The Lantana Spa, appended to the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort, was one of the high points of my stay: 100 percent serenity. True relaxation. I scheduled an appointment with Patricia to have my eyebrows waxed, and not only did she do an exemplary job, cleaning up my troublesome arches, she gave me the rundown on the various restaurants and activities the resort had to offer. When guests purchase any treatment at the Lantana, they also get a day pass to use the facilities. I enjoyed a soothing dip in the whirlpool and calming sessions in the steam and inhalation rooms, taking time to enjoy a glass of chilled lemon-cucumber spa water in between. The robes were nice and fluffy, and the shower area clean and stocked with everything you need (facial cleanser, mouth wash, deodorant, etc.). Spa staff were cheerful and gracious. An awesome experience, all around. The Lantana spa caters to people 18 and older, and thank god for that; the resort (the main hotel) itself was infested with parents with very small children; the noise and commotion were simply not to be believed. Living right across from a preschool and elementary school, my idea of fun isn't listening to the shrieks of young 'uns while on my vacation -- I get enough of that at home. My only regret is that my better half and I didn't purchase day passes to the spa for the duration of our stay (the spa also has a private pool). read more

First, I will say that I had a great time and the service/staff members were amazing. The JW Lantana Spa is a great day getaway. If you are a local and are not staying at the hotel you are still more then welcome to go. There is a $30 day-pass fee and of course if you want to purchase a massage then you can choose from a verity of massage types. Just make sure that you call ahead if you would like to set up an appointment. I would recommend this spa to anyone and it would be money well spent. read more

I just got done with the most amazing massage and facial! I would highly recommend it to anyone that comes here to ask for Chris for your massage. It's a girl and she was amazing!!! She knew about how the different muscles interacted and exactly what pressure points to press. I did an 80 min aromatherapy massage followed by a 50 min rejuvenating/brightening facial. Everything was amazing!!! First rate experience. Natalie helped me schedule our massages and went out of her way to call me back as soon as a spot became available. It was a pleasure to deal with her! Sean was amazing and helped us get a reservation on a very busy night at 18 Oaks restaurant, where I had the best steak I've ever tasted (Get the Wagyu 8oz filet, it's a slice of heaven) and had the best waiter I think I've ever had anywhere, named Rick. When you go to a place like this you want it to be an experience, you want it to be special like the people you interact with are as happy to be there as you are and Natalie, Sean and especially Rick made it exactly so! It really could not have been a better experience from the time we parked the car to the time we left and a good portion of that was do to the employees we encountered! So disappointing! My husband and I booked a couples' treatment last Friday to celebrate our anniversary. Our therapists led us into the treatment room and after we undressed asked if we were comfortable. We both said it was too cold. They explained the table warmers weren't working. Through the treatment, they added warmed blankets, extra blankets. We continuously reported we were cold. Neither of us enjoyed the treatment or were able to relax because we were uncomfortable, which is especially disappointing since we spent $500. Also the treatment was supposed to include a scalp massage and a body wrap. My husband didn't receive the scalp massage and neither of us received the wrap. I attempted to contact the spa manager but have not been able to reach her and she hasn't returned my phone calls. read more

I recently stayed at JW Marriott and wanted to try the spa and I'm so glad I did. I had a facial and it was wonderful! Crissie gave me the facial and with that comes a head, neck and arm massage. I had the custom purified facial. It also comes with a heated hand treatment which is really nice. She recommended a few different products for me and I ended up buying one and got a couple of samples of the other two. They have a pool and jacuzzi and other amenities that reviewers have mentioned. Come early to enjoy these and you are encouraged to stay afterwards for as long as you wish. The prices are high but is to be expected with this type of resort spa but worth the splurge. The worst customer service ever. Had appointments for my sister's birthday celebration. I arrived 3 minutes late to my appointment and was denied my appointment. I was treated like scum. My appointment was denied and was told that they had no appointments for the day and that I was still going to be charged for the service. They totally ruined the experience and was not able to join my sisters for the birthday celebration. They have 'mighty gods' attitudes and treat you like you are nothing. I have been to much better spas and had not ever been treated like this. 3 minutes late, come-on...! We are supposed to be there to relax and not to get upset and more stressed. Lantana Spa is simply amazing! A few friends and I were celebrating a baby shower and we all felt like this was the most amazing idea. We had lunch at the Replenish Spa Bistro and then went in for our treatments. I had a facial and it was amazing. We were all able to enjoy all of the amenities...steam rooms, saunas, whirlpools and inhalation rooms. The inhalation room is fabulous and so relaxing! Highly recommend taking advantage of all they have to offer. The staff was so gracious and accommodating. Don't just go for your treatment; go for a day at the spa. Yes, it may be a little pricey but if you stay to enjoy all they have to offer IT IS WORTH IT! On another note, I fell in love with the sheets during my facial....I bought a set on my way out! My husband LOVES them! You HAVE to get these sheets! Imagine sleeping at the spa every night...that's how I sleep now! read more

