DIY fail I had Adams Autoworx change the Timing belt, water pump etc a few years ago and they did a thorough inspection of my 2006 RX 330 at the same time. We don't drive it more than 2000 miles a year, but the inspection listed several areas that needed attention. From that experience, I knew Adams was a quality and honest establishment in Castro Valley. Well today I thought I would change out the air filter on the Lexus and with the help of Youtube I thought "no problem". Well I had a problem and I could not for the life of me get the air filter housing to set back in place with the new filter. I called Adams and spoke to Paige and she said to bring the Lexus and they would look at it. I get there Paige tries to get it back in place but can't; she calls Jose from the garage to take a look and within minutes he has got it back in place and tightened up all the 10 mm bolts in the engine bay. It bothers me that I must write this, but the time has come. As one can tell from my previous review, I was really high on this place, but the bloom is off the rose. I took my Lexus there 2 days ago for a routine oil change, and to repair a coolant leak that I had diagnosed. The leak was indisputably the result of the lower radiator hose rubbing against the alternator drive pulley. This hose was installed by them when they did my timing belt service. Because I provided the hose, they disclaimed warranty coverage. The problem is that it was not a part failure; it was an installation error. I wasn't crazy about it, even after Paige began/attempted to tell me that if that were the case, it would have failed months ago. That is patently false. It was a tight installation, and the contact between the two parts was very slight. A blind man could see it. I explained to her that I am a 50+year veteran of the automotive repair industry, and that this was an installation error; not a part failure. She even claimed that they did not install it. I invited her to look up the repair sequence for the timing belt job in Alldata. She should have taken notice that I even knew what Alldata was. I advised her that one of the early steps in the process is to remove the radiator. Since they did acknowledge the timing belt/water pump job, they really don't have a leg to stand on. She was not about to be swayed, even when I told her that That would be the last of me they would ever see. Ever hear the term "penny wise and pound foolish"? So beware- their warranty means nothing. Had I not picked up on the leak in time, things would be very different. A $20K engine's destruction would have shown them a much more animated and dissatisfied customer. Bill Adams would have never allowed this to happen, but alas, Bill couldn't be involved, and many of you know why. But he understood the importance of keeping their clientele happy and returning. Unfortunately, he had to distance himself from the business, and hand it down to the kids. They are woefully under prepared, in my humble estimation. They wanted to charge me for a repair that was clearly caused by their error. Imagine that...chasing away any customer over a simple and relatively inexpensive issue like this. But a customer who has a history of thousands of dollars with your company??? They will learn a hard lesson, and it won't involve me any longer. All the people that older reviewers are raving about are gone. So are some of the perks. They have discontinued UBER service for customers, even though their sign out front brags of it. I'm voting with my feet and my wallet....Good luck; you're going to need it. read more

My vehicle is a 2016 BMW i3. Because the 12V auxiliary battery was weakening, I called Castro Valley Autoworx to inquire if they could perform the replacement. They explicitly assured me they had the necessary expertise to change a BMW i3 12V battery and they have new battery specific for i3. On the day of the appointment, my car was functioning normally. I drove the vehicle to their shop without any warning lights or issues and handed over the keys. Six hours later, I returned to the shop only to find it completely immobilized. The center screen displayed multiple error messages, including a warning that the high-voltage system could not detect or charge the auxiliary battery. The Autoworx technician connected an OBD scanner to attempt to clear the codes, which failed. The vehicle's power button became completely unresponsive, and the new battery began draining rapidly. Instead of taking responsibility for their inability to properly integrate the new battery, the Autoworx staff attempted to deflect the blame, falsely claiming that my car's main high-voltage battery had already failed prior to arriving. This is categorically false, as I drove the car to their shop in normal, working condition. The shop denied any fault in their workmanship, refused to assist with towing the now-dead vehicle, and insisted I pay them $450.00 for the parts and labor before I could leave at 6:00 PM. I subsequently had to pay out-of-pocket to tow my immobilized vehicle to a certified BMW dealership. The dealership technician diagnosed the issue immediately: Castro Valley Autoworx had installed a poor-quality aftermarket battery and had completely failed to reprogram the i3's system to recognize it--a mandatory step when replacing an EV's 12V battery. The dealership swapped in an OEM BMW battery, properly reprogrammed the vehicle. Following this, my car returned to normal operating condition. The dealership confirmed there were absolutely no pre-existing issues with my vehicle or its high-voltage system. Castro Valley Autoworx lured me in with false claims of EV competence, installed substandard parts, failed to follow standard BMW programming procedures, stranded me with an immobilized vehicle, and extorted $450.00 from me for their negligent work. read more

