It was decent, but it's basically just a bar, not a pizza place.. The pizza comes from the place next door. I assume it's the same owner. Soda comes by the can at $4 each (no fountain like a normal restaurant). If you order water to go with your pizza (even if you are buying other drinks) they tell you to get it yourself out of a room temp water jug across the restaurant... It was fine, but I don't like going to what seems like a full service restaurant, to be told to serve myself. read more

This place, located on the shoulder of the Hamakua Marsh in Kailua has a lot going for it. The first thing I like about stopping here is that It has a fun atmosphere and a good energy. (Lanikai Brewing can be a bit noisy as it is a, "go to" place on the windward side. Every time we have been there, it has been on the busy side, but you can still carry on a conversation as the place has an open seating arraignment and the way the walls are designed opens up the space to the outdoors to allow sound to balance out and cool breezes in). Secondly, they have a good selection of adult beverages which includes a large variety of pints that features selections of flavorful local-brewed beers and ciders. Finally, the style of pizza they serve here (thin-ish wood fired brick-oven crust with both "normal" and unique toppings) makes for a wise choice for wetting one's whistle and getting a tasty bite to eat. Oh, and a forth positive is that our servers here have almost always been pleasant. *The only time that we kinda thought that there was room for improvement with hospitality occurred on our first visit to the place. We came in towards the end of the evening (but not that close to closing time) and, as it turns out, we just didn't vibe with our waitress. Something was off that day, as later, when she worked our table on a follow-up visit, we really hit it off and there was the normal positive energy and friendly banter that normally exists between host and guest. I can see why they put arugula on top, because there is barely any cheese, sauce or crust. $17 for one of the weakest pizzas I've had on island. If you love the local flavor Lihing Mui, the Lihing Mango Sour is the perfect drink for you. We paired this with a couple wood fired pizzas, that were a little burnt but were delicious. The honey glaze on our pizzas compliments the pesto. I loved that the pizza didn't make me feel too heavy. Next time I could pass on the cinna braid, I expected it to be more of a dessert but it's obviously a pupu for a reason. The service was so great! We got there at about noon and our waitress was the only one serving at this time. It eventually got busier but it didn't stop her from being so attentive to us. Handily the best brewery on Oahu! Innovative ales, many made with fruit. But they aren't at all sweet, fruity beers. The fruit just adds some complexity. The bartender was attentive, beautiful, and a great conversationalist. We talked about Hawaii, Colorado, and the west in general. Only bummer about this brewery is its lack of samplers. This is the first brewery I've every been to...anywhere...where you can't get a taste of a beer for free. Not sure if it's a Hawaii state law or what. Brewery probably lost $40 or more by no offering taste. I am not a hops person but my husband loves it. He probably would have had at least 2 or 3 beers plus merchandise as we collect from all over the country. But I did not want to pay $3.75 for a 4 oz pour of something I might not like. All I get is dismissive snobby (Malibu girl) attitude here. Maybe that's the intended Vibe. Since Lanikai is a swanky beach town next to Kailua. The servers tell you to order with your phone. Bring you a beer or food. Then shove a credit card reader with 22/ 25 -and 30% default for tipping charge. I Wish everyone in this place would come off their high horses. And it's really not a nice area or place to go. It's like an industrial area. So why 15$ glass of (a pour line glass on a 12 ounce beer. It's beer. Not a Napa Cabernert. Like I said. We spontaneously decided to come here on a Saturday afternoon. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We opted to sit indoors. The layout is really cool, and I love that they have big tables and lots of seating for large groups! We had our two babies with us, but it must be a hotspot for families since there were LOTS of babies there that day. We were told to sit wherever, found a nice big table and our order was taken right away. They have a wide selection of beer and even cocktails. I stuck with one small beer, but my husband had a couple. The food was also delicious and well priced. Very cool and casual ambiance. It was a great place to take the kids and spend a couple hours. Spacious and plenty of seating in the afternoon. My favorite beer was the yuzu sour. It's got a decent yuzu flavor and the most unique beer that we had at this brewery. We loved