I was so disappointed with Lassen Steak House we always heard about how delicious their food was it honestly was not! The prime rib was 3/4 fatty I couldn't eat it. I complained to the server she apologized and her response was oh sorry it does tend to be that way and walked away. The salad was fresh and the loaded mash potatoes were delicious. When you come to eat here you will find out howmuch of an excellent cook your husband is on the grill or BBQ. Hubby bought the TBone steak which was thin and tasteless and resembled syscos TBone steaks an exact match. My prime rib I asked for medium came raw and undercooked medium mean a bit of red in the center not raw!!! Or rare!! So disappointed because the server , water, and yeast buns were great!!!! Grossly over seasoned steak. My New York steak was caked with what tasted liked Costco's Montreal Steak Seasoning. So salty that I lost my appetite for anything else that evening. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said other people had also complained about the chef. They remade my steak, but I couldn't eat it as I still had such a bad taste in my mouth. I had never before in my life sent back food in a restaurant, nor been so embarrassed at having made reservations for my extended family. Such a bummer! We were really excited to try LSH after several friends raved about it. Unfortunately, our experience and food was not good overall. Pros: Only 15 min from chico Had reservation available for when we wanted to go My filet had great flavor The bread and salads came out quickly They put my steak back on the grill when asked The bread would have been excellent if had been hot Cons: The table we were seated at was dirty, we helped the hostess change the paper My guy never received his drink The bar crowd made it hard to get to the bathroom It was VERY LOUD My salad had 4 pieces of rotten lettuce in it (the wait staff make the salads), salad looked like it was just thrown together The bread was cold, ate it anyway, we were never offered more Water glasses were never refilled They were out of the big ribeye my guy had been looking forward to (odd for a steakhouse only open a few days a week) It took 60 minutes to get our food (literally) My guy's ribeye was WAY overseasoned and 1/3 of it was gristle and fat His steak was RAW not rare and mine was rare not medium rare It took 15 minutes to get my steak back after having it re-grilled The asparagus wasn't peeled so it was fibrous, hard to eat The steak knives were dull For $45 a plate, we won't be back. read more

This steakhouse is truly a gem in the middle of nowhere. At the suggestion of a friend, I made reservations in advance & I'm sure glad I did. We pulled into an almost full parking lot & I was happy to have a table already reserved for us. It says a lot about an establishment when it's incredibly busy. Server Lara & Manager Nick provided absolutely fabulous service, even with how busy they were. We started with the fried pickles appetizer & house dinner rolls - both were delicious! For our meals we enjoyed the fried mac & cheese, ribeye steak, fettuccine alfredo with chicken, & the grilled chicken sandwich.  There weren't any complaints from any of us, as everything was cooked & plated with such care.  The atmosphere, food, service, & price are all great!  We'll definitely be back again! read more

Our second time visiting Lassen Steakhouse, had early reservations at 4:30. Arrived at 4:00 sat at the bar for a cocktail our two, we were seated at 4:30. Waitress was pleasant and timely, we started with some calamari and it was delicious, we both ordered ribeyes my wife ordered the 12 once and I the 16 once, salads came right away and we very good. Meals were delivered shortly after, my wife steak was over cooked and was sent back second time was better. Both our ribeyes were 50% fat very disappointing, I do understand that the fat gives the steak its flavor but this was way too much. Used to be good food but the last few times we've gone the vegetables have been complete mush with no flavor, meat is way over salted and never cooked to the correct temperature, and the mashed potatoes have just been solid butter with no seasoning and served cold. Bummed their quality has gone downhill so fast. Won't be going back sadly as it is close to where we live. read more

The food was only so-so. They had nice wine. The server was ok but the service was terrible. The timing was awful. We ordered a starter and it came out with the wine, which was ok. The salad came out before we finished the starter and then about two minutes later the entree was delivered. We hadn't finished the starter! We are NOT slow eaters. We've tried the restaurant once and have tried to get another reservation three more times. When we did go it was for a birthday (party of 6), the food was not very good and the place was packed so the service was not that great. For a steakhouse the quality of their steak was not much better than a Denny's steak. The sides were blah and it was expensive. It was cold and we were seated next to the door and the place was smoked out from the wood fireplace. The new owners did however spruce up the place to mimic a fine dining steakhouse. I always try to give a place three tries before they go on my three strikes your out list. Unfortunately since we've been unable to go back this is the review based on my singular experience. Big turnaround with new ownership/management. I went there for years from 2018-2021 and then it closed. It was re-opened under new management and Jason (met last night) has nailed it. Tough to find great places to eat in the northstate with good food AND good service AND ambience but he has changed this from a bar with food to a good restaurant with a bar. Good job. The only suggestions I would offer is bring back baked potatoes and slow down the food service. Better too fast than waiting forever but didn't even finish the salad before the main course was there. I've driven by this dusty old building many times on my work route. Most of that time there's been a for sale sign hung up on it. Serious Bob Seger vibes. Hoeven times have changed and I was invited to my mom's birthday party down here at Lassen steakhouse and I thought why the hell not. Upon arrival it was crazy seeing the full parking lot and walking inside it was amazing seeing just how nice this building truly was. Service was 11/10 on all fronts. It was busy and for good reason. Honestly I was incredibly disappointed in customer service. We had booked a reservation for our one year anniversary dinner. I was so excited to go because I have heard great things. Fast forward to the day of, my husband got stuck at work because it's his busy season (working in agriculture) and I had called early that morning and left a voicemail asking if I could move our reservation 30 minutes later (as soon as my husband told me he was going to have to work a little later than expected I called) hours passed and I never heard back, they open at 4 so I tried to call again.....20 phone calls later between my husband and I, we FINALLY got through to someone (around 5 pm, our reservation was at 6:30) I asked if there was any way we could move our anniversary reservation to 7 because my husband got stuck fixing a farmers equipment that malfunctioned and we weren't going to make it by that time. She said no they were too swamped to accommodate us. I then asked what the latest they would take us is and she said no more than 15 minutes after reservation and they wouldn't take us as a walk in. Now, I understand they can be busy and I understand we committed to a reservation time. But knowing we made these reservations in advance and informing the hostes that it was unintentional and unfortunate we weren't going to make it and asked for only a 30 minute delay and she made no effort to see if she could accommodate us really was sad to me. She didn't try to check or didn't try to ask a manager if they could do anything to try to squeeze us in like most places would do for a circumstance like we were in (unexpected delay due to work, first year anniversary, only 30 minute delay) This made me really bummed at the lack of understanding and hospitality when I was so excited to try it and take a special moment to celebrate at their establishment...any way long rant but I was super bummed and I'm not sure if I have the desire to try to go there again‍ read more

