Best. Burger. Ever. And one of the FEW places that will cook to order. I asked for Medium Rare, and the very nice gentleman at the grill told me it would be ready in 2 minutes...and so it was, and perfectly cooked. This is a roadside shack but it seems to run with the precision of a top notch bricks and mortar restaurant. The burger is the only thing I've had, but everything I saw being picked up at the window looked great, especially the lobster rolls. The sign said they were out of Haddock Chowder and it was just 12:30 so I have to assume it is excellent as well. I am so sad they have closed for the season early. The lobster and crab rolls are delicious but they have absolutely the best cheeseburgers I have ever had! All you need is the burger, American cheese and ketchup, so good! Very friendly service and during this unusual season, they went beyond the safety protocols and mandates required by the state of Maine, I felt very comfortable ordering and eating there. We ate here before our Damariscotta River cruise, and it was wonderful. While they have renowned crab and lobster rolls, we had been eating seafood for a week and two of us got hamburgers while I had a fish sandwich. The hamburgers were outstanding, the fish sandwich wonderful, although a fried "square" of fish, but served on a fresh bun with a nice slab of tomato and crisp fresh lettuce - delish. Service was friendly. The staff work their butts off. Prices were very reasonable. We could have spent more a McDonald's without the atmosphere - which is picnic-table-in-parking-lot kitchy. Hidden gem of a food shack that even tops Red's Eats in my opinion. The price of a lobster roll is about $16 and has just a little less meat than Red's while having a substantially better tasting roll. They also have many other options as well such as a haddock chowder which we didn't try this time. While not close to many other things, it's not too out of the way as long as you plan on taking route 1. read more

Hidden gem on the side of the highway. Haddock chowder was light and tasty. Lobster rolls were very big and very delicious. For reference, in July of 2014 the lobster rolls were $14. I agree! Can't believe there aren't more reviews. In addition to the huge and delicious Lobster roll, I think the crab roll is fantastic. They also make a "Syrian" salad with cucumber, red onion and mint that is refreshing and a great foil to the rich sandwiches. The restaurant is CLEAN clean clean both inside and out (I took a peek inside), which I love, and Bill and Barb couldn't have been more friendly. I wouldn't waste my time at Red's when I can get a better lunch at a spotless restaurant just down the road. read more

Stopped here for lunch because we were in the area. What a great decision. I had a crunchy, wonderful chicken sandwich. My husband had the chili cheeseburger which was also delicious. Nice people, good food. Pleasant outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade. Cleanest restroom ever. read more

Very good, very healthy homemade food here. Great take out spot for the businesses in the area. Tourist season is when they are open and will rob you blind with the price of their lobster rolls, however that is typical in Maine. They are slightly pricey but the quality is worth the extra few dollars. All and all a nice place for a quick bite on the go. They only have outdoor seating. read more

Crab roll: Great. By great I mean they didn't "cut back" and give you the small shreds like some places in Freeport (on Route 1 (close to Muddy Rudder)). Lobster roll: Great. If, you are anywhere near Damariscotta, Larsen's is not to be missed. Their lobster roll is the very best around. Large chunks of lobster, mixed with mayonaisse.I would say there has to be over a pound of lobsta.The flavor of the lobster melds with the mayo. Yummy! The buttered hotdog roll is grilled and you have to eat most of the lobsta with a fork. I believe the price is around $14.00. They also make a great clam chowder. Whole bellies, not chopped up clams. The clam chowder is on Friday. This little gem, is for take out only. There are picnic tables for dining. Enjoy! read more

For informal, inexpensive outdoor dining, this is as good as it gets. My wife had the crab roll, which was excellent, although I'm not a fan of northern crab. I had a bowl of the haddock chowder, which was full of generous chunks of haddock in a delicious broth, neither over-salted nor thickened. I also tried the fried zucchini, a signature side dish, which could be described as a subtle alternative to onion rings. As an accompaniment, I chose the wasabi cucumber mayonnaise, which offered a little bite to contrast with the blandness of the fried squash. Simple fare, yes, but with a delicate touch. No Michelin stars, but a standout in its class. I should add that my order was cooked promptly by a cheerful and friendly kitchen staff. read more
