Ok, we've all gone to those tiki bars where every step you take, the soles of your shoes stick to the floors, there's sticky glassware, and the contents of your drink serve the sole purpose of getting you f**ked up. It's been a while since my visit and I know my review is a bit past due. The interior is amazing with old airplane chairs and parts that seemed like they are made out of old airplane parts. First Tiki bar experience ever but very cool~ Staffs are friendly and helpful with what they recommend with fast turn around. Each drink seems like they were meticulously made with care that are also great in taste and very unique. Out of the 4 different drinks we tried, which were all good, Last Rites and Kal Maa's Doom definitely stood out. If I lived in the bay area, I know I would be a regular but till my next visit in the bay area, I will be missing this place.. Try it out and you won't regret! read more

The most unique tiki bar in Castro! I came here on Saturday night around 8 and there were lots of people because of halloween. The atmosphere was pretty interesting! It's great place to hang out with friends and chill! I am not a drinker so I tried virgin coconut drink which was really sweet and good! I'd love to visit here again and try other drinks! Fun, festive tiki bar with solid drinks! It's not quite as *tiki* as Tonga Room (and it's not extra enough to have a band playing on the water lol) but the decor is awesome, and if you're lucky enough to able to grab a booth or table in the back, you can easily spend an entire evening here combing through their excellent cocktail menu. Came here on the weekend before Halloween and the giant skull in the back was perfect for the occasion. The Kali Maa's Doom was super tasty. Not too sure what was in it aside from gin but it tasted like dessert and was topped with a toasted marshmallow and a slice of watermelon! I loved that servers were walking around and taking orders so that we didn't need to fight for the bartenders' attention. Made it a seamless experience. Pro tip: If it's really crowded, hang around the back area by the tables so that you can grab one when it becomes available. read more

One of my favorite little bars in the city. Very nice bouncer in the front, he seems to always be in a good mood. Drinks are very tasty. But the service needs a little improvement here. We felt forgotten once they sat us a table. Waved down a bartender and he rushed us on what we wanted to get - not sure if he was annoyed but his demeanor wasn't friendly at all. I have always loved Tiki, and Last Rites does it right!!! It's like a plane crashed on a scary island and the jungle grew over it... the decor is over the top, and and transports you to somewhere else.... And the drinks are fabulous! My first drink came w/ a flaming float in it, inside it's own little clever lime-rind cup! I was w/ a group, so got to taste a lot of cocktails, and they were all delicious! Not super sweet, nicely balanced, interesting combinations... The staff were really friendly, and doing a great job on the soft opening night, which quickly got very busy, and having worked in many bars and restaurants, I know can be a bit hectic! I recently closed my business ( Colorbox Salon) just up the street, and it might be a good thing that this place just opened, as it might be TOO convenient for me, lol! There are plenty street parking around. Most of the cocktails are $12-$14 . I had the " Mama Juan " cocktail which is just the way I like; sweet and fruity. Love it. Came here on a Friday night and it was really packed. It's a small little Tiki bar, quite dark, but they have some cool decor. Had an old fashioned, which was strong. Didn't have to wait long. Me and two friends went here last weekend and we had such a great time! It was their second night open since COVID and all the tables were spaced out so it felt very safe! Awesome concept bar. So weird to walk in off the busy SF street and be instantly transported to a different time and place - like you're in a pulp jungle adventure serial, looking over your shoulder for mysterious characters, grabbing a crazy tropical drink concoction and just hiding out for a bit. Half expect to walk out to giant beach sunset but again you get that cool transition back to the real world. I looooved this tiki bar. It has everything going for it - decent location near the Castro on Market St, super specific theme with the plane crash decor (beyond just your good ol' general tiki bar), and more than anything else, amazing drinks. Even though the place was hella crowded when I got there, there was still sufficient standing room, so I didn't feel like I was being trampled. Definitely don't plan on getting a seat here if you go on a weekend (unless you arrive really early or something). I had a very unique service experience here - even though I was standing close to the bar, but not actually at the bar, a server came out from behind the bar and took my order! I didn't have to shove my way in among the other poor souls sitting along the bar. She also came out and delivered my drink (even though my partner and I had moved from our original spot at that point). I give them so many props for this level of service. And, like I said, the drinks were amazing. I highly recommend the Rings of Saturn - it was a frozen fruity beverage with the right level of sweetness and boozy cherries as garnish. Some of their other drinks looked way more flashy though: they were toasting marshmallows and burning sticks of cinnamon at the bar. Seems like you can't go wrong! read more