This review is for the massage. The spa facility is five stars. I recommend getting a manicure or pedicure and enjoying the spa. A 50 minute deep tissue massage is $160. I'm no stranger to massages or the variance in price, but this was the most mediocre massage at the highest price point I have ever had. For this premium price I expect to have one of the best massages ever. This is about twice as expensive as an hour long deep tissue massage in my personal experience (I've probably had 30 massages in the last three years). This massage was mediocre because the massage therapist neglected to warm up his hands. I have come to expect a massage therapist to do a quick, maybe even 20-30 second massage over the blanket and when they remove part of the draping to do the massage on the skin, their hands are warm. This massage was too expensive to start with cold hands. The room where I received the massage was also mediocre. The spa itself is beautiful. The room however, was just a massage table, a hook for your robe and a counter with a single bottle of lotion/oil. Maybe I would've chalked it up to minimalism and a clean space for the mind and body, but at the end of my massage I happened to see the underside of the head cradle and it was badly worn, cheap looking, and starting to fall apart. Also, I personally like to see the lotions and potions out on the counter, so I know my massage therapist can cater to my needs specifically. I'm talking like various aromatherapy oils, or bio freeze etc. At every massage I have ever had, the massage therapist greets me at the end of the massage with a cup of water. That did not happen. I was escorted out to the lobby and my massage therapist did pour me a hot cup of water for tea, but I really missed the most basic refreshment of cool water following a deep tissue session. The massage itself was basic. I expressed my desire to focus on shoulders and he definitely spent adequate time on my shoulders, but never manipulated my arms in any way to apply deeper and better pressure around my scapula. The leg massage was essentially just oil rubbed on my legs like one would apply sunscreen. If this was a $100 50 minute massage I would have been "meh" about it and I would not have spent time writing a review. However, the price is outrageous for the service I received. read more

I LOVE this place. I live locally, and this is the place I go on the weekends to get away from everything. I've had the Advanced Repair Facial, pedicures, deep tissue massage, and brow waxing. All the technicians were attentive to my requests and needs. I'm consistently happy with the services. The staff is first rate and very courteous. The spa itself is wonderful. I usually stay for the entire day and use the steam room, jacuzzi, outdoor pool, and outdoor hot tub. The spa is separate from the hotel and for adults only so it's quiet and peaceful. A great place to relax year round. It's on a bit of a bluff so the Hill Country winds blow through the outdoor area and provide a nice area to relax. I can't wait to return to the Lantana Spa, here's why: First, the complex is entirely separate from the hotel, which means greater privacy and complete silence. That was a nice touch. Second, the staff in the lobby were gracious and courteous. I enjoyed their attitude and how they knew who we were (maybe based on check-in time or something). Third, the staff were perfect. Although the idea of the ribbon and knots was silly to me, I give them kudos for their individualization of their spa with that little experience. Each staff member was smiling, professional, and kind. Now for the spa: the ladies side was amazing. I liked how the attendant provided a tour of the entire space and brought me to my locker in the locker room. The bathrooms, showers, and changing area are all very private. The nicest touch was the vanity area, complete with hair driers, straighteners, curling irons, combs, make-up products, and more. That was the BEST. I've never seen a spa with all of that. I had a couples massage, and it was great. We were in a pretty quiet room (my one complaint was that we could hear the water in the pipes). The room had everything a spa needs, a large tub, a shower, two massage tables, lounge chairs, and a fully stocked and concealed supply cupboard. We entered, and the room was dim and calming. The massage tables had heaters, so they were SO COZY. The blanket was warm, too. The scrub process was limb by limb, so I stayed warm the whole time. The hot stones were the perfect temperature, too. My only critique was that the scrub was longer than the massage (which was too short!). I can't wait to go back. read more

