Super hot day decided to go run errands stopped in to have a margarita ! We were greeted immediately when we walked in the door, which is a big plus for me we were seated we were brought menus. We were brought water chips and salsa. We decided that we weren't gonna have lunch or dinner. We just wanted to cool down for a little bit so we only had chips and salsa, water and margaritas. It was a pretty great decision. They had a few TVs on and they were showing women's soccer. We enjoyed watching that and we chitchatted enjoying our time out of the heat. My sister took my mom to this hidden gem and she suggested we meet here for dinner. We live in Denver and close to Federal. This is our new FAVORITE Mexican restaurant!!!! I am so sad my picture of all of our dinners disappeared. I set my phone down to eat and came back..gone. However, I will be back and take another. I will start off with the salsa. Looking at it and then dipping my chip, I'm thinking, this is going to be like tomato sauce..no no no, this salsa is flavorful and slightly spicy, and I LOVE everything spicy. So happy there. We made happy hour and the house small margarita was in a pint glass and good. It didn't taste like sweet and sour mix and it didn't taste like all fresh limes, but I liked it and I am also a picky margarita drinker, so I am starting to feel excited. I asked the server for the spiciest sauce and he said the diabola, I ordered a soft rellano with that. It was salty, but the spice level was sweaty, drink some water Hotl! Matt got the biggest combo. Which we probably could have shared and was a great idea (we could try most everything). Now I have to tell you mexican food, to me- born and raised in Colorado, is all about the chili/sauce (sorry Cali, salsa is good but I don't want my burrito smothered in it) and they did NOT disappoint here..thus my new favorite Mexican restaurant!! Super disappointed with our experience. Seems like the restaurant was prioritizing everyone else, and the drive-through orders. We were a group of 7 adults and 3 children and when we came in, the restaurant was not filled. We ordered, and many other folks came after us. But we noticed they got most of their food, and we were still waiting for our orders. It took us a while to get even our waters. I only ordered guac and chips, and it came out first after 15 minutes of waiting. Everyone was still waiting for theirs. The kids each ordered ice cream, but they haven't got it and they got super impatient. After another 15 minutes of waiting, we just asked if we could get everything to go. When we got into our cars, we realized the ice creams were just packaged blue bunny cups (if they would have just served us those promptly, we wouldn't be so dissatisfied). read more

When my family and I have tried to called the restaurant, they hung up the phone and turn off the phones so we couldn't get hold of them. I'm a regular take-out customer but decided to have breakfast these on Saturday for a change. I had the Potrancas omelet with chorizo, cheese and smothered in their own green chili. WOW!! So delicious and satisfying. And huge. Their green has some heat, not much at the mild level, and great flavor. My companion had Huevos Ala Mexicana. Big portion, perfectly cooked and he raved about it. Our server was warm, efficient and he was always there without being intrusive. He's a pro! I can't understand why we waited almost an hour for a table that was to be ready in around 20 min. There are other Mexican restaurants in Arvada that are much better. First time trying this location and we ordered through Grub Hub. The food was decent, though only slightly warm by the time we got it. The biggest problem is that they made a mistake on the order and then when I called, was told there was nothing they could do. I ordered a side of guacamole for $4.75 and got this: about 2 tablespoons of guacamole and 2 tablespoons of sour cream. When I called to tell them we didn't get the side of guacamole and it was a more sour cream (I don't eat dairy - thanks guys) - I was just told by the guy on the phone that this was correct. So, be warned I guess. If you order a flipping $5 order of guacamole, you get mostly a pile of sour cream. read more

