The banh mi sandwich is so good that I went twice while in San Francisco. I was a skeptic but it exceeded my expectations. I had to take it to an event for lunch. I bought it at 8am and ate it at 1pm, and it was still perfect. Just don't add mayo to it. I recommend the #2 special. The couple working at the place is cute. They were so nice. On my second day buying that sandwich, she gave me a chocolate donut. Great service. The space is small but it's a great cozy spot. read more

The food is fantastic. This is not the place to go for a high-end experience. It is tucked away in the quiet streets near the piers when nothing else is open. The empty streets and modest store front may feel a little sketchy. But once you enter, you are greeted by a kind man who makes the dishes you order upon order (except for donuts, of course). Many regular patrons popped in and out throughout our visit conversing with the owner and sharing personal stories and events. It felt like a community staple. My son and I shared a sausage, egg and cheese croissant- so delicious. The eggs were made fresh upon ordering. Our friends got 2 chocolate donuts that were heavenly, as well. The coffee- eeeh... it was caffeinated so it did the trick. Definitely recommend for practical, good food when you are needing a quick stop before a tour! read more

Horrible place stay away! I walked over from the hotel for breakfast for my family. The lady at the counter kept messing up my order after I had to repeat myself several times. I paid for everything and when I noticed I was missing a bagel with cream cheese she seemed surprised. After I asked her three different times if she got that in the order. Waited for that and left (my fault) without pulling everything out to check it. Once again the lady at the counter just didn't seem to care anything about the order. I ordered an apple fritter (had to repeat my request several times) and she put a cinnamon bun inside instead of what I ordered. Not a fan of them. We stopped by on the way to catch our boat to Alcatraz. We picked up coffee a maple glazed donut and a croissant. The coffee was self serve and fresh. The donut was fresh fluffy very delicious. Stopped by this little, what seems to be a family run business, cafe shop on the Firsherman's Wraph. It was around 9:20 AM and it was not too busy but it smelled great inside! There was a large choice of donuts and bagels, as well as some choices for tea and coffee. The chocolate donut was one of the best ones I have had in a while: it tasted great and was cooked perfectly. As for the bagels, if one orders a bagel with tomatoes, it will be filled with fresh tomato slices. And it is not just one of two slices, but there are plenty of slices. The bagels are large, delicious, highly customized, and feel very refreshing. There were also eggs and sandwiches on the menu, which I have not tried but have seen others order, and it smelled quite tasty. The prices were very reasonable and the service was fast.   Will be coming back! read more

Let the buyer beware. These two need to get it together. I'm assuming this is a husband and wife team who don't speak to each other when it comes to price points. I don't trust these two and here is why. Husband gives one price and wife charges way more on same items. When he's there it's a pleasure. When she's there it's noticeable price hikes and gruffness galore. She's not the nicest person in the world. Case in point. I used to buy my donuts here for the guys at work and it would cost $22.00 per dozen. No problem, I'd pay the amount and leave a $3.00 tip and be on my merry way. I'd do this every Wednesday and as mentioned, he was always a pleasure to work with. One Wednesday she was working the cash register and when I selected the very same variety of donuts, she charged me $5.00 more...for the same fucking donuts! The same types that I've been purchasing every Wednesday for the past, I don't even know how long. When I asked her why, she said that's the price. When I said I won't be paying said price, she balked and said she would give it to me at the price he always charged. But prices would be up next time. Needless to say I left without the donuts. I think she thought I was a tourist and not a regular because we never interacted before. This was a couple of years ago now. So I found a new donut spot closer to my home (Grand Mission Donut's & Bakery) on 18th & Mission and they only charge $20.00-$22.00 per dozen. And the lady is really sweet. But I digress. So I hadn't been to Latte Express in a couple of years and I recently started going back to grab an occasional coffee. They're the only place open at 6:00AM in the immediate area. Well, today guess who was working the register?!?! Mrs. Scrooge. That's who! So I ordered my coffee and she said that it was a $5.00 minimum for credit card use. Totally understandable, except her husband never charged me a fee for using my card. He just straight up charged me $5.00 for the large coffee. Which to me is worth it considering that they're the only game in town at this time of the morning. But she wanted me to buy a something else to make the minimum. So I left and I reminded her why I no longer frequent their establishment. My issue with this place is that I can only imagine the range of prices they decide to charge for the poor tourists who are the majority of their business. I won't ever be back. I'll just make sure to make my own coffee at home from now on. Just to rub a little salt in, I'll probably drop by the next time I buy donuts from my local donut lady. I'll show them the business that they're losing from me and all because she decided to bend over a dollar to pick up a dime. It's too bad. He's such a lovely old man. Her...not so much. read more

My friend and I came here for the very first time yesterday after having eaten dinner at a nearby sushi restaurant because she was in the mood for a sweet dessert. She ordered a Maple Bar donut and a bottle of milk. The cashier was very nice in giving her a free extra donut since it was almost closing time. Besides selling donuts, coffee and cold drinks, I was surprised to see that this place sold other snacks such as cookies, chips, granola bars and bowls of instant noodle soup. I am working essentially in SF and this is one of very few options still open for take out (in the fisherman's wharf area) during the Covid -19 shelter in place. I was able to get this beautiful bagel breakfast sandwich, and a Vietnamese latte. Delicious and clean. Prices are very reasonable too! Also I noted that someone below said this place is cash only but when I went he took a card so maybe it's changed since then or during the Covid-19 it's easier. Happy to have stopped here for a quick breakfast. One of the few places open early in the area, I had their crispy jalapeño bagel toasted with cream cheese( which he laid on thick omg) it was fresh and soooo good. Also ordered a soy latte and it was just ok, but I'm very happy with the service I received from the kind sweet natured owner. Restroom was clean!
