Food: First-time visit. We're new to the area and have driven past La Cabaña many times, so we decided it was finally time to stop in. As soon as we were seated, we were served a complimentary basket of chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and slightly warm. The salsa was good, although I personally prefer a chunkier style. To start, my wife ordered a Dos Equis, and I tried the house Paloma. It was an excellent cocktail, although at $12.48 it felt a little pricey. We also ordered the fresh guacamole, which was very good. It had a nice chunky texture and fresh flavor, although I think it could have used just a touch more salt. For our entrées, my wife ordered the Pastor Tacos, and I chose the Drunken Tacos, one each with shrimp, shredded beef, and chorizo. The Pastor Tacos were unfortunately the biggest disappointment of the meal. The pork was dry and lacked the juicy, well-marinated flavor I usually expect from al pastor. Adding some of the guacamole definitely helped. They came with double tortillas, but unlike many great al pastor tacos, there wasn't enough juice to justify them. My Drunken Tacos were a mixed bag. The shrimp and chorizo tacos were both excellent, with plenty of flavor. The shredded beef taco, however, was fairly bland by comparison. Each entrée came with generous portions of rice and beans. While everything was served hot, the presentation could have been better. Some of the food looked as though it had simply been dropped onto the plate. A little more attention to plating would have made the meal feel more polished. Service: We received a friendly greeting when we arrived and asked for a table on the patio. Our server, Shaylinne, took great care of us throughout the meal. She was friendly, attentive, and helpful with our order. The service was consistently excellent. Atmosphere: We spent our visit on the outdoor patio. There were plenty of tables, and it wasn't very busy. Even though the patio sits in the middle of a shopping center parking lot, it was surprisingly quiet and made for a pleasant place to enjoy dinner. There were a few families with young children nearby, but everyone was respectful, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Overall, La Cabaña is a good choice if you're looking for a traditional Mexican restaurant. Some dishes really stood out, while others were surprisingly bland or lacked attention to detail. I'm glad we stopped in, but based on this visit, it probably wouldn't be my first choice for Mexican food in the area. read more

I personally love this place! Service is always good, fast, and nice. Tables and seats were clean inside, and the outdoor area was very cute. I got a chicken quesadilla, the last time i was here I got the enchiladas, both great!! Perfect serving sizes. My boyfriend had gotten the Mahi Mahi tacos and said they weren't the best, so maybe order something else. Great place overall though read more

While in town, we decided to try "La Cabana", because of its great reviews. I like that they had "huaraches", and the food was OK...but if you are looking for all the flavors and spices, this is not it. It's not "it" either if you are looking to connect with your paisanos. We had visited La Cabana shortly perhaps a decade ago and were favorably impressed. On a rare occasion to travel this rout we decided to return. Remodeling has left the café with less room between tables, but it is still clean, modern, and comfortable. The menu is amply populated with the customary fare and moderately priced. Service is good, and food is flavorful. I would have liked Pico de Gallo and sour cream with my burrito; but then I didn't ask for it, so I cannot complain. With the plethora of Mexican (Tex-Mex) restaurants in SE Wisconsin, this is a good one, but there are better. Will I revisit? Certainly, but I would not likely go out-of-my-way. read more

A group of friends and I ordered take out from La Cabana on a Saturday night. I can't comment about what they thought, so my review will only cover my meal. My portion of the order consisted of a build your own combo with a chicken chimichanga and a shrimp mini burrito with extra rice instead of refried beans. I also ordered a fish taco ala carte. Very few of the items on their online menu list what exactly comes in each item. For example, the fish taco didn't have any sort of description beyond the name "fish taco". To be safe, while ordering online I selected no to all of the following items for each of three things I ordered: beans, cilantro, guacamole, jalapeno, onion, and tomato. I also specifically selected "American style" for my fish taco, which I assumed would include lettuce and cheese. The fish taco certainly wasn't "American style" if your definition of "American style" is like what comes on a fast food taco. Instead of lettuce and cheese the taco had cabbage, pico de gallo, and some sort of sauce. I picked out as much of the tomato from the pico de gallo as I could, but I could still taste some cilantro. It wasn't bad, but disappointing considering what I thought I was ordering. The chicken chimichanga was good. I only noticed cheese inside besides the chicken so it wasn't super adventurous, but I liked the marinade of the chicken. Similar to the fish taco, the shrimp mini burrito wasn't made how I ordered it. There was lettuce and cheese inside, but tomato as well. I unwrapped the mini burrito and picked out all of the tomato, but unfortunately the flavor of tomato had already absorbed into everything else and was too noticeable as I ate the mini burrito. Not thrilled about that. The rice was good. Not special by any stretch, but nothing wrong with it either. read more