I took it to a nearby dealership, who correctly diagnosed the problem - including which TSBs covered this problem - and got the manufacturer to cover the repair ($6k total) as that system was still under warranty. Although everyone was friendly and pleasant, they dropped the ball on the issue diagnosis. I would not take my vehicle back here. read more

It has been over a year since I brought my vehicle in for repairs, and critical issues remain unresolved. The owner informed me 10 months ago that an engine cover was awaiting delivery from Nissan, but I have received no updates since then. Meanwhile, my brake lights stay on constantly, and the car continues to drive poorly, making it unsafe and unreliable. I understand delays can happen with parts, but the complete lack of follow-up or transparency is unacceptable. A simple update or alternative solution would have gone a long way. At this point, I've lost confidence in the shop's ability to complete the repair or prioritize customer service. I hope this review prompts the shop to finally address the issue or at least communicate proactively with customers facing prolonged delays. Until then, I cannot recommend their services. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this auto repair shop and feel it's important to warn others. The customer service was horrific from start to finish. Communication was unprofessional, and concerns about the vehicle were not handled respectfully or responsibly. After their work was completed, our car was returned with additional issues that were not present before. Instead of taking responsibility or attempting to resolve the problems they caused, the shop (Trent) sends a message stating that they would no longer provide service to us. Didn't call but sent a message! Rude and inappropriate. Being refused service after creating further issues with a customer's vehicle is unacceptable!! There was no accountability, I wouldn't recommend this shop. I expect honesty and clear communication from an auto repair business. read more

I had used this business several times with great experiences. A while back my wife took our car in for an oil change and approximately $300 later she drove out. At the time I came on and left a scathing review. I don't like places that will upsell. They wrote me and offered me a refund if I would remove the review. In fairness, they did the work so I removed the review believing that maybe it was a one time issue. That was until today. I had a screw in one of my tires and thought the other one was low. I called and Gordon asked me to bring it in early so they would have time to get to it. At midday he called and asked for authorization to fix the flat for only $80. I agreed as I had little choice. I called shortly after 3 inquiring about my vehicle. Gordon said he was still waiting for my authorization and had been trying to call me. I had my phone on and in front of me the whole time. He did dial my wife's number but left no message. I told him that I had spoken to him at 11:38 myself and given him the authorization. He called back at 3:38 to tell me that the shop had received my authorization at 11:30 and they were pushing my car up to the front to get it done. Mind you I dropped it off before 9. Gordon said they did find the screw but couldn't find a reason for the low air in the other tire. He also told me they were open till 5:30 and I had a meeting at 5 that I couldn't move or miss. I told him I would be in to get my truck. When I arrived I even showed him the call log that he hadn't made all the calls he claimed. He informed me that he never said that. I gave a two because the problem was actually fixed, but the service and price were atrocious. This place has always had everything and the kitchen sink approach and has always been overpriced in comparison to other places but I was willing to overlook it because the rest of the service was really solid and on time. Something major seems to have changed all the old faces are gone and the service is too. The pricing seems to have gotten even worse and it took us 3 days (two days with no communication meaning we had to rent a car which adds to the expense and inconvenience, I had to bug them for updates) on a simple diagnostic and reprogramming job even with an appointment. They had some service recommendations that weren't even legit (listed a crack on a perfectly fine windshield). We are gonna play trust me on a whole bit of what they marked urgent repairs (i.e. ball joint) The real killer for me is that if I hadn't been paying attention even though I said no to bloated recommendations they tried to overcharge me to the tune of 185 bucks dollars by "forgetting" that I had bought tires there and the rotation was supposed to be free, and then they "forgot" to apply part of the diagnostic fee to the repair per their own policy. This on top of already super inflated pricing. Definitely not going back. read more

