They used this truck for Hospital week at my Hospital tonight. unfortunately we were greeted with attitude being told by one of the cooks day shift only had one order each Wow! having to explain we only have a few nurses at night so charge nurses and other workers were tasked with ordering for nurses and pcts who could not make it down. which is about 3-4 staff.We were told via email the truck would be available until 1030pm so we could pass our medications when some nurses were turned away @10:14pm . This food truck came to my job a little while ago because our cafeteria is being renovated. I ordered the beef empanadas with a side of rice and beans. The empanadas were delicious. I'm from Miami, FL, where there are empanadas everywhere, so I have pretty high standards. These empanadas were pretty on par with the empanadas that we have in Miami. They're smaller in size, so if you're really hungry, maybe order more than 2 haha. The rice and beans were also really good. I grew up having rice and beans as a side, so having this meal definitely made me feel like I was having a meal back at home again. Mama's Food was at the Orange Park "Foodies and Movies" tonight. I decided to join for the foodie part of the event. The "seafood bowl" immediately caught my eye. Shrimp and scallops?! It turned out to be nachos, which wasn't really what I expected. The serving was big (too big for me to finish alone). It had lots of those tiny shrimp and small scallops, black beans, tomatoes, and tons of cheese (and it wasn't like gross nacho cheese, it was melted and great). The only possible complaint I could have was that the chips were just store bought, kind of blah chips. I'd love to try out their quesadilla and empandas next time! read more

I think they are pricey. I got the rice bowl with steak. The steak is very tasty and seasoned well and cut up in tiny bites. Might be what they stuff the beef empanadas with. The rice is the huge disappointment. Very sticky. I'm Dominican so I like my rice cooked, fluffy and separated well. Then you have black beans with lettuce and tomatoes on top. Well, this review is more than a little late, but better late than never, right? I had a chance to taste a little bite of Mama's Food at the Food Truck Championship Downtown this past May. It's so hard to have a taste of everything you want at this competitions, but made a bee-line for Mama's to check out those amazing looking Empanadas. I opted for the beef to tame my inner carnivore, and within a few minutes I had that glorious beef pocket in my hands. The outside was hot, fried perfectly, but man the beef...mmmmmmmmm hints of taco seasoning in the juicy meat filling, with delicious juices exploding out in each bite. And the dipping sauce... I can't remember exactly what was in it, but it seemed like a tomatillo and cilantro combination.. but what I do remember is that is was freakin fantastic. Definitely a mess, but I could not stop dipping! Tangy and a perfect combination. I will order it again (because when you find something so delish, you have to have a round two) and can't wait to check out a few more menu items as well. read more

Okay. These people are AWESOME! Two days before a party for about 75-100 people or so for a work event my boss tells me to find some place yummy and affordable to cater our party. After a bit of back and forth, Natalia from Mama's Food Truck delivers some of the best food we could have asked for and on such short notice! Everyone that ate RAVED about it and all 75 people had their bellies satisfied and happy. Not to mention we got stuck in a torrential downpour and they were nice enough to run food around and figure out what belongs to who. The empanadas were fresh, flaky and DELISH! I also sampled the enormous chicken quesadillas which were just as delicious and filled with yummy chicken and ooey-gooey cheese. I heard amazing things about the steak sandwiches which I will be trying next time I spot the truck around. They were all served with a side of fresh and crispy fries and a variety of condiments that complimented the food so well. Definitely give them a try or call them for catering. So I didn't feel like getting in the car to go grab a bite to eat, and was extremely glad the food trucks were in Hemming Plaza. I immediately spotted Mama's and knew this was going to be my truck of choice. Great choice!!! Although the menu was limited, everything listed looked appetizing. I opted for an empanada and the fried shrimp. I decided against the chicken, and got the beef empanada, which was filled with a delicious ground beef filling. When I bit into it, the juices just ran down my hand. Needless to say, it was not a dainty food and I didn't give a hoot. It was hand licking good and I enjoyed every bit of it. The shrimp and tostones were also very good. However, the empanada got me full and I couldn't finish all of the meal. The shrimp weren't overly battered and the seasoning had a little kick. Lastly, the tostones were great. They were fried very nicely with just the right amount of salt on them. Thursday's and Friday's are the expected food truck days in Hemming Plaza, and I will be anxiously anticipating Mama's! read more

I have eaten the whole menu a few times over now and I just can't say enough on how good Mama's Food Truck is. Natalie and her crew of merry women sure rock it out. The empanadas have to be some of the best in town. Hands down period and take my word for it and run that puppy to the bank. They are golden literally. Fried to a golden crispness. Then filling is also to die for. Just the right amount of beef and or chicken. I mean these things are bursting from the hand crimped dough. I have personally watch Natalie make these things and they are a true labor of love with a whole lot of labor going into to these things. You can taste it as soon as you bite into it. Everything on the menu is made the same way. When you are as much a foodie or food truck stalker as me you know such things. So if you are hungry and only want to eat at one truck this is it. The quesadillas are awesome. The meat bowls are thru the roof and you better be hungry. The seafood bowl she ha done in the past is one of my absolute favorites but it is only brought out in special occasions. I just wish that everyday that I find them was that special occasion. My son and I went to a car show in Ponte Vedra (Jacksonville Florida) today and they had some food trucks there. We looked at all the menus and chose Mama's Food truck. Boy were we glad we did. I had the beef empanadas and my son had the chicken sandwich with fries. My empanadas were very tasty and the spices in the ground beef was just right. My son said it was the best chicken sandwich he had ever had. Now, lets turn our attention to the fries....first they were golden and looked like they were perfectly cooked.