Both orders came with, and goes completely downhill from here, only 2 pieces of fish, each piece the size of a child's middle finger, which is what Im rating, this. 2 potato pancakes-ok. A teaspoon of coleslaw and a teaspoon of tartar. Was disconnected 3 times, placing order. Have supported LaC since they opened years ago. Reported great and bad experiences. Defended and supported them during Covid. Spouse able,to stop,here more than I and says it feels like family. I,do not share those emotions. Myself and the general public are not here to finance a living wage environment. Server jobs have and always will be ENTRY level positions with few exceptions. NOT FULL TIME, With benefits careers. This is a little spot we found while out and about. The place is welcoming and I am sure hopping in summer time as the outdoor area looks fun. We were greeted and seated quick. Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Chips were warm and paired with a bowl of salsa and another bowl of pico. We ordered a side of queso and it was good. I ordered a combo with beef enchilada, chimichanga and taco. The appearance of was good and paired with sides of beans and rice. I would recommend the combo. My son ordered a burger and fries. The fries were good but the bun on the burger was soggy. This is the reason for 4 star. It was like they tried to butter it or something and didn't let it toast fully? This was a last minute evening out and I'm so glad I chose this place! We went in July 2020 and dined outside. The outside seating is just on a sidewalk in a strip mall which was ok, nothing special. The staff were nice, nothing over the top, just there to do their job! The food is what I really enjoyed- I got the salad and it came with a mini quesadilla. The salad was so delicious, full of flavor and so filling! The quesadilla was a great addition too. We also got mango margaritas which were not too sweet which I liked, and a just right amount of alcohol. I recommend this spot for some flavorful, filling food! read more

Stopped for lunch and our meal started out with some complimentary chips and salsas which were both very tasty, especially the spicy. We tried a few different menu items although my wife just loved the Camarones Al Ajo with garlic shrimp. Our waitress was very pleasant, we will definitely be back again. read more

I'm new to the state and my boyfriend and myself have been looking for authentic Mexican food for awhile now. We decided to pop in and give this place a chance and I am glad we did. The decor gives the place a really cute, but strong Spanish cultural vibe. Some restaurants the waiters come by every 5 minutes it feels like and it can be overbearing, this place the waiters were very good at knowing when to come by and ask how we're doing, filling our glasses when they looked empty etc. very good customer service experience. The food was terrific. I usually hate beans, but there's something about authentic beans that changes everything. I could write a paragraph just about the beans alone. You get a plateful of what you pay for and as frugal as I am I can't complain about the price with the amount of food we took home. Another part I feel like I have to add is the margaritas. They were a bit on the stronger side but they didn't make you feel like you were drinking straight liquor. I personally like more fruity flavoring but I would drink it again. read more

We ordered carry out by way of phone. The girl I spoke with was nice but assumed I wanted my order immediately, instead of a 3 hours pick up. I didn't like her demeanor on the phone, she should of asked instead of chiding me. My order was ready exactly at the time I requested and everything was correct and it was hot. I liked that when I was ready to pay, the girl asked if I wanted to order a margarita to go, good idea. I like the option to get black beans instead of re-fried beans. Our food was good, portions were ample, and prices were fair. My only complaint was that the food was on the bland side and needed more seasoning. I will return and next time ask for more spice We returned last night and the food is still bland. When ordering, I requested more spice as Al, the owner suggested and it tasted the same. We decided to try the Friday fish fry, and It was mediocre at best. The FISH is all you can eat, but the sides fries or potato pancakes or rice and beans are not... The batter on the fish was not crispy, like it had been sitting under a light... It was loud and the waitress never checked if we needed more items. We could have used more water, tartar sauce (it seemed like mayo really), and butter. There was no salt on the table, so we grabbed it from a vacant table. Overall, I would not recommend it for the Fish Fry, but all of the Mexican cuisine looked good. read more