This was our second trip for dinner here. I honestly don't see why people think this place is so great. The service is terrible almost non existent. We couldn't get our waters filled let alone our drinks. Parts of our meal was so salty you couldn't eat it. I can say they are consistent on bad service and poor food. Only one person finished their meal and it was pasta. The rest of us left probably half on our plate. My husband prime rib was "ok" but his rice was so salty he couldn't eat it. My Brussels sprout were so salty and over cooked I just pushed them aside. One person at our table, ordered a rare ribeye and it was basically raw. She took it home to give to her dogs. As I said before for sure won't go back there again. We only went because we were invited as a "Thank You" gesture. I don't recommend either drive further to Chico if your heading South or Redding if your heading North! read more

Found this place on accident visiting family in Corning. This will be a new "must go" destination when visiting family here. TVs playing rodeo and football. Awesome prices on drinks. Hendricks gin mixed drinks $13, I understand this is rural off the beaten path but I've never seen Hendricks under $18-$19 before. I got a 16oz prime rib with an awesome awesome rosemary seasoned crust on the outside, loaded mashed potatoes and the Brussels sprouts. I'd recommend reservations because it seems like the local crowd fills this place up, for good reason. UPDATE: I'm hoping our last trip there was just a one off as they are usually really good. The red mashed potatoes were bland and really watery. So watery they ran off a spoon when tipped. The Brussels were really mushy which was sad because they have been outstanding in the past. The chicken breast is not a whole breast. They split one breast into 2 pieces down the middle so you only get half of the breast which is only about 1/2 inch thick. For $19 it should be a whole breast. Wife had a ribeye which was so fatty only half of it was edible. We had a party of 9 and the cost was $362 (excluding tip) which isn't horrible since the adults did have a couple drinks from the bar. Everyone who ordered a dinner with the mashed potatoes and Brussels had the same comments. Some ordered burgers and fries and there weren't any complaints about them. We did not complain to the servers about the food because we weren't looking for any discounts and we will return in hopes this night was just a one off. The servers were outstanding as they were extremely busy but still were able to be attentive. Please, please, please, Lassen Steak House, do not start cutting corners on your food and please maintain some quality control. I know several people who drive from Red Bluff, Orland, and Chico, for your great food and reasonable prices. I would rather pay a bit more for good quality than accepting less to keep prices cheap. 2 stars for Service. Our waiter was fantastic and the manager was quite nice and professional when hearing my concerns. Where to start..... the board (pictured) what is misleading. It stated seafood platter. Lobster tail, lemon battered cod, and fried Cajun shrimp. For our appetizer, we ordered fried artichoke and burnt beef tips. As I bit into my Fried artichoke (which were over fried.) The inside was literally frozen. The fried beef tips had been marinated in something that had sugar and thrown right onto the grill (a big no no in a chefs world) and burnt to a crisp from one in all the way to the other, and no one at our table, wanted to eat them after trying one. The issue I had with my plate personally was that my lobster tail meat was soft and strange. I took a bite into it and it had straight Cajun flavor. When asking the manager if it was advertised as Cajun lobster tail, he said yes. If you look at the board , it is not advertised as Cajun lobster tail. I think they marinated the shrimp and the lobster tail in the same bucket. I also had the deep fried Cajun shrimp. When I bit into the shrimp, there was a burnt outside layer and a slimy layer in between of Cajun liquid and then the shrimp Last..... I could not eat those. I was very excited about my cod as I eat cod quite frequently in different locations all over the state. As I started to chew and chew and chew, I realized it was a no go on the cod. Finally the last thing on my plate red potato mash. Quite hungry and ready to eat them, my friend across the announces at that very moment.... oh my, I can't eat this red potato mash as it's completely bland and I have to doctor it up to eat it. There's not even salt in it. Mind you we are young people, and our taste buds are quite right. On a positive note the clam chowder, and the rolls were quite delicious and I was able to eat those and be satisfied enough to call it good. The gentleman at my table had ordered prime rib. My husband coming from a cattle family would say he is a good judge of prime rib. I have included pictures of that. I do not need to comment on that. The atmosphere was surprising as it seems to be all the local's coming out for a Friday night. Dinner on the regular. It is definitely a casual place to go to. We had brought friends from out of state ready to give them an epic meal. We were a little embarrassed. We stopped here on a whim from Corning on our travels to Oregon. What friendly staff and fabulous food! We found the prices to be quite reasonable as well. The atmosphere was rustic and inviting.
