We loved this diner. Easy to find, good parking, great service and wonderful food. We shared the meatloaf, which was plenty for two people. We love the owner whom we met and she gave us free cookies. We bought several bakery items back to our hotel which were delicious. We particularly loved the carrot cake. We will try this again when we go our back to Albany. read more

In the past I'd had good experiences. Tonight the hostess complained that we were there and actually kicked us out right at closing time as we were finishing our meal. Her exact words were "we closed 5 minutes ago... are you planning on leaving anytime soon?" Just for reference, I was there with my parents who are both senior citizens. I know your saying this guys gives a lot of five star reviews to diners. Well guess what they deserve it. Quality food prepared quickly and professionally and delivered hot to the table in a flash. This place is huge, the staff is friendly and helpful and very attentive. You can't go wrong and when I'm in the area I'll come back and visit. Very clean bathrooms, warm greetings coming into the restaurant and heartfelt good byes upon leaving. We felt like this was our local diner back home and were treated like regulars. Came in about 7:15pm and the place was relatively empty. Placed our orders: husband got broiled seafood combo and I got the turkey dinner. Both came with soup and we both selected split pea. Bread arrived with soup. Oddly each slice was wrapped in plastic wrap. Soup was thick and hot but kind of tasteless. It was strictly pea soup. After 2-3 spoonfuls I gave the rest to my husband who peppered the heck out of it. My husband asked for another iced tea. By 8pm our meals still had not arrived. A few minutes later our waitress came to the table and explained there had been a mistake. They only made the scallops from my husband's dinner and it would be another 15 minutes before the new meal was ready. My husband said that was fine, bring the scallops so that he could eat those while I had my turkey. The waitress reappeared with my dinner, his scallops and the sides (my veggie, his potato & veggie). His potato looked as though it were baked days ago and reheated. If he had put butter on it, it wouldn't have been hot enough to melt it-same with the green beans, squash, and my turkey dinner-which I barely touched. I liked my squash but it wasn't at all warm. All of it was barely warm. We suspect there was a mixup in the kitchen or our waitress forgot about us. The waitress finally brought his iced tea after about 10 minutes. The waitress returned and apologized again and said she'd wrap his meal to-go-which in itself was odd-you'd think she would have asked if he wanted it now. He said his take out container seemed hot. When we got in the car my very kind hubby said "that was possibly the worst meal I've ever had." That was not an exaggeration. We will not return. read more

After having been here before; surprised I haven't had a previously check in ‍ is besides me. But I digress... My wife and I decided to stop in and grab a quick dinner post attending the holiday parade over across town in Schenectady. Overall I'd say that the atmosphere is that of a solid vintage diner. Will have to say that thIs experience was decent. Our waiter was friendly, and we assumed he must have been new since he was still unsure about some aspects of the menu. But he was pleasant with everything; making the experience pleasant. For the food though; we're not sure what happened. I chose the half roasted duck, while my wife had the yankee pot roast. Normally we've had these same meals at other locations and they're delicious. So we thought that we'd give them a try. My wife mentioned that she questioned about if she had ordered the pot roast and they didn't mix something up? It seemed to be not the traditional fork tender, fall apart meat with the traditional veggies served with it (carrots and onion) and the side of mashed potatoes. But instead a tougher, leaner cuts of steak. Slathered with gravy or thicker jus and some peas sprinkled across the top and then a smaller side of mashed potatoes. Could have probably done better with a touch of parsley for a garnish, and vegetables included in the dish. For the duck however, normally half a duck you'd generally anticipate a thigh and breast collectively. Instead it was more boney and ribbed than anticipated. Served with what was supposed to be a "fruit accompaniment". Not sure what the fruit accompaniment was though; it was so sweet and had an overwhelming taste of clove. For the sides I opted for zucchini and a baked potato. Classics of course. The potato was great, well cooked; no hard or undercooked spots. But the zucchini; had made me feel like it was more of an Italian dish in itself than a side. It tasted great, but it certainly felt out of place. Served with a marinara base and a very strong taste of oregano. Didn't seem to feel cohesive to the duck. Overall, food was alright this time around. Price point wasn't terrible. But hopefully they can improve on the presentation of the "entree" items. I'd come back again. Maybe next time I'd stick with the classic diner options of a burger and fries. read more