This was my second time eating here in the past year. The first time was better honestly. Not sure if it was a different bartender than the usual, but the first time my on the rocks margarita with Casamigos blanco tequila was perfectly balanced. Strong but not sweet. This time it was overly sweet, which not my favorite (truth time, it didn't stop me from having three). The bartender was very friendly and service was quick. I ordered the chimichangas with shrimp and they were really good! Cheesy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The shrimp was flavorful inside. My meal came with refried beans and rice. The beans were good but there was cheese sprinkled on top and not melted, which was odd. The rice was your average Mexican style rice, nothing spectacular. My friend ordered the taco Tuesday special and said her beef and chicken tacos were delicious. She also wasn't a fan of the margaritas. I'd stop here again but maybe just order my tequila on the rocks with a squeeze of lime. read more

We like to try local restaurants when we travel. Saw the cars in the parking lot and decided to try it. So glad we did! Extensive menu of choices with or without a Mexican twist. I had the breakfast tacos with rice and beans. My husband had the Benedict burrito. Both were delicious! Servers were very friendly. Prices are reasonable. I have always wanted to come here because of the excellent reviews, so tonight we made it happen. I really wanted to like this place, but the food was horrible. I got the Drowned Tacos -- the chicken was dry and flavorless and had almost no seasoning. Not even the rice and beans had any flavor or seasoning. I had to add a considerable amount of salt & pepper. My husband got the Fish Tacos and he said they had zero flavor at all. The chips and salsa were good, however. We also liked our waiter. Those were the two positives. I am not sure if it was the Monday night kitchen crew only that struggled to get the food right, but something was very off. I must admit, I am floored by how many people say this tastes like authentic Mexican food. You need to visit Mexico asap, because this is boring American food made to look Mexican. It Looks like mexican food, but the flavor is definitely not Mexican. For the love of the art, please discover your Mexican flavors and spices? We ordered a burrito, steak tacos, vegetable fajitas, and cheese/chips. Pros: All the food was pretty, accurate, and delivered to our home, super plus on service (albeit slow, but very friendly). Cons: everything tasted bland. Like, the cook doesn't even know how to salt, pepper, or add any spices or peppers to the dish (cumin is a thing, and you should consider its placement in your recipes.) Steak tacos only came with the very bland flank steak (where was the marinade?), and some onions and cilantro. Why was there no cheese? Why was the steak unseasoned? Cant even throw a lime wedge in to flavor it with something? Also - add some sort to Mexican crema to this plate, would go a long way in adding to the complexity of the dish. The burrito and the veggie fajita same situation - contained zero flavor complexity. And since when do you serve fajitas without any cheese? Then there is the cheese and chips. You have the consistency down for cheese, but again - not an ounce of flavor! For the love of peppers; grill a few poblanos and put those babies in your cheese!! In a nutshell, this was my 2nd attempt with this restaurant, i will not be back, unless you take a serious look at your recipes (or get a new cook?) And make some adjustments. read more

I always enjoy my visits to La Cabana! This is a small, hometown place that actually used to be a Greek brunch restaurant. This place has your basic Mexican restaurant decor and there's plenty of seating. I've never had to wait for a table. The service is always friendly, a little slow, but then again sometimes it's nice to not be rushed out of restaurants. The food has always been decent - at one point I did get a very cold meal, but they replaced it promptly! They also have really great margaritas! Can't complain about that. I love their tacos and carnitas as well. Overall, you can't really go wrong here. I recommend stopping in! read more

Wouldn't exactly consider this to be even remotely authentic, but it is a welcome addition to the area and I wish them success. Having lived in Mexico for many years, I know this particular style of food appeals to gringos (load on the cheese and sour cream, skip the beans)... I actually ordered the spinach quesadilla and asked for broccoli on the side rather than rice and EXTRA beans. The spinach broccoli goof up inside the quesadilla was actually so fresh and good I suggested they add it to the menu! Judge my Mexican dining options on their beans and sorry, they didn't pass the test. But I really did enjoy the quesadilla. The prices are reasonable here and they serve breakfast (pecan waffles sound yummy), lunch and dinner with a fully stocked bar and friendly staff with a lot of daily specials. read more

The Margaritas are very good. Food comes out too fast from kitchen for one to enjoy chips and drink. I would love to see the better quality chips being served. My biggest complaint is that I often have to send my dinner back as it is barely warm.I know they simply keep it on the big plastic plate and microwave it then send it back to me. Microwave and plastic ? Just does not sit well with me. Pretty good food though and service is good. read more