Of course I pop open my handy, dandy Yelp app and locate the nearest Mexican restaurant. Las Potrancas was only a couple of miles away, so off we went. They had limited serving in the dining area, delivery and pickup. Seeing an empty dining room and wanting to shake off some Covid isolation, we opted for the dining room with all the precautions in place. The dining room is very colorful and the service was excellent. My enchiladas with green chili were over the top and I do believe I was served the strongest margarita I've ever had. Las Potrancas sits right off of Wadsworth and 66th and from the outside does not look that great, but has a drive through and a great small and colorful atmosphere inside. My husband and I have had a hard time finding good Mexican food in Arvada or Westminster; but this place is by far hands down one of the best! The salsa and green chili are spicy and flavorful and the menu selection is abundant! Today I tried the nagon burrito, a burrito with roasted green chili sauce and a queso topping filled with grilled caramelized chicken and topped with quacomole. I'm giving this place 5 stars, not because it's like dining at Elway's or the Edge in downtown Denver but because it's our favorite go-to Mexican place in our neighborhood. Locally owned and operated with two locations in Arvada, Las Potrancas is delicious and has something for everyone! We've lived in Arvada for three years and eat here at least once a month. We get the same server, a very nice gentleman who is friendly, speedy and attentive. And to our surprise, was the same guy who delivered our order when we ordered last night! He showed up at our door and we were so excited we almost invited him in. The chips and salsa are plentiful when you dine in, you can get full and happy (and drunk, if that's what you're looking for!) on Sundays with their all day happy hour menu and their menu is huge! We usually split the camarones apretalados and another dish and usually have enough left over for a whole meal. Last night we did the 3 enchiladas meal which was good. Check this place out, whether you dine in, take out, order delivery or do their drive through (this is definitely not fast food though). Restaurants that can stay in business right now are doing the best they can and the best they know how to continue serving their customers, if you just want to complain on here about that, don't eat out right now, expecting the same service as before a year ago. When I walked in I felt like visually I was hit by a kaleidoscope of colors! The tables. The chairs! It was all of a sudden a sunny day despite the fact that it was dinner time. They've been here 14 years. There's a second location somewhere that opened two years ago. Menudo! I am a menudo chaser. I'm not sure if this is my last stop and I won't chase anymore. Their menudo is really good but there might be others around :) I found out that Denver is a thriving city for such a chase. I'm excited! Currently this is my thing. This is a cozy spot. They used all the square footage they have and jammed their colorful tables and chairs. Inquiring minds were told that all the tables and chairs that I so admire is from Mexico. We walked in to a busy night. We were immediately sat at a communal table. The server is friendly and very accommodating. We ordered and I looked around and the crowd is varied but I can tell they were all truly enjoying their food. Families with kids seem to be the theme of the night. Slow clap finally my OG Las Potrancas is back!!! We stopped going and ordering out about 6 months or more ago. I dreaded calling in an order because they where so rude and seemed like teenagers where running the show. My very large order was wrong ( it happens) when I pointed it out the boy told me to somewhere else if I wasn't happy! The food seemed to get bland and cheap tasting and the price going up. My husband said let's give them another try. This restaurant is in my neighborhood and convenient and we have been going there for over 15 years! It's back and better then ever! I called and got a very pleasant adult we confirmed my order, went and got it from the same very respectful pleasant gal and had a fabulous breakfast burrito. Good job and keep this going this way! I have been a customer of this restaurant for as long as it's been open. the food and service has always been excellent. Today I received brown guacamole, fatty carnitas which were dark brown on the ends and dry, and stale tortillas. When I asked for a little more green chili to put on my take home food since it was dry I was given about 4 ounces of chili and was charged $4.50 for it. I asked for a refund of the $4.50 and both the front desk woman and my server said since I ordered it I couldn't return it. I just wanted a little more chili and the server said "do you want a side"? I agreed not knowing it was so much. Eventually the server gave me $5 and told me to "get out". What happened to customer service here? My experience today was so upsetting and disappointing that i won't go back. Maybe the two folks I dealt with don't care they are losing a long time customer but I would hope the owners would. If I hadn't been treated so poorly when I asked for a refund, I could have understood the food was a one time problem. But the way they treated me was appalling, all over $4.50!!! read more

We went in yesterday after passing by it every day for the year since we moved here. We're happy we did! First, their horchata is amazing! Best we've had in Denver or Arvada. The salsa they bring with the chips is good, and they have a variety of other salsas listed at the back of the menu. Our waiter let me sample the Monterrey. It was good and spicy. Really the only recommendation is that they make some sort of salsa sampler appetizer because each salsa was $4 (other than the one with the chips). We also ordered the queso. Generous portion size and delicious. We were almost too full to eat our meals at that point. I got a combination that included a chile relleno, carnita burrito, and chicken enchilada. I wish I would have just gotten the Chile relleno, as it's the best I've ever had. The other items were good too, but paled in comparison to the Chile. My boyfriend got the enchilada plate- one of each. He liked the cheese one best. We will definitely make this our Mexican food go-to in Arvada. Can't wait to try more salsas!! read more

The food is good but I won't be going here again. They need someone that speaks and understand English. We really enjoyed our family visit last Sunday. The place is brand new and has a very cool new bar to enjoy! Will have to belly up soon to try a Margarita! They have an excellent display of all their high quality tequilas! Love it! It does still smell like fresh paint in there but you get over that quickly. We found the food to be very good quality at a reasonable price. We had the Fajitas! Not bad at all. My daughter had a burrito she said was very good but a little skimpy on the green chili sauce. Varied menu with something for everyone. My crispy chili relleno was so fresh and came smothered with green chile, covered with melted cheese, topped with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, onion and truly crunchy. Spicy! Today my daughter noticed a Las Portrancas coupon on the back of our King Soopers receipt so we thought that was a great excuse to go out to lunch. I read the coupon, fine print and all and we were good to go! Order two entrees, two drinks, and get 1/2 off an entree. But they wouldn't accept the coupon. The manager said it was for dinner only even though the coupon said nothing about lunch/dinner. They absolutely refused to honor their own coupon so I ended up paying more than I expected.