Been coming here for 40 years never had a bad meal came the other day with my mother and wife, and wasn't going to say anything but the more I thought about it the more I realized I had to. I didn't say anything that day because my mom would have been embarrassed and like I said we've never had a bad meal here in 40 years. We ordered three hamburgers they were dry worse hamburgers we've ever eaten you could tell they were lunchtime retreads. And you might want to tell the heavy blonde haired woman in the front of house that smiling is free and it's her job to welcome people to an establishment not act miserable. read more

Omelette was delicious, tomatoes need to be thicker but were a good alternative to home fries. Coffee wasn't great and tasted old and weak. Great in town diner to visit. read more

Ordered out when parents came to visit. I ordered a Cajun chicken sandwich and when I got home realized it was a burger of some kind. The burger was pretty good for what it was but definitely wanted to try the Cajun chicken but I live like 20 minutes away so didn't want to drive back at 9 at night. No, Tony, I will not be back. We had to wait a half hour just to get a glass of water, then, we had to wait a half hour for our waitress to take our order, then, we had to wait another half hour for our meal, which was not good at all. ALL of your prices have increased and you don't even get a free refill on your coffee. We were disappointed to say the least, and while we were at our table, we saw several people leaving because they were sitting there for a half hour, at least, just waiting to be able to have lunch. 76 Diner Used to be good, not anymore. This place holds a special place in my heart, as I am sure it does for a lot of the alums from a certain local high school. Eleven months ago, I moved away from my hometown and this is one of the breakfast places my husband and I miss most. The prices are a bit high, but thankfully you can visit the 76 Diner 24/7 if you need to. The food is usually pretty tasty, I recommend the Belgian Waffle. Service can be lacking, the staff is a little slow on those coffee refills at times. Decor is.....funky, but it's nice to see it all stay the same and the place seems quite clean. It was nice to come home and see that many of the same wait staff is still working there (almost a year later). I do enjoy visiting this establishment, I was here a handful of times during my visit to the area. read more

I have been a loyal customer since 1978, and one can always be certain that the food will be quite good (way above average diner fare). Before the covid debacle, you could also rely on a lively atmosphere with friendly people as servers, hosts, and other guests. Based on my return to the area four months ago I need to add these caveats: If the parking lot is full, then definitely come in! However, since it now closes at 10 PM, the late crowds have significantly dwindled. And with this, many of those staffing late night act as though they are frustrated and bored. This has led to some shockingly bad service on more than one occasion. So, if there are only a few stagglers, made clear by there being only a smattering of cars parked,. GO ELSEWHERE! Last night's experience was the clincher. You should have seen the paltry amount of ice cream that appears to have scraped rather than scooped from the tub. The slice of pie was miniscule, and with coffee served with total indifference and never refilled, the bill was just shy of $13. A waste of time and money, and I had a terrible time. THAT SAID, when the lot is full everything hums along as it has in the past. Athena, the long time owner, continues to care, but only the delightfully bubbly Ashley is terrific in the under 35 year old age range of waitresses. One barely over her teenage years served me a CUP of soup after I VERY CLEARLY repeated at least 3 times, that I wanted a BOWL. Empty smiles don't cut if if you aren't listening! read more

Recently stopped for dinner with my sister and granddaughter. Only the granddaughters meal was acceptable, and she had a pancake with blueberries and whipped cream. I ordered fried chicken only to have the waitress come back and tell me they didn't have it. So I switched and ordered sliced sirloin. After a long delay the waitress came back again and told me the cook messed up and made some kind of hamburger steak. I mistakingly said I would try it. The meat was so overcooked that I could barely cut through it. My sister ordered a hamburger medium rare. Her meat also came out looking and tasting like a hockey puck. To be fair, the waitress was wonderful, but the overall experience was awful. I contacted the diner via EMAIL as soon as I got home. The owner responded quickly. He explained the issues were related to not having experienced staff. He also offered to send us a gift certificate to go back and try dinner another time. I responded with my sister's address since she paid for the meals. None of us ever heard another thing from the diner - no communication, no gift certificate. Have been going here for years. Can't see it every happening again. Very sad. read more

Not sure how I haven't reviewed this place since I am a regular. Good diner food. Taste homemade from scratch. When I just have no idea where I want to eat this is a good standby. I had the Giro last night and it was pretty good. One thing that is sort of unusual is that there is feta cheese in it, which I loved. I also got the french onion soup and that was pretty good too. Flavorful broth, nicely melted cheese on top. Wish they had more Greek food specials. One thing of note though is after about 8:30pm or so they go on to a smaller menu with more limited choice but still sufficient. Breakfast available all the time as far as I know. read more

