Unfortunately their food wasn't good at all. We ordered three different dishes and were disappointed with all of them. It all tasted like canned food items. The meatballs on the sampler were raw, we informed the server and he took it to the cook who said it was fine and is supposed to look like that. I love Vaso's Mediterranean Bistro. It's nice to find a great restaurant in this section of King Street. It's small, but warm and welcoming, with a great patio. Service can be a little slow, but is always good, even when I came with a big group, which included children. The Greek salad is fresh and delicious. Lamb kapama was fall-of-the-bone tender. I'm obsessed with the flaming cheese. Greek sampler is the perfect starter and the first entree I ever had here, the shrimp with artichoke pasta, remains one of my favorites. I love the Greek wine selection. I stopped in around Christmas to get a gift card and they had kourabeides, which I had to get and they were the best I've had in a long time. Not too dry but with the perfect crumble and very flavorful. The restroom is upstairs, so if you have accessibility needs, this may not be the right spot, which is too bad. The name itself suggests perhaps to only stop by for a glass of water. The food was a letdown. The eggplant parm was soggy and lacked flavor, while the gyro was dry and bland. The prices were way too high for such underwhelming dishes--$22+ for a salad. The margarita was Soylent green or would turn you into Elphaba - tasted like a cheap mix. The ambiance didn't help either. The first floor was uncomfortably hot, and the place didn't seem to have a clear identity. It felt like it was still figuring itself out. Not a place I'd return to anytime soon. Hopefully, they'll improve in the future! read more

This review is long overdue but here goes. In July 2025 i stayed in old Towne as a treat for myself for my birthday. Kinda like a staycation. I met up with some friends and wanted to do happy hour near where I was staying for the next few days. Came across this place and saw they had good ratings on Yelp so decided to give them a try. We were a tad early before the actual HH started but our nice waitress was right on time and let us order a few minutes early. There were many delicious items to chose from on the HH menu. I ended up ordering the Greek Pita Pizza which was delicious and i actually finished the whole thing. They have other options like Wings, Spanikotirpita, tzatziki or hummus with pita and greek feta fries. The house wines are $7 on the HH menu and beer was $5. I ended up ordering a drink that wasnt on the HH menu which was the Santorini Sunset. It had rum, coconut rum, peach nectar, grenadine and was garnished with an orange an cherry. It was delicious. This place used to be so good to eat and it tasted authentic. Either the chef has gone downhill or they changed the chef. Today, I ordered a $30.00 trout with green beans. It was lunchtime, a little early at 11.15am, however, I had had an early start to the day, had achieved much and a reward was in order. At first I was , it appeared the only customer and was served so quickly, the food took a reasonable amount of time to prepare and I was happy indeed. Suddenly, a large group of at least 12 walked in, then three more couples! Without missing a beat an obviously experienced Waitress/Manager, had the situation well under control, with no sense of urgency, rush, and at all times was calm, cool and kind. Reservation: not needed, on Friday night, we were 1 of only 2 tables occupied. 2. Service: clueless kid who couldn't answer anything we asked 3. Food: edible and that's it - escargot: served in mushroom.. - lamb dish tasted good but served with some store bought pasta is underwhelming 4. My partner asked to find gyro for dinner, so we spotted this place on our leisurely stroll and stopped inside. The location is fantastic with a big window in the front for people-watching as well as an outdoor seating area. We arrived around 4 PM on a Saturday and seemed to be the first diners for the evening hours. Staff were quick, courteous, and quiet. Attentive and ensured we had The food was okay. Not awful but lacking personality and overall too bland for my preference. We ordered the gyro platter and appetizer platter. The quality/construction of the gyro meat was okay but somewhat dry. The gyro platter was served barely warm-- we wonder if this impacted the meat. The appetizer platter was anticlimactic at its best. It came with two small keftedes, two individual spanakotiropita triangles, a serving of small pita triangles, 3-4 oz of hummus and "zesty feta dip" (which appeared to be a blend of feta + yogurt + herbs), three dolmas, and a couple small blocks of feta/hunks of tomatoes/cucumbers/green bell peppers, unpitted kalamata olives, pepperoncini, and slivers of anchovy. Aside from the grape leaves (standard but good) and spanakotiropita (not too cheesy, very crisp, packed with filling), everything else felt rather cheaply sourced like I pulled it from a grocery chain's salad bar. Perfectly edible but despite their firm texture tasted underdeveloped. Even the cured items reminded me of a Papa John's pizza. It was my first time trying meatballs cooked with this technique where the exterior was crispy like a candy shell while the interior was soft and airy. I would say that if you are dining with someone that has a limited palette or doesnt't stray far from American cuisine but wants to branch out, try this place! A great neighborhood restaurant that serves some Greek, some Italian but always delicious food. The service is impeccable and the staff is always, always friendly. The dining room itself is relatively small. They probably have about 12-15 tables inside. The nice weather, you could sit out front, or in this very big tent that they have on the side of the restaurant. Selecting the right place to celebrate a new high school graduate Vaso's Mediterranean Bistro was suggested. We thought it was the greek kitchen with the same name at first but found this one more appropriate. The food was really good according to everyone at the table. My eggplant parmesan was smothered in tasty marinara and I could have ate another portion but was satisfied. They didn't come by and offer fresh ground pepper or shredded cheese. My experience is less about the food but a warning about the stairs. They are small and very worn. Please be careful - my wife fell down and injured herself, including small fractures in her shoulder. The safety of them needs to be addressed. Staff provided ice for her shoulder, but didn't follow up afterwards and I was surprised they didn't offer a discount or even send a desert, even though we were celebrating a birthday. My cousins and I had a nice meal at Vaso's, and I would recommend the place to visitors or locals. The Greek sampler was excellent and included anchovy-wrapped olives (surprisingly good!) and classics like spanakopita. One cousin got the chicken parmigiana and the other got a very garlicky seafood pasta dish. Both gave a thumbs up to their meals. We had a couple hiccups: not getting a cup of soup that we ordered until we reminded the server's helper about it, and getting a teaspoon to eat the soup with until we asked for a soup spoon. I also wish that we could have had a warmer table. We got blasted with cold anytime folks went in or out the front door. But those are minor complaints. My husband and parents took me here for my birthday, as I've been wanting to try it every time I pass by old town. The indoor seating is very cozy and narrow. There is also some outdoor seating, which would be nice with good weather. It is right along King Street so may come with some noise. We sat indoors which was nice for a hot summer day, but ended up getting louder than I expected with the smaller space. The staff is amazing! It looks like they were short-staffed but our waitress put on a smile and accommodated us as best she could. We ordered a Greek sampler along with a bottle of wine to share among us four. THe wine recommendation was delicious! We also ordered a gyro salad, scampi marinara, and branzini. Everything was very good, although probably a little saltier than what I would have liked in the scampi marinara. All in all no complaints though - delicious food and would def come back here again. I was in Old Alexandria for business. I wanted to grab a quick bite and enjoy the weather prior to boarding the train back home. I am so glad that I stopped here! I immediately knew this place was the real deal. It is a family restaurant. Mediterranean food is my favorite and Vaso's did not disappoint me.
