Really nice location. Very easy to get to. We were seated promptly for being a group of nine. The guacamole was delicious. I think my only complaint was the drinks. The sangria was so strong, my friend couldn't drink it. Someone else order a different drink that she struggled to drink because it was over powering on the alcohol. The food was good over all. I came here with friends who are regulars. The owner and staff were super friendly. The food was amazing. I got the carne asada. It was a lot of food, and there was a great variety. One of my favorite Mexican sauces is mole which i am used to having with chicken. The carne asada plate came with enamoladas, 2 cheese enchiladas with mole. These were amazing, and i would totally get a dinner of this. I'm not a fan of chicken enchiladas. I live cheese enchiladas. So this was perfect. The steak was cooked perfectly. Had a great experience dining in at Las Gardenias. It is an upscale and intimate restaurant with delicious authentic Mexican cuisine . The staff was very kind and attentive, which we appreciated. My passionfruit cocktail was really good and I love that they serve chips&salsa to start. I tried two different tacos off the à la carte menu in addition to a side of rice. This spot is so amazing, such a cozy and romantic vibe. Parking is not fun, though. The food is delicious, I don't think I've ever had a homemade corn tortilla this good. The frozen house marg was good, very strong. I love how they have THC drinks. The bistec and la costra tacos were HEAVENLY. The Mexican rice was also very good. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for weeks, I called and they had same day availability. It's more of a Fine Mexican restaurant with great staff and wonderful ambiance. We tried this New Mexican restaurant located next to Aperitivo today just to check it out and the food was quite flavorful. We began with the chips and salsa (on the house - yay!) which was delicious and tried the 3 taco plate which hit the spot. My only "complaint" is that there isn't much of a variety of vegetarian appetizers or entrees. Otherwise, good, tasty food and a cocktail menu to try next time we stop by. A bit pricey, but not exorbitant. There's a small and cozy patio on the south-facing area of the building, which should be nice for an evening meal and/or drinks. Attentive service too. read more

We were excited to try this new restaurant just blocks from the public market. It's nicely decorated inside and cute in the patio area. I might have not seen it, but they should really have a sign letting guests know it is extremely loud and screechy outside when a train goes by. I wouldn't recommend eating outside if the train track screeching noise bothers you. The service was slower and you can tell they are newer but they were friendly. The tacos were so delicious and bigger than expected, definitely worth it! The enchilada was okay, lacking some flavors. If I go back, I would get the tacos again for sure. I'm excited to see the next time I go back how they have improved! read more

Pati and Richard have a true gem here. They are the owners of Apretivo next door and decided to make an upscale Mexican restaurant as the neighboring sister space next door. The space is beautiful and has a great patio area outside. They have a vast variety of great tequilas, one of the more extensive selection that I've seen in the city. They do right by both their aguachile plates. I have not had a similar aguachile plate anywhere else. Its fresh, raw, and spicy. The staff is extremely friendly and very attentive. Our first time visiting Gardenias on Plankinton. The setting and ambiance are truly inviting. Classy yet comfortable. We met the owner - Patricia who is a total delight. She told us the recipes for her dishes come from her Mother. Our choices were prepared perfectly, bursting in flavor and held true to her Mother's vision. Our server - Joshua was a hoot and very efficient. At one point, I dropped some Mole Sauce on my beige sweater and he came running with a fluffy white towel and club soda. Really loved our whole experience here! First and foremost, the food is excellent. The menu is unique and elevated compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area (not a knock on them...I love all Mexican food!), and had several dishes I hadn't seen elsewhere. Chips, salsa, guacamole, entrees (enchiladas and carne asada), everything was top notch, had complex flavor profiles, and was portioned and plated perfectly. Absolutely love it, the drinks are very inventive, and also quite delicious. Try the El Elote it's an absolutely wonderful cocktail with complex, but approachable flavors. To start I usually go with the choriqueso; which is one of the best things I've ever dipped a tortilla in, or the tuetano y salsa de molcajete which is so rich and flavorful. For an entree the tamales verdes con pollo are my go to; unless I'm in the mood for tacos and then I'm just getting three camarones al achiote that sikil p'aak salsa packs the perfect punch to complement the shrimp. Oh and check out the salsa flight it'll be worth it. Everything is made fresh and packed with flavor. If you're looking for an upscale vibe with traditional flavors, this is an absolute must try. You will be in for a treat at Las Gardinias! Owner, Patricia, brings her family recipes to Milwaukee from her native Guadalajara and they are as authentic as they are delicious. I ordered the Chilito de Puerco--bone-in pork chops, slowly cooked in a tomato and chile sauce until the meat fell off the bones. Patricia explained that this dish was prepared by her grandmother for the family dinner each Sunday. Even the simple corn tortillas, hand made from the finest ingredients, were the best I have ever had. I had a mezcal margarita, but I took note of the variety of excellent and well curated tequilas and mezcals, unique cocktails, Mexican made spirits and beer at the bar.
