The other day I was dying for a good hot dog. Every now and then...I just got to have one...(my favorite food) I went to Larkys one of my favs in Parkersburg area. It was packed as usual. Hard to get street parking, and no parking lot. This is cash only establishment and very small. I was greeted immediately and placed my order to go. I ordered 2 hot dogs with chili, slaw & onions with a can of RC Cola. Paid my $5 putting the assorted coins of change into tip jar. Stood back against wall to wait patiently. The cook is extremely busy on his flat top, flipping burgers and whipping around like a weird dance...he has this to a science...very quick and orderly...you can tell this was not his first rodeo. The room was full of about 12 men, seated at squared counter top on stools laughing and chatting like winded up Chatty Cathy dolls. They were assorted styles of uniforms...policemen, city workers and Suits...everyone loves a good dog and burger!! She put my food into bag to hand me. She smiled and said "I'm sorry but we ran out of slaw'. I have to admit some disappointing news but not a deal breaker. Don't get me wrong, to me it's not a hot dog unless fully dressed with Chili, Slaw & onions...but hey I like Chili Dogs too. Thanked her and left with my brown lunch bag of Hot Steaming Goodness!!! One of Parkersburg's best kept secrets that shouldn't be a secret. It isn't much to look at but those are usually the best spots. Food is cheap and simple but it hits the spot every time. I love this place. You can get drive thru burgers and plenty of places, but the simple yet delicious burgers and other "fast food" items are worth it. We will order and wait in the car while someone from our group is waiting inside. Ahh, the anticipation! Larky's is an old favorite in my family that started with my grandparents' love for the food, going down the line to my kiddo. I have missed Yielky's since they closed in 1994. I never forgot the unique taste of their ground beef. The only thing I've found that is close is Five Guys. Several years ago I heard that it had reopened. People swore up and down that it was the same restaurant, not just the same location. I always meant to try it but a combination of their hours, me living out of town, and them only taking cash made it difficult to visit. I finally got the chance while visiting home a few days ago. I tried to come in Sunday but it looked like the windows were covered with paper. I thought maybe they'd gone out of business. I came back Monday and they were open. I don't remember much about Yielky's as I was very young but it seems to look mostly the same inside, the biggest difference being the round tabletops missing. Be forewarned that this place takes cash only. They also have very confusing signage. One sign says they are carryout only due to "bathroom facilities". However, most everyone there ate their lunch at the counter. They do actually have a bathroom. It's a port-a-potty beside the building. They were so extremely busy when I arrived that it was difficult to get in the door. It took about 10-15 minutes to have my order taken. It took another 20 to get the food. I did feel like everyone else got their order before me, even people who ordered after me. Like reviewer D. T. said, they show favor to regulars. They actually have more than burgers and, if I'd noticed that before ordering, I probably would have gotten the hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes instead. They also have something called a Larky dog which is apparently just a WV style hotdog (sauce and slaw). I would recommend not buying a drink from here. A single can is $1. The burger was good enough for me but it didn't taste like that Yielky meat I remember from childhood. Despite the so-so experience, I do plan to come back to try the other menu options. Double cheese burger that fits the toasted bun perfectly! No questions about how you want it fixed. They know how to make a hamburger. Fries are the crinkled kind that keep the heat. Only seven seats so you may end up doing take out. You can eat a meal for under $5 and it's real food. I'll be back. read more

Great little burger stand! Probably the best cheeseburger I have ever had. They put the fresh balled up patty on the griddle and smash it flat with the spatula and five minutes later you are eating it. I had mine with hot chili which was actually pretty spicy. Also had a hot dog which was great as well. Fries were perfect: fresh and crispy on the outside. Caution: the large drink is really large. I love eating at local places and thanks to Yelp I am able to find places like this! read more

Yielky's was a favorite of mine growing up and was in this same location so I decided to give this place a try. First off there was no hurry to get my order, although a "regular" customer got his order taken right away. The person that took the order had to check with me three more times to verify my order - 2 single cheeseburgers to go with mustard pickle and onion. Don't know what was hard about that? As to the burgers - I ended up with double cheeseburgers but after the previous issues I didn't quibble. The meat seemed fresh although it left small bits of tuff pieces in my mouth. The previous shop I referred to before raised and ground their own beef and you were greeted right away with a smile like a friend. Flavors otherwise were good and meat juicy but nothing that stands out and definitely not the quality of the old Yielky's. This place in my opinion doesn't have quite the control over the quality of the meat nor the friendly vibe to a stranger. In essence it is the typical ground meat I can buy in my local chain grocery. Due to the order problems and typical ground meat I rate this place average. I am not from this area anymore so my comparisons may not relate to what is available locally, however I am a BIG fan of the NET burger. read more