it so much that we took some 32oz crowlers home. The 64oz growler comes with their own custom growler but it's much pricier. It appears that currently there are two "places" for this company on yelp. Maybe one is the actual brewery and the other is the tasting room only. Either way, people have pics of the tasting room for both. Idk which one is right. Regardless, this review is for the tasting room. There are plenty of games to play and they also have a swing hanging from the ceiling. That doesn't seem like the best idea with alcohol involved, but whatever. There was also a food truck outside, which totally blocks your view when trying to leave the parking lot. Basically rolled the dice there when pulling onto the street. We brought over some food from a local restaurant and dined with some beer flights. Four of their beers are included and you can pick whichever ones you want. Service sucked to the point we won't come back. We come here throughout the year but don't have plans to go back after today. We ordered a pizza for our little kids when we were first seated then ordered the rest of our food about 20 min later. 45 minutes go by and tables that arrived after us are getting food before the pizza we ordered for our kids. Finally we get up and go over to ask our main server to check on the food saying we ordered 45 min ago, and are met with a snarky answer about time stamps. Another 10 min and we get all of the rest of the food before the one kid's pizza we ordered. We ask 2 more times about the kids' pizza and have to hunt down severs to do so. Our main server never checks in and avoids us the whole time. I literally watch her walk to all the other tables but our own. At this point all of us adults have been done with our food and we still don't have the kids' pizza with no updates as to when it will be out. Thankfully we have awesome kids who were more patient than the grown ups about the whole situation. It wasn't until my dad goes to tell them to close us out bc we'd just go get food somewhere else that the kids' pizza comes out. While they did take the pizza and two drinks off the bill (after asking) they never really apologized, all the servers pulled together at the bar over it as if we were causing a problem, and very loudly talked about it after the fact. Hey mistakes happen, orders don't always make it in, etc. and but how things are handled is what I really care about. IMO the situation was handled horribly. When we arrived to the brewery, we were excited to try new beer and have a good time and had picked up food on the way not knowing if we could bring outside food since there is no phone number to contact them and ask... The host didn't even say hi or welcome us and immediately told us there was no outside food allowed period. We asked if we could sit outside and still be served and even buy a pizza from the food truck next door that apparently are their food partner? She still was very rude and stern and told us it wasn't possible. Lanikai Brewery is one my favorites on island - always good beer, great staff, and amazing pizza! Specifically regarding Tuesday Night Trivia: - Limited seating / Come early (+45mins) - approx 12 tables avail, and lots of folks come early to save seats... I've missed out a few times due to not enough available space. Can't hear if you're sitting outside. - Sound system is sub par - in the multiple trivia nights I've been able to partake, our tables had issues hearing whatever was being said throughout... every time. - Service can be curt - understandable as it's a busy night and most attendees are regulars, but it's not a very pleasant experience for those first timers / out-of-towners if you need a few minutes to peruse the beer list and ask questions - Quality of trivia questions/answers (topics excluded) - I've noticed a increasing trend lately with improperly researched questions, typos, etc. resulting at times in multiple answers choices being correct, all choices correct, or none (and closest is accepted)... If this was intentional, announced as part of the rules, and replicated on a consistent basis, I'd reluctantly accept... but with no consistency and only 4 multiple choice answers for most Qs, it can have a major impact in results and detracts from the game's enjoyment. Overall - I'll be refraining from attending future trivia nights until the experience can be refined. read more

The brews are all great. I'm a big sour fan and the pineapple sour was the best I've ever had on island and one of the best I've had period. The other drinks are great too. It's a great spot to hang and drink or to get a growler and hang at home. The food is limited to pizza but it was very good and came out after about 10 minutes. They seemed to be a lot busier than usual and maybe the busiest since covid so it took some time to get orders in but understable with covid. Its my go to drink spot in kailua.