Im not the type to make post but your customer are right, you guys do upcharge prices, got two rear tires michelin and alignment for $1,300. that's insane, $200 for alignment. the alignment is good but still. I went to the other shop tires and they charged me $840 for 2 front michelin tires. and I asked how much do they charged at the hayward shop for alignment, they said $80, the most that is cost is $100 that's for the tesla cyber truck alignment. and not to mentioned later on, I asked for a quote for brake pad and rotor, they charging 3k for all 4 pads and rotor. I just went to bimmer guy shop in cherryland, they charged $1,800 for all. it's insane how much u guys are trying to upcharge for your service. if u think profits is better than caring about customer u guys got it. I would recommend u guys to check somewhere else if u dont want them run your money down. only gave u guys 3 stars bc the staff are nice. but if its not for that, its a one star the flat run tires I understand, but the charge for pads and rotor. and also the battery, you guys charge $700 for battery and the bmw dealership charge 50 to 100 less than that. you guys charge dealership prices. I asked bmw dealership for pad and rotor it was way less than your guy prices. even my neighbor next door to me, he said he went to you guys once and he's not coming back, why? bc u guys charge wayy to much. it's fine if you want to run your business that way, but it's not right. I'm sure they do good work based on most of the reviews, but I don't trust them. I have been there 3 times and each time I leave they recommend another repair and it always lands around $900. I fell for it the first time. The 2nd time they said I needed new tires. When I went to the dealership a week later they said I had at LEAST another 40k to go before a replacements. Had some car trouble, so I brought my car here based on a recommendation. It looked as if Alternator was not working, after they checked the battery (battery was about 6 months old). They told me it would be about $1700+ (parts and labor). Without even looking at my car; the guy in the back tells me they have to drain and remove the radiator and then put it back once the part is replaced. I did online research and found out that you can change part without removing the radiator (extra work and cost). You can go from the top or underneath, without removing radiator. I opted to take my car to my mechanic buddy and he verified that removing the radiator was not needed. He did the work for $800 (instead of $1700). This place told me $1100 for just labor cause of the extra work. I know everyone needs to eat, but overcharging in today's economy hurts the consumer. I suggest consumers to do your research before you commit to repairs. I hope this review helps you. TY read more

As of March 2024, this shop's rate is $260/hour. They probably have more overhead than some independent shops, but this rate seems very comparable to what one might pay at a dealership. Several in our extended family speak highly about their friendly service, but we realized that the cost of the customer care doesn't align with our budget unfortunately. read more

Brought my 2012 f150 in for water pump and new timing chains. Got a call back from dywane at front desk the following day. This dude.... calls me back the following day talking about you've got a blown head gasket, missing in all 6 cylinders and needs new block and proceed to tell me it would cost $16,000.00 . Let me just tell you that it is a 6 cylinder and if it's missing in all 6 cylinders it would even run. I picked up the truck the next day and got it out of there. The only thing the diagnostic paper said was they did a Hydro carbon parts per million test, never even took a wrench to it $390.00. Straight up used car salesman. Bunch of backyard gas stations mechanics try to soak you for money . never use this place !! read more

Came here first for an oil change because I was in the neighborhood and saw they have a great ratings and thought I gave it a try. Everything went well. Came back here for a battery change, new brakes, and a few other things. Well this is when everything went down hill. They replaced the battery. They replaced the brakes but they could not reset my sensors. Instead I was told to bring my car directly to Mercedes as they are unable to fix the error messages. Also since I just got my breaks done, it is not a safety hazard to have the sensors unplug. WTH! Not to mention they kept my car for 4 days to run diagnostics and of course I was charge for all of it. To remedy the situation I got 50% discount on one of the diagnostics. Really? There were a bunch of other issues with the car but of course their team is not equipped to fix the issues. Please stay away from this place at all cost except if you want just a simple oil change. After a "$200 minimum to look at anything" (and a comment about my windshield - that was replaced a week earlier)... I had hoped for some results... instead I got an estimate to replace a transmission module for $800 - and they said this part not available ... I went home, looked at UTube solutions, found part on line for $244, installed it in 5 mins. wasn't fixed the first time. took it back and never got a call while they took the engine apart. luckily I got there a little after closing and was told that they didn't know the problem. they had it during the weekend and messed up a lot of my plans for that week. Never reimbursed for the last job or at least partially. if you don't mind having your car in the shop for about a week then I recommend you going here. TL;DR version: Beware of questionable work performance (& possible price gouging) on your vehicle. I'm willing to give them one more chance on the next oil change visit...lol Dropped off my MINI Cooper @ 8a, as scheduled. Initially, I was quoted about $100 for just a simple oil change. However, I did ask for a tire rotation and was quoted $167 total for both oil change & rotation. I agreed & signed off. Fast forward 4.5 hrs later, they texted me the car inspection report...where I have a few gripes about: 1) Tire rotation was not performed due to "low tire tread". Service Advisor Becky tells me "You need to replace all 4 tires, tech did not rotate due to low tread...." Ummm...NO. *I* know how to check my tires. My tread is getting low, but it's NOT even *at* the warning bars yet; I still have several months left. I check my tires at least ONCE a month to see if they justify a rotation/replacement or not. TBH...I tell her I don't worry about replacing tires til they actually reach the warning bars. She tells me that they all "need to be replaced *now* or you risk tire blowout..." Really? Is that supposed to be some sort of scare tactic to get me to instantly drop $900+ for a set of new tires? I highly doubt a blow out is going to occur on RUN FLATS when they haven't reached warning bars yet. I'd be more concerned if there was an air pocket bubble on the sidewalls - that's more likely to blow vs tread-not-at-warning-bars....BUT HEY, I'M A GIRL...WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT CARS? Becky then proceeds to tell me my total cost is $177. OH. HELL. NO. I question why I'm still being charged for tire rotation. She says: "its because the tech still had to take off your tires to measure..." I asked again and rephrased my question: "Why am I being charged FULL price for a service that was *NOT* performed?" She then offers me $20 discount; which I begrudgingly agreed to - ONLY because I felt bad that the tech still did /SOME/ labor on the tires. (IMO, really shouldn't have been charged at all if the requested service wasn't rendered....I should've just kept with the oil change.) *SIGH* If it wasn't for apartment living, I'd *still* be rotating my own tires. It's not that difficult w/ 2x hydraulic wheel jacks & stands -which I already own. 2) Not a major gripe, but it does make your tech look a bit incompetent. Tech felt the need to report "body damage" on my front bumper. When it wasn't body damage at all.... IT WAS COMMON ROAD GRIME. Several years ago...I, MYSELF installed a clear bra on my own car. The plastic on the clear bra wasn't even punctured/broken through. She tells me that they need to report it in case "customers try to come back & claim the damage wasn't there before." - I totally get it, it's definitely a liability concern that you need to protect your business. Car rental agencies do it all the time. I told S/A Becky that they might want to have a word w/ the tech if they can't tell the difference between dirt vs an actual scratch on the car...Yet, in all my previous visits to Adams...they never reported the paint scratch on my rear bumper...LOL read more

