To start, as soon as we walked in we noticed many tables and seating spread out nicely so im sure they would be no issues with bumping into the person behind you, the booths were a bit dirty but thats alright. the waitresses were super nice and welcoming, quick to seat us, and they asked whether we wanted a table or booth, of course we chose a booth. The chips and ceviche that with limes that they give as to start were super good, you could absolutely taste the flavor. They're Jamaica was also very good coming from someone who grew up with Jamaica right there. Our food took about 8 minutes to come out, which i personally think is a tad amount of time for a restaurant with only 3 tables not including us, and they all had their food. Everything was going great until until we received our food, our appetizer we ordered came out like if it was our desert, it came out once we finished our actual plates.. my ceviche was supposed to be no spice but it was pretty spicy, the fish was flavorless and the carne asada was flavorless as well. I came here with my friend and her fam and I got the campechana. it was my first time trying it and it was tasty and refreshing! I would've liked for it to be colder but it came with a variety of seafood, cucumbers, in a tomato based sauce. good to eat with chips or saltines. they also give ceviche on the house and it was great and refreshing. If I could give them 0 stars I would. We waited an hour and a half to get seated, there was a horrible system to even place yourself on the waitlist. It is unclear who the server is once you are seated. We were sat for 15 minutes without anyone even approaching us or handing us a menu. Once we did order, it took another half hour to receive the food. We were not checked up on, I almost got up to refill my water myself. As far as food goes, it was mid. Reviewing the taco truck in the Grow west parking lot on East street. Food was ok. Tacos were hot and fresh. Burrito was also good , the torta was not so great. The bread was wrong. The bread was a small Costco roll. The meat and toppings used we just filling the plate. When I picked up the roll everything fell out and on to the plate. Meat was way too salty. Felt like everything was rushed and just tossed together. Truck was not busy. A couple were eating at a table , we placed our order and one other customer was waiting to order. Came here with my mom, brother and sister for dinner last night (4/18/21). Place was packed, but we were seated fairly quickly, & a short time after we were seated one of the servers (female, serving table 1) literally THREW the menus on our table and walked away. Didn't hand them out, didn't say hello, no eye contact, nothing. If you don't want to work, DON'T work. No need to take it out on a paying customer. Despite being served on a styrofoam plate, the complimentary ceviche was very tasty, so ordered the same thing as my entree thinking it was a safe bet. What they brought me could not have been more different. For starters it was warm, 80% tomatoes and tasted as bad & fishy as it smelled. Our waters never came. Now I don't know why this place has such a low rating. I've only been here a few times, but each time was delightful. I can't find anything to complain about when I look back at each time I came, so this place has a thumbs up in my book. Everything I've ordered was always very flavorful, and had just the right amount of seasoning and spice with every bite. Their plates usually come with a mini side salad, beans, and a mini scoop of rice. Now personally, I would like more than a baby scoop of rice. I probably need like 3 or 4x more than what they give. I always have to portion out my meal so I don't run out of rice in the middle of my meal. That would probably be my only complaint, if you can even consider that a complaint. If I could give ZERO stars I would! This place has roaches!!! As I needed a quick bite to eat I stopped by this place as they had outside dining. I ordered 2 tostadas ceviche and an iced tea. Give that it is during the pandemic my drink came in a styrofoam cup with a lid. I start to consume my first tostada and it was spicy so I started to guzzle my tea. My mouth is now on fire and since I've drank all my tea I think I will chomp on some ice to cool my mouth until my server gets me a refill. I lift the lid and I am about to tilt the cup to my mouth to get a peice of ice and wtf do I see? A roach!!!! In my drink. Omg! I felt instantly sick. Didn't touch anything else. Went out to Woodland to try this restaurant. The setting was typical "Covid season" seating. They had misters which was a nice touch to keep you cool in this summer heat. They started with "Ceviche & Chips" which was a nice touch to the typical "Chips & SalsaThe margaritas are pre-made but didn't taste bad like other places that have premade drinks. So I really don't like to give negative reviews. But unfortunately what I saw and heard from the cashier... I think her name is Araceli. Not sure. She was extremely rude on the phone to my mom when she was trying to place an order. We have never had to pay upfront for take out so it was questioned. I went to pick up our order and she was badmouthing some of the employees where everyone could hear her. This is so unprofessional. It seems as if everyone is mad all the time and I ven seen some of the waiters angry at Other staff. The last person that took care of us when we ate outside