Great, homemade Mexican food. We are in the process of moving and wanted a restaurant with good food but without the sports on Super Bowl Sunday. This was the perfect spot. The friendly staff seated us right away. The food was authentic Mexican food. We had the enchiladas and chile rellenos and it was just as delicious as our favorite restaurant back home. NOT GOOD! Small restaurant in a strip mall that we decided to stop into thinking maybe a cheap meal. For 2 of us it was $56.00 and the enchiladas were meh served cold with very little rice. My guest got the asada which was soooo tough and grisly the steak knife provided was hard to cut into the steak. Got the house margarita which tasted like limeade. Service was o-k the tables are so close together and in one area it's easy to get someone's attention. Tortillas were store bought barely heated. Definitely not venturing here again. read more

This is a solid place for some delicious Mexican food. Family owned and tucked in a run down shopping center, you know it has to be good. Been there for years and have never had a bad dish. The service is always friendly and everyone is always smiling. My favorite dish is the beef enchiladas. Very well seasoned ground beef and smother in some delicious enchilada sauce. I normally don't like typical enchilada sauce. It is usually heavy, but their is not like that at all. Great flavor. Good margaritas too! read more

There are many small independent Mexican restaurants in the Denver area, and most of them are pretty good. Los Alcacatraces is my new favorite! I like the simplicity of this place. Great food, excellent service, and reasonable prices. That's what five-star ratings are made of in my book. They make a great breakfast burrito, so put them on your breakfast list if you're in the area. They are also open for lunch and dinner. You can call in your order and pick it up if you want. They have a generous happy hour M-F from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM. In addition to that, they have a nicely stocked full bar. We were there for dinner on a Saturday evening. We were greeted and seated quickly and in no time at all had some chips and some of the best salsa I've had in a long time. The menu is extensive. Whatever kind of Mexican food you like, they have it. They also have burgers, sandwiches, and salads if for some crazy reason you don't want some of their awesome Mexican food. I had #41 on the menu, burritos de chicharrones and bean. $12.25. It's two good-sized smothered burritos packed with crunchy chicharrones. It's not easy to find a place that has good chicharrones. Look no further, you'll find them here. Loved every bite. I grew up in Denver but now live in LA. In LA you cannot find a sopapilla anywhere. In Denver, you can easily find them, but most of them aren't worth the calories. They are usually flat and bready. They are supposed to be light and airy. Los Alcatraces has the BEST sopapillas in town, actually the best I've ever had at any restaurant anywhere I've been, Texas included! Holy smokes, they should find a way to franchise their sopapillas. They are the freakin' best! Check out my pics, and you'll see for yourself. The quality of the food here is terrific. I didn't have that bloated, overfilled feeling like I often get after eating at a Mexican restaurant. The staff and the service is excellent. I have been going here since the restaurant was under a different family name. They were then located in a shopping center at Peoria and I-225. The shopping center was renovating and they landed in another shopping center in Aurora at Iliff and Chambers (NW corner). The 20+ years I have eaten here has never, ...ever been a disappointment. They have the best Green Chile in all of metro Denver. Food is always excellent and at a real fair price. The staff is marvelously attentive. You get fresh chips and salsa at your table when you arrive. The menu is extensive and it's all delicious (with the exception of Menudo, which I prefer not to want to try). Delicious refreshing salsa. Fresh made chips. You know the chips are good when they make the paper bag greasy. Ordered ahead of time "to go." Green chili was not the best. Very tomato-heavy. Could have used pork. Not very spicy. There was an extensive menu. The iced tea was strange tasting. Not sure it was fresh brewed. Decent Mexican Restaurant on the corner of Chambers and Iliff in Aurora. My son recently moved right up the street from this place, and I was visiting him and we both had a hankering for Mexican food, so we decided to try this place out. It was lunchtime and wasn't very busy and we we seated immediately. We were offered chips and salsa and the salsa was decent. I ordered a shredded beef burrito with green chili and my son got a large combo platter. While not the best Mexican food I have ever eaten, it was fine and I would return. After my local place started to go down hill, I was on the hunt for a new Mexican restaurant to go to. Saw this place on TikTok and decided to give it a go. I am glad I stopped in because it was well work the drive and $. The restaurant was clean and well decorated. My party was promptly greeted and seated. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious! Everything tasted homemade, was well seasoned, and as if there were no shortcuts taken when preparing the food. The portions were hearty. They advertise $2.80 breakfast burritos that cone with egg, potato, cheese and green chili. It's a dollar each if you want to add extra bacon, sausage or something else. My standard order for us is 2 burritos no potato, no green chili, add bacon and 1 burrito regular add bacon. Each time I've gone the price has varied from $14 !change to $15 or $16 and change. and I get told something different. Sometimes I have to pay extra because I ask for no potato and they add extra egg. Or sometimes I have to pay extra if I just want the green chili on the side. It's the closest place to me so I just shrug and pay. The last 2 times I got to work and there was no bacon on any of them. The lady was nice and they remade them. Yesterday I call to tell them and the lady says she can't find the order, and did I order it like that. Well yes, you repeated it back to me 3 times during the phone conversation. So she finally says well qhat do you want to do bring them back or what? Before I could reply she says..."Well hurry up and tell me because I'm busy..." Delivery via GrubHub most often arrives with contents spilled out over everything in the bag. The "potatoes" have, until today, been home fries... suddenly now a measly portion of frozen hash browns and over priced. The breakfast burrito is soggy, having been soaked in the bag in spilled out chili and eggs are undercooked so slimey. The chili is barely there and some of the chicharrones are rancid which happens often. My husband enjoys what he orders but I will not be eating anything from this place ever again. I've been going to this family owned restaurant for several years and I think the pork green chili is the best I've ever had!! You can build a restaurant around their green chili, it's that good! I always order the same combination plate, Chile Relleno, beef taco, guacamole tostada and cheese enchilada, I love it! Man I'm pretty upset right now. I just had the worst fish fillet from this place . Literally had 1/2 a bite and spit it out... some shit called swift fish. What really pissed me off is our waitress acknowledged I didn't touch it and did not take it off my tab . I love that they aren't stingy with the pork within either. I usually purchase a dozen of tamales & a quart of there VERY YUMMY/authentic Green Chili which by the way is kind of Orange in color but that's the way it's suppose to be. First time eating there, food was excellent and the wait staff was friendly and on point.

I'm going to call this "Gateway Mexican Food", meaning that it's familiar enough to open up a new world of cuisine to someone whose normal diet consists of bananas, rice, applesauce and tea. As I ate my Huevos Rancheros this morning I was thinking, "This isn't bad, but it's as if my Midwestern grandma was trying to make me a Mexican breakfast." I've never before encountered a Huevos dish that wasn't drowning in green chili - here, they gave me such a small amount splashed neatly over my eggs that I had to order an extra side of it so that I didn't have to eat my tortillas dry. Everything had a good flavor but was far more mild than I'm accustomed to (and that includes the breakfast burritos at Good Times!) I was at least happy to see that the green chili was the neon orange gravy kind that is somehow so much yummier than the purportedly "better" stuff that everyone's switching over to these days! Looking around the place, my suspicions were confirmed: I was the only person under 55 in there than was not part of the waitstaff, and most of the breakfast crowd looked to be ok the same "perm and roller set" crowd that my grandma belongs to. That being said, aside from having the gall to charge me extra for some undercooked and colorless diced potatoes that look like they came straight out of a frozen bag, the food was okay. For breakfast you can't beat the Huevos con Chorizo, and for Lunch or Dinner - our favorite is the Hamburger Steak and the chicken or beef flautas. But all the food is served hot and is tasty.
