Had our unit going in less than an hour, didn't try to sell us extras to inflate the bill, and made several suggestions to help maintain our HVAC's longevity! We purchased our home about 3 years ago and were advised during the home inspection that our A/C unit was relatively new, so we never considered getting a tune up. However, after a couple hot So Cal summers, we didn't want to find ourselves stuck with a broken A/C unit in the middle of a heat wave, so I searched Yelp for a reputable local A/C company. I settled on Lane's and set up an appointment. They weren't the cheapest quote but I firmly believe that you get what you pay for and they had a long list of satisfied customers on Yelp. We received excellent customer service from Giovanny. We learned that Mr. Lane is a college professor who teaches and trains students about the principles of A/C systems, and Giovanny was a former student. We were pleasantly surprised by his genuine enthusiasm for A/C systems, and he went the extra mile to explain all of the diagnostic tests and share the findings. We discovered that our coolant level was low, so he quoted us a fair price to refill the coolant. Everything else on the unit was in good working order. Almost immediately, we noticed that the A/C system was running quieter and pushing out cooler air. John Lane & his assistant came to my home and knew exactly what the problem was with my air conditioning. He and his assistant got it fixed with a new fan motor. John was very knowledgeable and in addition took the time to explain how "Run Schedule" worked which I never knew. Since I didn't want this feature, he programmed my thermostat so that I could just set it at the temp I wanted and then turn it off when I wasn't using it. Much easier. Because my unit blew a fuse sometimes and I had to reset the breaker, John installed a part that would help prevent that. I appreciate it but it cost much more than I thought. Also most places will apply the diagnostic fee to the service if you let them do the work. This place charges a fee to diagnose the problem in addition to fixing it. Have a TEMPSTAR AC unit that was "repaired" by another heating/ac company, worked briefly, stopped, and was told by the company that the unit was done and I could spend $25,000 for a new unit that they would be happy to install. As we have a second unit that cools the upstairs, there was no rush to install a new unit, so I searched YELP and found all the rave reviews for Lane's Air Conditioning and Heating. John Lane, owner and academician at Mt. Sac, came out, inspected the unit, made some corrections, and returned to repair the unit, which is now working perfectly. Spent about $2000, which is the same amount I had given the first company, who said the unit was done and that I should purchase a new one. In summary, can't praise John and his wife, Patricia,who is his administrative assistant, enough! Don't care where you live in the San Gabriel Valley, if you have heating and/or AC issues, only use Lane's. Not only will you be ecstatic, you will be educated by an academician! read more

The man is incompetent and dishonest. He came out to fix my air conditioner. Identified the problem as a blocked drain line. to fix the blockage, he disconnected the drain line and spilled water all over the mother board with realizing it. After fixing, he fired it up and the mother board shorted and caught fire right in front of his and my wife's eyes. He said it was a bad mother board and said it would be $1,200 to fix. Let me start by saying I never leave reviews on Yelp. But we had such a great experience with Lane's Air Conditioning, that I just had to leave a review. I have a gravity furnace in my home that had stopped working. Years ago I had it serviced by someone but they were now retired. I researched online and found a company (West Coast Chief Repair) that had a whole page talking about how they were experienced with gravity furnaces. They sent out their expert who only scratched his head and said that he did not know how to fix it, that it was too old and that it needed to be replaced. He also said we could call to reschedule and appointment for them to send their expert. "Wait, I thought you were the expert. I asked them to send the expert", I said. What a waste of time. I called a second company who was a little more familiar with the system but they recommended doing a retrofit which would have cost $900 or I could replace the whole system for $13,000. They would not touch the system and they could only guess as to what was wrong with it. I even called the Gamble House trying to find someone who was knowledgeable and experienced on working with gravity furnaces but they could not recommend anyone. I called Sylvia Vega, a real estate agent who lives in my neighborhood. She recommended Lane's A/C and Heating. I called Lane's and the owners wife answered the phone. I told her my bad experience so far and also that we had been without heat for over a week. She reassured me and told me that John had been in the business over 40 years and that he continues to teach classes to students wanting to learn how to become heating and A/C technicians at Mount Sac College for over 20 years. She told me that if John could not fix it, no one would be able to. She was absolutely right! John, and his apprentice/student Giovani, came on time, were professionals and thorough. I watched as John explained and taught Giovani the different parts of the gravity furnace. They lubricated one of the parts and fixed my gravity furnace. Unfortunately it only worked one day and they needed to come out again but they were quick to come out. They discovered on the second visit that the thermocouple needed to be replaced. They fixed my gravity furnace again and the cost was very reasonable. It is apparent that not too many technicians are familiar with older heating systems. John is a true gem. He really cares about doing the best work and leaving his customers happy. I was impressed with how patient he was while teaching Giovani. I think it is great that John wants to teach a new generation how to fix these older heating systems. John will be the only person I ever call in the future for air conditioning and heating needs. John is the owner and the guy I've worked with consistently since I moved into my house about 3 years ago. He is prompt, responsible, and above all honest. My system is a 5 ton split system that is about 10 years old and I have had to service yearly for one reason or another. He always gives me a break on a recharge and turned around a fan motor change out in 24 hours. Most times he squeezes me in on the same day I call since I can't stand to be without my AC.