My kid's car broke a timing belt. I had it towed to Adams Autoworx and they not only replaced the belt and got the car running but they found and repaired a clunk the car made for years and no one else was able to fix. I rest better know my college age kid is driving a safe car. read more

Well how do I start my experience with this shop was horrible. First went here to get the Air conditioning on my car and they say its a free check up well thats just their catch to get you in the door. Then they called me that they needed to go further into checking electric thats going to be 175.00 I agreed. Kept my car for an extra day and then call me and tell me that its my Ac compressor is bad . Cost for repair with condenser 3100.00 Just the compressor 2100 I was like wow I had a transmission replaced on my truck for 2800 why is it so high. I then told them I might sell the car its not worth to pay that much in my personal opinion. Called around a few places and got a place to do the compressor for 1/4 of what they quoted me . Ordered a brand new compressor from Hyundai and had it installed and A/C still did not work. Came back to this shop to speak to Mr Bill Adams and he was the biggest jerk to me. Tells me go back to the shop that did the work I don't want to work on your car. What is wrong with you ?? Jerk you diagnosed my car wrong its not the compressor he's like I don't know where you got the compressor (its from Hyundai oem part) He says the shop you went too I know him he's a crappy Mechanic I pay my mechanics good money and we don't work for free. Hello Sir who cares what you pay your mechanics and you should work for free if your diagnostics are not correct. Then he's like only way I will give you money back is if you take your car to Hyundai and have them personally call me. Going forward car was taken to Hyundai 2 hours later problem was fixed and was not the compressor. My Advice to you Mr Bill Adams treat people with respect and learn how to talk to customers and its unprofessional to call your customers liars just because they don't want to do the job with you because you are 4 times higher compared to other shops. Sir you are very disrespectful and stop ripping people off that work hard. I will tell everyone I know about my experience and you will never get my business. This was our third time using Adams because of their exceptional service and work. Both of ours cars got serviced here and we've always received great customer service and up& above beyond expectations. I had a flat tire yesterday and I could call my insurance for a road side service but that's take me an hour or so. I was nearby Adam's and asked if they'd help. Without hesitation, David (one of the service advisors there) took a look at my car and said they'll take care of it. 10-15 mins later it was done and I was ready to pay and he said, don't worry about it. Wow! What an excellent service they provide to their customers! It's almost unheard of nowadays. So absolutely love Adam's work. Always had a great experience here, keep in mind they are a little more on the pricey side but they will be honest with you and go over everything that needs to be replaced/fixed on ur car. I believe they prefer warranties over aftermarket so just be prepared for that. read more