was very nice he went out of his way to give us great service.I believe his name is Robert . We have loved going here for a long time. I always said no one wants to eat where no ones eating. There was only one other family at a table. The salsas were good, but I had to request them to be brought out. I ordered aguachile,. The portion was small and the aguachile was more like aguaagua. It was not spicy at all. There was no avocado on the plate. Aguachile was very dissapointing. It was nothing but salty shrimp on my plate. Being September 16th, I expected some kind of live music or atleast recognition of Mexican independence Day, but nothing. Oh and let me tell you. We were served on paper plates and surrounded by flies. One hand to eat, one hand to shoo away the flies. This used to be a lively establishment but not anymore. You can't blame the flies on Covid. The meat was spoiled. I came back months later gave it another chance and ordered a shrimp cocktail that tasted like straight up water and when I told the waitress (who was nice) She told the owner and she said that the owner said it was fresh and I have to prepare it myself and if I didn't like it they would prepare me another dish but I would have to pay for the cocktail even if I didn't eat it. I ordered a Carne Asada plate that cost $13.99. I swear they only put about 1/4 cup of rice and beans on our plates. They had paper plates on the dirty table which threw me off. Why have them??? This used to be my favorite seafood spot in town. I stopped going to other Marisco spots in Woodland, due to their lack of good customer service. The food all taste the same, really. I just left this place and will NEVER return. We got chips and ceviche, as usual (Complimentary). The chips were STALE!! I let it slide and didn't complain. Our waiter asked if we were ready and I said we needed a minute. Well, he gave us what seemed to be an hour instead of a minute. He was busy doing some notations behind the register. He also only had one table he was helping. The place was empty. I had to get up and call him, which seemed to bother him. The waiter then goes to our table and avoids eye contact and seems bothered that I had to get him to take our order. Whatever, just give me my food. So I order my Cóctel de Camarón and the guy never brings my crackers which is always paired with a Cóctel. I look for our waiter to ask him to bring me some crackers. He's M.I.A. I waited minutes and he never appeared. Waited and waited.. I had to get another waiter to help us, who also seemed annoyed that I had to ask him for service. What did I do wrong? I went with my mom, we are pretty decent people and never rude. Maybe he didn't like my Misfits shirt with extra long tube socks and shorts? I thought I looked pretty fly! The bill came to 71.00 for 2 caldos, 1 shrimp pasta, and a clamato preparado. When ask if a discount was applied to the bill for the burnt food we were told no, again no initiative taken to take care of your customers. At this point my husband was ready to leave. This is going to be long - sorry in advance. Has the ownership changed? Are there any quality servers willing to work there? What happened to their pre-COVID reliable/good servers? Very disappointed in yesterday's service. We've been coming to this place off and on for several years. We even developed a rapport with one of the servers. We ordered four plates yesterday (three asada tacos with cilantro and salsa on side, shrimp/octopus cocktail, shrimp/octopus cocktail in bowl with no veggies - only avocado, and a camarones a la kora. Simple, right? For starters, the shrimp cocktails were brought out by themselves. No crackers, no lime wedges. And as for the one that was supposed to not have veggies, it had veggies. When my husband reminded our very young and inexperienced server that he didn't want veggies, he simply asked, So do you want me to take it back and take them out? Umm... okay. He takes it back. Next to come out are the three street tacos - by themselves. No sign of salsa or lime wedges. Our server didn't even say anything, he just slid the plate near by daughter's arm and left. We tried to get his attention so he could bring the salsa and lemon wedges and were unsuccessful. We finally managed to get the attention of the old guy walking around with a steno pad. The tacos were nice and cold by this point. When my husband's "revised" shrimp cocktail was brought out (some ten minutes or so after the first one) I asked if he could give me a status on my plate. He couldn't remember what I ordered so I told him. I even asked if he had forgotten to put my order in, to which he said no and walked off. Well it quickly became clear that he had forgotten. My plate came out approximately 25 minutes after being seated, and long after everyone was done eating. I attempted to bring all of this to the attention of the young, rude, and inexperienced cashier. He kept interrupting me and/or answering questions I didn't even ask. When I told him we had been coming here for years and that I wasn't sure how long he had been working there he interrupted (again) and said he and his dad owned the place. So I guess somehow that's supposed to squash any additional commentary I may wish to add? Nope. I paid the bill but told him I would not be coming back. And I will stop referring people to this place. Those were the last $70 I will ever donate to that establishment. read more
