Fried tilapia w/sides
Edwin C.

Ambiance: 4.8 (reminded me of SD) Service: 4.8 Food: 4.5 Wife's choice on a Friday night and she wasn't wrong. This place when you walk in was full of locals and I felt under-dressed! It brought back memories of my days in San Diego when families would dress up for dinner (typically because Friday was payday). We were greeted with smiling facing and immediately seated, but I think we got lucky since the restaurant was packed bustling with conversation and music. A few moments later a bowl of ceviche with large tostada chips were brought to our table and our drink order was taken: modelo & a mango margarita. After drinks arrived, we order our dinners: fajitas especiales and mojarra frita al gusto al natural (fried tilapia) that both come with a side salad, beans and rice (just your typical sides, not exciting). Each meal is huge so don't be surprised if you're taking home food. The fajitas came out hot but the problem is, it is served on a cast iron plate and continues to still cook your food, so my chicken ended up being dry towards the end but the steak and shrimp were cooked nice and juicy. My wife was in heaven barely talking to me during dinner since she was enjoying her tilapia and margarita. But when she did say something, it was" who are we going to bring here next time"! So looking forward to our next visit! PS the food is lightly seasoned but by the time you add salsa, hot sauce, lime, etc there's so much extra flavor; you can still taste your food.

Camarones al mojo de ajo (shrimp in garlic sauce)

I can't say anything bad about this hole in the wall! My mom had the butter cooked fish and I had shrimp in garlic sauce, both were really good! Authentic food for sure! The refried beans had no cheese in it. Nadia was so helpful and patient with us. She answered all of our questions and gave us explanations of the menu. This is not your traditional Mexican food! It came with ceviche instead of chips and salsa, no guac here. The ceviche was delish! We def will be back!

Pretty good ceviche, pretty interesting music... (why was ed sheeran playing at volume 100) My sister and I visited this fine establishment after spending a day meandering around Sacramento. My car's AC is broken. therefore seafood was the only cure. The journey to get here was long and sweaty and uncomfortable. We were dying. but once we got here and cracked open some DCs, all was fixed. Our food came in a timely manner and was very delicious. We shared the shrimp ceviche and had so much we had to bring some home. The serving sizes are pretty big! Worth it. Once we were ready to leave, we had a bit of trouble getting our waitress' attention.... but we thought it was funny so all is forgiven. overall, good fish, good vibes, good time. #darlingyoulookperfect #ed #cevichelover

Camarones a la kora

Islitas used to be to go to spot for our family for seafood but it seems to have lost its charm over the years. This was the first time we'd been here in probably 2 years and it's nothing compared to what it used to be. We came around noon and there were only about 7 tables occupied and most of them were already eating, however it took 45 minutes to get our food. Myself and my husband each ordered the camarones a la kora plate so nothing super fancy or that would take super long to make. Since it was my husbands lunch break, we had to box up most of our meal because his lunch was pretty much over by the time we got our food. The shrimp was a tad over cooked and lots of them weren't cleaned all the way. Rice was good but the beans tasted horrible. We also got the complementary ceviche and it tasted off and old. They also don't have a soda machine, so you're paying $3 for a canned soda, which if you've read any of my previous reviews is a huge pet peeve of mine. Overall, they still have the best camarones a la kora around but slow service and having to check each shrimp to make sure it's cleaned is a huge factor in returning or not.

Our good friend recommended this place to us so a few of us came to try this place out! It's a very spacious space and the vibes brought me back to Cancun lol. We ordered the Mojarra Frita (Fried Tilapia) Mejillones (Mussels), and a Small parillada (I think that's what it was- assorted shrimp!) The Mojarra Frita was really good, my favorite! It comes with rice, beans, and a side salad and some tortillas. The Mussels were also yummy! And the Assorted Shrimp Platter was my favorite. It came with a deep fried shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp, and shrimp coated in a flavorful lime sauce that was delicious! This place is known for their seafood but they also have other meat options as well! Service was super nice!

