I had a fun time at Lappert's Ice Cream. I was walking around Sausalito for the first time and saw everyone eating ice cream. I had to see where they got it from, and the very crowded shop with a huge ice cream sign was a no brainer. I went inside and we had to almost shove our way to get to a free server. It is a smaller cafe with lots of people. Although there is some seating, I think it is best to enjoy the ice cream outside. We were able to try a few flavors, so I asked our server what his favorite was to which he said "I don't eat ice cream." We had a laugh, but he said the Date Casablanca was good. We were curious and tried it, and ended up ordering it! We thought it was unique and enjoyable! Not too heavy, and the dates add a very strong sweetness. The ambiance is nice, but the seating is limited indoors and there is a bit more outdoors. The service was good, and my friend and I were able to try a few flavors! I got the Cookie Monster ice cream flavor (single scoop in a cup). I would give this a 10/10 because I was surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. The line was incredibly long, we thought that the ice cream would be good. It was below average and the service was horrible, we ended up throwing most of our ice cream away. They were incredibly rude and dismissive and clearly do not value their customers. We tried asking for a pup cup or whipped cream on the side for our dog or even a kids scoop and they said you can only buy a kids scoop if there is a child with you. Weird rule, but that's beside the point, they were aggressive and rude for no reason. We also asked to taste a flavor and they gave us a drop of the melted ice cream. The key lime pie gelato had key lime pie sorbet swirled through it with pie chunks. We got to sample a couple flavors before deciding on which one we wanted. I got a single scoop ($5.95) of the Blueberry Lemon Cookie, and my boyfriend got a single scoop of the Ube Macapuno. Their single scoop is pretty generous. Given the amount, it would've been great if they allowed up to two flavors for a single scoop. Unfortunately, we couldn't do that. The Blueberry Lemon Cookie was very yummy. I typically don't gravitate towards lemon flavored desserts, but after sampling this one, I immediately knew I wanted a scoop of it. The lemon was subtle and blended in very well with the blueberry. I loved the cookie bits; they provided a nice contrasting texture. I did try a couple bites of the Ube Macapuno. It didn't have the usual ube flavor I'm used to. I think the macapuno overpowered the ube. Although I personally didn't like it, my boyfriend did. So it was just personal preference. But the staff are accommodating and friendly, and they let you try different flavors! As we were walking around the water eating our ice cream, a random Sausalito resident came up to us and told us we had made good choices. I agree! On a day trip to Sausalito, my wife and I stopped by Lappert's Ice Cream after lunch. Because it was a Friday instead of the weekend, there wasn't a huge line. The overcast and drizzly weather probably contributed to the lack of a line as well. I liked that I was able to try a lot of their flavors. All samples are provided on a disposable wooden tasting spoon and you get quite a large sample scoop. I eventually decided on raisin rum after trying about three other flavors. I opted to get my scoop in a cup instead of a cone and it ended up being a very large portion. Had there been a half-scoop offering, I definitely would've taken that instead. The flavor of the raisin rum ice cream was exactly as described, with lots of raisins sprinkled throughout. Definitely on the sweet side though. To balance out the sweetness of the ice cream, I ordered a brewed coffee as well. I was impressed that brewed coffee is made fresh: after you place your order, fresh beans are ground for your coffee. Overall, Lappert's has above average ice cream. Lots of variety here but I still prefer Salt & Straw. read more

I've recently been on an ice cream binge because of the summer heat. I was in the Sausalito area with my wife exploring when we saw Lapperts. There was a large crowd, and of course if there's a big crowd it gotta be good right?!?! Well, it did not disappoint! I was expecting Lapperts to be a traditional ice cream parlor, but I was very surprised by the Hawaiian influence. I walked in, looked at the menu and immediately noticed "Hana Road" and went like say what now?? Staff was very nice and patient. There was decent line behind us, but we told the staff this was our first time here, and they let us take our time and sample the different flavors. I went with their Hana Road, which is basically a rocky road. I really enjoyed it! I able to finished it before it started melting. That's saying something!
