with attachments.