I haven't been to this place in years! Last time was when I was a law student. This place has not changed and I am so glad it's still a great place. The staff were super friendly and attentive. When you sit down, you get ceviche and tostadas to snack on, no charge. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was not busy. I ordered the Camarones a la diabla. The sauce was spicy and delicious. You can pick flour or corn tortillas and I got flour. The palate was huge. Tastes just how I remember it. Definitely 5/5 We got the cocktail de camaron to share as an appetizer. I wish there was more Clamato and Chile in it. It was okay. 3/5 I definitely want to come again and get the pineapple shrimp plate or the molcajete to share. Definitely check this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Found out local mariscos spot from home her in Sacramento the food is mostly the same so that es stood all cooks have they own recipes buts it's all kinds the same they had cold beer and good service also. No live music like home but they had music playing on the speakers so that did they job

Parillada de camaron

We went here 8/15 the service was excellent but sadly the food wasn't as before. We ordered the parillada plate and the shrimp agua chile was raw we ended not even eating any of it. The portions as well are smaller. I had a margarita and it tasted like bottled lemon juice with a bit of dish soap. I always look forward to this spot but it was a disappointment this visit.

All las Islitas have a little bit of a different menu! However the fish ceviche is Devine and that's coming from a person who does not eat fish unless it's fish and chips lol so I recommend the fish ceviche 100% which is provided as a complementary appetizer, but I always purchase an additional one because of how delicious it is! But to go past that the shrimp ceviche which is also delicious and gives that fresh taste and perfect to eat on a hot day! They have multiple seafood options on their menu for everyone

Food was to salty didn't even eat my plate. Never again will I come here. They forgot to bring my drinks.

My friend got a seafood boil. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes, which was surprisingly fast. I cut into my steak right away to check the temp, it was extremely rare. Cut into a different part of steak just to make sure, also rare. When I showed our server she agreed it was rare and took it back to the kitchen. She comes back after talking to the kitchen and tells me the cook said its not rare, its just the marinade that makes it look dark. I'm like, "huh?" Cause that made no sense to me. Still they cooked the same steak another 5-7 minutes before bringing it back. Now it was a perfect medium. It was obvious they just threw the same steak back on the grill, the 2 cuts i made were still visible. All was good till our server came back to check on us, she asked how the steak came out, when I said it was perfect, she continues to insist it was medium well when I sent it back based on what the kitchen told her, several times she made excuses and would not once admit or own up to the mistake despite me showing her the cut piece of steak on my plate. I get it, most of the food here is seafood that's boiled in a plastic bag, but if you're gonna sell a 45$ steak on the menu, at least train your staff properly.

The Cajun style seafood boils are consistent, messy in a fun way, and generally satisfying, which is a big part of why this place stays so busy. It's definitely a great spot for groups. The whole setup with the bags of seafood, sauces, and sides makes it interactive and social, and it works well when you've got a table full of people sharing everything. That said, the experience can be a bit uneven. The service is something I've always questioned. It's not always poor, but it's very inconsistent. Some visits feel smooth and attentive, others feel a bit off, especially considering how busy they usually are. Food wise, I've always had a good meal here. Nothing has ever been bad, but it also doesn't really stand out beyond what you'd expect from this style of place. It delivers on the concept without really going beyond it. Overall, it's a reliable option if you're craving a seafood boil or going out with a group, and I understand why it's popular. For me, it lands right in that average category.

The Cioppino was good, I liked the Dungeness Crab and the spicy sausage the most, no complaints there. Dungeness crab cakes were dry and had lots of filler, she only ate one, she also ordered Mashed potatoes which she also said was not good, even after adding some of my Cioppino sauce on them. We asked for the cheque when the waitress came over and she asked "how was it" she also stated to my friend "you barely ate anything" we told her that the crab cakes and mashed potato was dry. The waitress said "well you showed up at 8:45pm just before we close" I then asked "why would they offer a time that was 15mins before closing if that was going to affect the quality of food we received? There was no attempt to offer an apology or maybe remove the uneaten items from our cheque. We requested them to be removed, while walking away she said she'd ask the manager. He removed it, did not come over no acknowledgment when she came back with the new cheque. While walking out we saw the manager and he still didn't acknowledge us.
