After consuming my weight in Mai Tai cocktails, I wandered into Maui Brewing in search of an excellent IPA and a lite lunch. Maui Brewing definitely earned this 5-star review. Do not get put off by having to climb the "never-ending" flight of stairs to access the brew pub; there is an elevator. There is a large bar area, an outside patio, and an adjacent dining/drinking area next to the Outrigger Hotel. Side bar: There seems to be a gazillion Outrigger Hotels on or near the strip. They do have an impressive craft beer menu, some guest taps, and a full complement of high-octane spirits. I was initially disappointed that their Big Swell IPA was tapped out. My second choice, the Overboard IPA, was a great 2nd choice. This is a typical IPA with a dry finish. During lunch, I ordered the Bikini Blonde. This is an all-day lite but refreshing beer with a crisp finish. I ordered the seared ahi salad for lunch. This exceeded my expectations. The generous portion of ahi was seared perfectly. The ahi was accompanied by an egg, avocado, radish, Okinawan sweet potato, furikake goat cheese, and drizzled with Bikini Blonde-cilantro vinaigrette. Deliciouso! There are big screen TVs available if you wish to catch a game. Service was excellent at the bar, and the bartenders knew their beer and provided great guidance. Went for happy hour and got the hunter pizza. The busser kept dropping off the wrong items so we got hooked up with the warm tortilla chips & trio of dips by accident which was cool. I really liked the kukui sausage queso dip. But then he also dropped off a pepperoni pizza that wasn't ours. Our server got switched half way through our time there. The pizza was good I love the ranch dip. I asked for more chips and they charged us for chips and pico which I thought was weird. The birds were everywhere it was a lot. Stopped by Maui Brewing Company for drinks on this trip. We've been here a few times over our last four trips, and it's always been a solid spot. One of our favorite visits was during the Spam Jam Festival--they had spam baos that were so good paired with their beers. We've also tried their pizza before, which is always a good choice. This time, we just came for one round of drinks. I wanted to try the Pineapple Mana Wheat, but it was already sold out by the time we got there around 6PM (we had just come from the Waikiki Makers Market). I ended up getting something similar--a Pineapple Chi Chi, which was refreshing and hit the spot. My husband got the Big Swell IPA, which he enjoyed. They have a good selection of food, and the view is nice. The space is big with plenty of seating, so they can accommodate a lot of people without feeling too crowded. It's also very family-friendly--pretty much all ages--so it's a great spot if you're with kids but still want somewhere chill to hang out. Had a reservation and we were seated pretty quickly. We were given a booth, so we didn't get to enjoy the nice patio, or tables close to the open doors. There is a LOT of bar seating, including chairs completely behind poles. OK...on to the food, drink, and service. Other than waiting 5 minutes for ketchup and mustard, service was very good. Food: My wife got a burger. It was ok, correctly cooked, and the sauce was good, but leave the tomato behind. I got the fish sandwich. Beer batter cooked. Pretty good, and liked the sauce as well. I got the Garlic Truffle Fries. They were weird. All the topping were under the fries, and they were mostly warm, but not hot at all. Drink: My wife got a glass of the prosecco, which was a fairly dry one. I got a margarita...I don't recommend it. $22, and they use soda, so that may work for many, but I find it an unnecessary distraction. Music is very loud. I got the fish and chips which were pretty good. Nicely fried in one of their beers and they added flakes of salt! Wow that is my favorite thing I am learning. On pizza crust, now fried fish. Mmmmm. There's a rooftop deck and an outdoor area where you'll find lots of tables, bar seating, and TVs throughout. You'll even see some birds flying through the restaurant trying to take whatever leftovers they can find. They offer a vast amount of beers as well as cocktails. For food they offer shareables, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, and other Hawaiian fare. I ordered the beer flight which included my choice of four beers. Of the ones I got the mango stickee rice and the hi life were decent. I also ordered the imperial coconut porter ($9.75) which was good. They also have happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-5pm and late night happy hour Sunday through Thursday from 9-10:30pm which includes $2 off all beers, $3 off select cocktails, 50% off select appetizers, and $12 pizzas. Had a great experience at Maui Brewing! I honestly didn't have the highest expectations but I was pleasantly surprised. There could be a long wait time, however they do have a pretty big bar area that is open seating. For two we were able to get lucky at the bar. The beers and food that we ordered were great! Honestly the food and service was really good but there were just a few things that took in down from a 4 star. We ordered appetizers (the hummus and nachos), but they came after the main course already came. Also be sure armed there are pigeons everywhere, they do their bets to try and get them away but they fly in the restaurant and hang out until sprayed away. I would suggest a table inside. It is more like a sports bar the a pub atmosphere. Drinks were amazing. The nachos tastes good but the chips were soggy when we got them so we had to eat the nachos with a fork. Also the bbq chicken pizza had Ana amazing crust but was served with pesto and pickles onions. I personally would have preferred raw red onion and bbq sauce. I came to this Maui Brewing for a happy hour // kickoff networking event for the conference I was in town for. The local club had reserved a large portion of the outside patio for us - which was nice for the sheer number of attendees. Rooftop + patio = amazing views. Pizza had been pre-ordered and continued to come out fairly regularly as soon as a few were eaten. That was much appreciated and I'm a big fan of thin crust pizza with good undercarriage (#Barstool). There were a variety of pizzas ordered which made it enjoyable to have a few different slices. The best was their supreme-style and simple cheese. The pizza with jalapeños was super spicy. Because it's a craft brewery ofc I'm going to get a flight. I didn't have a menu in front of me so I went off our server's reco's- Pineapple Mana, Mango Sticky, OMG & Lime Lager. These are pretty hefty sample pours! We get them on the mainland but there's nothing like a fresh draft straight from the keg. My fave was the Pineapple Mana, with the Lime Lager coming in a close second. Unfortunately the service was fairly bad, in observation and experience. The restaurant had ONE dedicated server to our large group, whereas 2 or 3 would have been better. There were a couple of drink / food runners, but the server couldn't keep up - I saw him constantly getting pulled in all directions. I swung through here on my last day in town and met a couple of coworkers. I had one of the better fried fish sandwiches that I've had in a long time, and the beer was certainly quality too. I would have loved to see more pilsner-style beers available, but I get the sense that the excitement for flavored beers is in right now. Reviewing the menu, it has changed and not really for the better. I was hoping to have the Poke bowls I had in the past, but they have been removed from the menu to provide more bar and quick items. The nachos were ok and paid extra for meat. Overall it was ok, the size of nachos compared to the amount of guacamole and sour cream was disappointing (small ice cream scoop). This is my second visit here with similar results. The ambiance is typical for a Waikiki restaurant; busy and chatty. Pretty big place but recommend you take the elevator up instead of the stairs. The food wasn't bad. I got the cheeseburger and fries. The burger was a bit small for the 20$ price tag. Fries were an extra charge. They were out of many things and they had a notice at the front in regard. The service was awful though. The server was extremely slow and felt like we were forgot about. We got food but no napkins or silverware. Took a while to get it...and refills. He was nice when around but that was scarce. I would not return here.