Checked the place out for the 1st time yesterday evening with co-workers and loved the decor and build out. I'm usually a scotch kinda guy and not a big fan of sweet/fruity drinks. But am a fan of interesting and thoughtful flavor combos. The Hech Hechy was my favorite - not overly sweet and spicy. Pretty darn good overall. Drinks took a while to be served but, it just opened (as I understand it) so understandable they're still figuring an optimal flow. But I also had to reset expectations since tiki cocktails are on the craft side and do take more time to produce vs. doing a pour of scotch and calling it a day. I was one of those gruff martini types who believed that rum should be drunk only by people under the age of 25 or within 5 feet of a beach. Last rites proved me wrong. Their rum cocktails have the perfect mix of sweet and alcohol and a unique sense of flavor. Also the bar staff actually comes up to you while you are standing, unlike other several other happy hour bars where you frantically trying to make eye contact with people scurrying by you on a mission that is clearly more important than your next drink. I've been meaning to check this tiki bar out for the past year and finally made it on a Monday evening! It was amazing - it's this little spot hidden on 14th street with almost no sign outside. When you enter it takes some time to adjust to how dim the bar is - but slowly you start to take in how incredible the whole place is! The ceiling is covered in these vines that are just amazing and it's lit by only hanging lamps/candles (hence the dimness). The music isn't too loud and is almost entirely bass so you can actually have a conversation with someone. The first 3 booths are perfect to come on a date. The bartender was super sweet and made our drinks really well. We both got the last rites with is truly a lethal drink - it's incredibly sweet (almost too much so) and is SUPER strong and that's why the bar even limits you to just 2. At $14 it's not a cheap drink but will definitely get the job done very quickly. The back of this bar is perfect for a big group! Just remember to make a reservation since it's obviously a popular spot (rightfully so!). Will definitely be coming back :) read more

I'm asian woman went to this bar around 12:30 with my boyfriend ( He's caucasian). I sat on the bar first while my boyfriend in the bathroom. I said hi to bartender and he didn't replied. At first I thought he didn't hear me. Later on when my boyfriend came sit next to me bartender immediately started talking to my boyfriend. Bartender ask my ID from my boyfriend not from me...and asked what I'm going to drink from boyfriend again not from me, while I'm sitting right there sitting in front of the bartender. I didn't want to ruin our vacation so I just let it go. Later I asked him 3 freaking times what time are they closing. This event was so fun!! I went here for a birthday and the scenery and ambiance was incredible. It was like an adult rainforest cafe (but better) lol. I highly recommend going here and possibly hosting your own even too. The staff was incredibly accommodating and recommended amazing drinks to me (which looked amazing btw, highly recommend ordering the punch bowl, they light it on fire and there's a "thunderstorm" too, it was the coolest drink I've ever seen). We went here last night (a Thursday) and it was great! We expected it to be quiet because of the weeknight and it's new, but it was hopping! The staff was friendly and helpful, and I didn't have to wait ages to be acknowledged at the bar like at many places. The decor is amazing and it's fairly small but there are loads of places to put drinks (like on shelves around columns) which I appreciated. And speaking of the drinks they were amazing. My husband enjoyed his Last Rites, my mother in law loved the Avian Evolution, but the star of the show was my Kali Maa's Doom. AMAZING. read more