My three sisters and I had services all booked at the same time so we could be together. One of the staff called in sick and there was no option but to rearrange our schedule, separating our appointment times. The manager, Claire did everything she could to help us still have a great day and was so sweet and patient when we were frustrated. It ended up being a great day! We enjoyed the amenities: steam room, sauna, even the showers were great. Bring a bathing suit! There's a jacuzzi, plus you'll be glad to have it in the steam room and for the cooling shower after. There is also a pool but the weather wasn't good enough for us to use it. I got a Swedish massage and Luis was great. Excellent pressure and he moved my arms and legs to get the best angle for relaxing the muscles. The combination of the amenities and the service was just a great spa experience. The price is higher than I've ever paid for a massage but you're definitely paying for the extra amenities, and they are great. read more

The spa is beautiful, spacious and relaxing. I had the best massage ever, it was actually a prenatal massage. I have had several prenatal massages at resort spas throughout the pregnancy. Most are such a light pressure, and did not do much fir me' This was was a deeper firm pressure, it actually worked out the knots and tension I had. David was my massage therapist, who was very professional and took his time asking about my problem areas. He also has an identical twin who works there as well. The only reason I am not putting 5 stars in the spa pool temperature. I was here for Thanksgiving and the "heated spa pool" was freezing! Not able to even get in at all. all This time when I called to make the appointment I asked if the pool was heated, they said its kept between 80-84F. The pool once again was very cold, there were several people who got in the pool shrieking of the cold and immediately got out. I also tried to get in and swim some laps to warm up, I was out within 5 minutes. Several people including myself spoke with the manager Laura? regarding the pool temp. She seemed very uninterested to hear what anyone had to say. It was really too bad as it was a nice day, day and would have loved to enjoy the beautiful pool as well. I visit the Marriott Harbor spa in Ft Lauderdale frequently and their spa pool is heated and kept between 90-94F, and it feels amazing. I wish this Marriott word take note of that:) read more

Enjoyed the facial but their business office is so unprofessional and completely disorganized. For that reason alone, I will never return. I booked a treatment for myself and my friend giving them my credit card to guarantee our appointments. We both had our services and we both checked out and paid our bill. Somehow, my friend's service ended up on my credit card. When I called, I was told that she did not pay (which she did because I saw her pay) so they billed it to me. Completely unethical. My card was given to guarantee the appointment, not to pay the bill. They even had her telephone number as well as mine - no one called either of us. Turns out somehow her swipe did not go through. Completely not our fault. After all was said and done, she called them and took care of her bill over the phone, and they credited my card, but we will BOTH never return. Very poor handling on their part. Ruined the entire hotel weekend experience for me. read more

This spa is AWESOME!!! I have been to Spa d'sante, Spa at Cibolo Canyon, Folawns and many others, but Lantana is by far the best!! I actually thought it was better than the spa at Cosmo hotel in Las Vegas! The customer service is outstanding and the facilities are five star!! I love the spa guest only pool. It is so relaxing. A waitress brings you drinks as you enjoy the pool and cabana. The food and drinks are a little pricey, but the drinks are strong and the food is very good. I have been to a few spas and this one to start with is average. You walk in and you are greeted appropriately and given your robe, slippers and a tour of the amenities of the spa which include girls only spa, aroma therapy, sauna and steam room with eucalyptus which are all pretty standard. (There is also a mirrored males only portion on the opposite side) They have a co ed waiting room down stairs if you have an appointment with your S.O. I love how spacious the aroma room is and the lighting of the steam room is perfect. They also have a creative twist with a red ribbon on which you are suppose to tie one knot per stressful thought you have while in the spa. At the end of your agenda you are to leave it in a bowl at the bottom of the stairs to symbolize you are leaving all of your stresses within the walls of the spa. However average the spa, my masseur and all of the staff were exceptional- deep tissue massages are suppose to be a challenge and she delivered. Leigh is a MUST when you book an appointment read more
