Very unique spot...interestingly situated in the heart of Sandy Springs (not terribly far from some fine dining establishments) but more immediately, in a strip mall. A few seconds after you enter, you realize that you're in a cultural oasis more authentic than the local Mexican embassy. Everything from the employees to the menu to the clientele emanates a different vibe. Note: This is location #8 out of approximately 11. You can wait in line and order whatever you'd like to get from their reasonably extensive menu. I would not expect tons of customizations from this place. And if you need to ask a question in English...you might as well be speaking Greek to them. This is who they are...so best not to complain. When in Rome... They are known for tortas...but I got the huaraches (oval shaped masa base topped with various ingredients, depending on the item you order). Enjoyed it as it was a hearty start to the meal. Also got the guacamole...it was fine...but what I appreciated most was the condiment bar, where a panoply of unique sauces and vegetables were available for the taking...many of which complement the food that you can order. I really wanted to like this place since I drive past it all the time. The spot is a bit rundown with just a few tables and chairs. It seems like most people get their food to go. I ordered the carnitas and asada tacos and both meats were dry, bland, and portions were small that it felt like scraps. The tortillas were dry and stale as well. For $4 a taco I expected waaaay more. The salsa bar was underwhelming too. The salsas were just as bland. I left extremely disappointed. Really good authentic Mexican place. You should probably know a little bit of Spanish if you go here because a majority of the customers were Spanish speaking and so were the workers. Parking was not an issue on a weekday. It's located in Sandy springs but not that far from Buckhead on a weekend (about 10 mins from Lenox). I really like the food. Aesthetic wasn't that great but honestly I would totally come back here for the causal setting and delicious tacos. One star rating for being deceptive with prices. As we were ordering at the order counter two nights ago, I noticed that the prices we were being charged weren't matching the prices on the menu, which is basically an electronic TV monitor. When I noticed the price discrepancies and told the cashier, she told me that the prices were changed in the system and that she can't do anything about the prices (which is a lie, she could've made adjustments or just charged the prices that are still displaying on the posted menu). One of my pet peeves is deceptive business practices, such as, in this case, businesses not letting customers know that prices went up while hoping that the customers don't notice that they've been charged higher prices. While I understand that businesses sometimes need to increase prices, they should let customers know up front that the prices were increased, such as posting a notice that everyone can read, or, even better yet, update the prices displayed on their menu (novel idea, right?). We left before completing our order. Deceiving customers is a horrible way to do business. read more

If you want a great fresh meal in Sandy Springs come here. The food was authentic and a great value. My wife had the chorizo taco and al pastor taco. We shared a cheese dip and I had the flauta with beef. All was great. My only reason for 4 stars is the cleanliness and speed of service were a little below what I believe a place at this price point can offer. There are things I saw on the website listed that I did not see on the board at the restaurant, like the Tortas. It's a simple order at the counter and pick up restaurant like a typical QSR. I ordered the Nortena Torta along with some chips and salsa. This thing came packed with cheese, avocado, the breaded steak, lettuce, and tomatoes. I had never had steak prepared like this but was really impressed with it and how all the ingredients worked together. I've had tortas and tacos here. I forgot to take a picture of the tacos I had on this last visit but perhaps I'll get it next time. Their prices are super reasonable, with tacos at just a couple bucks each, and you can expect your meal under $10. The horchata is smooth and creamy and the other juices are very sweet. I rarely get beverages as I'm looking to avoid sugar highs these days. Anyway, the staff is friendly and the food is timely. If you want real Mexican food, you gotta try this place out. Las Tortas Locas is a Mexican fast food chain with at least four locations in metro Atlanta. While "tortas" is in the name, this chain serves more than just Mexican sandwiches. They also serve tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and huaraches (similar to