After searching for the absolute best Mexican food in San Clemente I AM HAPPY TO SAY... we have FINALLY FOUND IT!!!! With an outstanding staff working so hard in the kitchen to get orders made. We were told their guacamole is the absolute best you will ever have. Today we ordered a Machaca burrito and the Fajita Burrito... BOTH was so flavorful that we didn't even need salsa to go with it. Extremely affordable and customer service is outstanding. You have a Counter cashier . Their outdoor tables still aren't set up so you'll be taking your order to go. The people working here are so lazy! They could care less about customer service . Went on a Tuesday around 2pm and one guy was on his phone before he even looked up to see someone was waiting to order . First a comment was made about burning the bread and when we looked over I could see the woman picking off pieces of the burnt piece instead of just making or should I say toasting new bread. When I proceeded to explain that I did not want the burnt bread she had a major attitude and slapped on two new pieces of bread and didn't say anything else just kinda tossed the Torta . I decided to give this place another opportunity as I was taking money out from the ATM next-door it was a big mistake to do so. Never again will I trade anything or eat or for anyone to this place and I am Mexican. The Chile verde taco was a mess! Upon opening I thought to myself " do I really want to eat this". Presentation sucked, it was messy; soggy tortillas: and I've had other good tasting Chile verde items more appealing then here. The carne asada was better looking to eat but. Lacked flavor or seasoning, at least this had Pico de Gallo but no cheese. Tortillas also soggy. I was hungry so only of the asada taco but threw away the Chile verde taco. That's $3.50 in the trash. Love this spot! It is the perfect place to go to grab take out! I love their Enchilada combo with rice and beans. They also have the best tortilla chips. They are super crisp. If you have a group over, you must get their mini bean and cheese burritos! read more

This is a review solely on the business itself. I've been going to this place for years and I have decided I need to finally call them out. We typically order five to seven breakfast burritos, but they won't provide you with a salsa to each burrito. For any order over two burritos, they will charge you for each additional salsa thereafter. So you order five burritos, but they will only give two salsas; each addition salsa is extra. You order $70.00 worth of burritos and they charge you extra for any salsa over the first two....absolutely ridiculous. This is just absurd; BUILD IT INTO THE COST OF THE ITEM...people will absolutely understand that and adjust. It is the only restaurant that I've ever encountered this and absolutely irritates me to no end. I am now considering never to order from this establishment again. Pretty standard, mediocre Mexican food. I've been here several times for bean and cheese burritos and breakfast burritos. Today I was craving fish tacos. Instead of waiting for Pedro's to open, I decided to try out this place's. Again, they were just okay. I ate them shortly after being prepared, but the tortillas were already completely soggy, and they fell apart into a leaky mess as I was eating them. I was just defending this place being a 3 star - food to cost is a great value - usually something is wrong with the order, but this week was something else. Called in 10 minutes before they closed at 8pm, no more orders over the phone. The guy said if I made it before 8pm no problem, they'd take my order. Just go to Lupes in Dana Point. Giving 2 stars because the people are nice and food is good. My order was 6 tacos and they told me fiance they could only give us two 2-ounce salsa containers per order. I understand you can't be giving a quart of salsa away to everyone, but thats not enough for 6 tacos (and this place isn't cheap either). She's too nice to complain about and I wasn't there to talk to management. If (haha I won't unless they fix this) I ever comeback I'll do 6 separate orders so I can get 12 salsas and show management how idiotic that logic is. Also the wait is almost always long, I called ahead of time and it still took 40 minutes to her to get the food (I called at 5:54 and she got her food at 6:34), just to be strong armed into buying more salsa than we need. I've had some pretty bad Mexican food in the past, bust I honestly can't recall ever having Mexican food that was this bad. The tortillas are processed feeling and tasting and DRY. The rice more closely resembles orange chalk than actual rice. The use of meat and cheese beyond WW2 ration quantities and quality has apparently been banned in the kitchen. My order was wrong not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. Service was what you'd expect from tattooed and pierced hispanic gen-Zers; lacking in anything resembling a clue. Between the mind numbing errors and barely edible food, I feel pretty confident that this is the worst Mexican food (take out or otherwise) that I've ever had in any country or decade. I ordered a burrito plate, was perfect, asked for extra flour tortillas, I received 2 that were obviously left over from something because they were hard only one was soft AND they were very small. I also ordered a taco BOWL, I received a bean Tostado loaded. Im from Arizona and South San Diego and I appreciate my mexican food. This is a small location with only a bit of seating outside so plan on taking it to go. Service was nice and the food ready quickly, but I was not a fan of the tacos or tamales. Ordered a large order they gave me two salsas that I had to ask for and then I asked for a few more and they said only two sauces per order so I asked them what if you order for multiple people? They said it's extra so I guess if you're gonna do a large order order them all individually and make them ring them up individually and then you'll get enough sauces for everyone. read more

Tonight we placed a phone order for takeout that included 2 crispy beef tacos. The receipt showed the 2 tacos & we paid for them but unfortunately did not receive them in our takeout order which we realized upon sitting down for dinner. Numerous times over the years we've ordered a dozen beef taquitos & received chicken instead. Also on Taco Tuesday (the tacos have less meat on this day due to the lower price point) it's frustrating when you place an order over the phone yet arrive at the restaurant and still have to wait in a massive line behind people ordering in-person. There are 2 checkout registers where it would be very simple to have 1 cashier for in-person orders & 1 for phone orders & place a sign for each area. We enjoy the food here (California burrito, beef taquitos) yet continue to harbor these operational concerns that are easily addressable. read more