We were passing through the area and we like to dine local when we can. The food was reasonably good; the service not so much. After waiting quite some time for our food the waitress came back and told us some other server took our food so they were preparing it again. No apology for the additional wait. When our food came, my wife and I were both supposed to get coleslaw with our meals and did not. When we pointed that out the waitress came back with two of the little take out containers of coleslaw and plopped them down on the table. Again, not the slightest hint of an apology. My wife was also supposed to get barbecue sauce on the side; never came. Maybe it was just a bad day but it was definitely not a good experience for us. read more

My wife grew up in the area and had gone here many times. We recently went back to see how it was and it did not disappoint. Although the menu seemed to be smaller than it used to be, there were still plenty of options to choose from. The waitress was very nice and the staff were friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and feels like a classic diner. We got the mushroom ravioli and mac and cheese. Both had very creamy and delicious sauces with many spices. The portion sizes were good and it was hard to resist eating the whole thing since we also wanted to get dessert. The chocolate lava cake was fluffy and had a very nice center. Strike Three Latham '76! I would not recommend this place to anyone. Waitress: no good. Not friendly or attentive. Food: translucent white tomatoes on my club. In other words: Done & over it. Trip number 2.... that one wasn't so good. The waitress was not attentive. We waited a long time for our food, which is ok, but the waitress never checked in to let us know what is going on. She did, however, let the table next to us know. That was nice of her, considering they were here after us. The food arrived!! Yay!! Cold fries. Dry club sandwich. It's a shame. We figured with the number of cars in the parking lot and the number of people waiting to be seated this place was a great place for breakfast. Unfortunately our experience was less than great. We put our name in and expected to wait a bit. After 20 minutes or so we noticed people who arrived after us being seated. Checked with the host and saw our name had already been crossed off. They thought someone may have taken our table. A little annoying but not the restaurant's fault. They did seat us immediately and offered us free drinks which we appreciated. Our server was great and very accommodating. The problem I had was with the food. You can see my our order below. I think I had 6 pieces of hash brown on my plate and the bacon was rubbery and undercooked. To charge almost $12 for this plate seems a bit much. read more

I love this diner. Went tonight and had the French onion soup with a Reuben and my hub had a wrap with a salad. His wrap was HUGE and yum, my French onion soup was delicious and my Reuben was on point. Our server was nice as was the busboy or bus-man? The host was nice too. I could have lived without the flakey 18 yr old girls sitting near us being super 18. Leah and Mackenzie, hosts from The BrickHouse who's friend ate at the 76 recently and had their/our server, take his pic so L & M had him take their pic and then they sent it to him and it was all soooooo funny and interesting. "Dang kids. Get off my lawn" Shakes cane. But all in all this place is always a win. Next time I'll request a quiet table far from any youths. Quick lunch on July fourth. No wait. Chicken florentine soup nice and hot with plenty of chicken. Chicken quesadillas for an app. So tasty! A lot of onions but they were grilled to perfection. Ceaser salad was huge. My dining mate got chicken fingers and fries for an appetizer which could've been a meal in itself but he was hungry and also got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. It was huge. The menu is typical for a diner, many pages with lots to choose from and full of "specials". Service is quick and friendly! read more

Having just made the long drive from Concord, this diner was a welcome respite and served up typical American fare, not the kind you would get on a fair, but everything you expect from a diner. I had a Chicken Dinner with mash and salad, and it hit the spot. The salad didn't taste like the freshest I'd ever had, but it all went down well. I am so disappointed. We have been coming to this diner for a long time. Last night we came to celebrate my husband's birthday and had the worst meals ever. He ordered the hamburger steak with French fries and a side of gravy. It was so dry that it was a good thing he had ordered gravy. I ordered the baked haddock. It was nasty, overcooked and had this tomato, pepper, onion mixture on top. I ate 5 bites and was done. It was so disgusting. The onion rings were soggy and made with tough onions. Latham 76 is everything you want in a diner. The decor is classic, staff are friendly and it's open all the time! Having lived here my entire life I have to admit, I had not gone to the 76 until last year. What I think I appreciate most is the ability to grab an early breakfast with a friend or my spouse before work. Surprisingly, there are not many choices for an early breakfast. I always get the same omelet; the Athenian and it's always delicious. I appreciate the ability to get grilled tomatoes instead of potatoes as a side. I enjoy the potatoes but appreciate a better alternative choice. Friendly faces providing good service, decent diner food at reasonable prices. I feel like 76 has been around forever and I'm sure I will be back again. read more