sopes) along with desserts like flan. The restaurants are nicer than your typical authentic Mexican taqueria (e.g. El Taco Veloz, Tacos La Villa, Taco T). They actually have a formal build-out that is Mexican-themed. The semi-open kitchen features a huge spit in the same vein as a Greek gyro spit or a Middle Eastern shawarma spit. On Las Tortas Locas' spit is al pastor meat (pork). Atmosphere is casual and clientele is mostly Hispanic. Tortas are the specialty and range in price from $5-6 each. There are over 20 tortas (!) to choose from. Ingredients run the gamut from white cheese to head cheese. Tacos are $2 each and can be filled with any one of a half dozen types of meat. Think more of the basic stuff like beef barbacoa and chorizo sausage. They do have lengua (tongue), but no tripe. Burritos, quesadillas, and huaraches are about $5 each. Lunch combos are available as well. I've tried the Pastor con Queso ($5.50) and it was delicious. The tortas are big. One torta should suffice as a meal. The Pastor con Queso contained al pastor meat (marinated roast pork off the spit) with red sauce, cheese, tomatoes, jalapenos, lettuce, onion, and avocado. The best thing about the sandwich: everything. All of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful, from the meat to the bread to the veggies. All sandwiches are made-to-order so that's a plus. The meat was a little fatty, but that's also one reason why it tasted so good. Tender and savory. The bread was soft and perfectly toasted. It held the large sandwich together well. The slices of avocado just made the sandwich that much sweeter. The tacos and burritos looked very good. I'll probably try their tacos next time. They have a full fledged salsa bar with a half dozen salsas, peppers, onions, veggies, and lime. It looked fresh, well-stocked, clean, and healthy. Service is fast and efficient. There may be a bit of a language barrier, though. Overall, Las Tortas Locas has given me a good impression and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, affordable, and authentic Mexican meal. read more

They have an amazing salsa bar with salsa, pickled veggies, fresh radish and fresh cucumber. The asada was a bit tough. The lengua was under seasoned. The chicken was a bit dry. This location of Las Tortas can be found in a shopping center on the right traveling North outside the perimeter. The sign outside reads "Las Tortas Locas" - I've seen several of these around town, at least half a dozen in my travels but this is the first I've ventured into. This is more of a lunch place and by the look of all the Hispanic speakers, very popular with that crowd. I'd rate this as slightly above fast food - more like what you would receive at Willy's or other lunch-counter order places with better quality ingredients and minimal service. Las Tortas translated means something like "cake" or "pie" and it's apparently slang for a sandwich - perhaps something a bit foreign to many Latino cultures. These sandwiches remind me a bit of the famous Cuban pork/ham sandwich of which I'm a huge fan. We hit this location (a group of 6 or so) during lunch - there was already a line forming up at the counter where you order - the menu is on a board above the counter. Roughly divided into: Tortas Sencillas, Flautas, Tortas Especiales, Tortas Combinadas, Tortas Locas, Tacos, Burritos and Pambazos. We tried a variety of items to get a feel for the place, most things on the menu are super cheap. We started off with a fairly decent horchata - if you haven't tried one of these rice-based drinks with vanilla, cinnamon and milk, they're basically the equivalent of a milkshake, with less cold. My favorite are the coconut version from Puerto Rico, especially good with a bit of rum (but that's neither here nor there). * Lunch Special Taquitos - three chicken taquitos served with black beans and rice * Loca Salad with Chicken - I had this - it was good but next time I'll try a whole sandwich - campesina or al pastor, por favor... * Veggie Casadilla - always one vegetarian in the crowd - luckily they were able to accommodate.... * Chicken Burrito - a bit dry but offset with plenty of tomatilla verde... * Campesina Tortas - I feel like this sandwich was the star of the show - awesome flavors and very filling. The staff speaks English and they have a larger menu and salsa bar compared to carniceria los pinos and the tables and the restaurant overall is much cleaner. We came here when los pinos was out of chicken. The hubby suggested this place and I was a little skeptical when he said it was just as good and would hit the spot for my taco craving. After trying them out, I would say I like this place more just because they have more of a variety especially with all the delicious sauces and service is much quicker.
