I went there for lunch because it was suggested to me by a coworker. When I came in, it was pretty much empty so I was able to order right away. I got the BBQ Pork sandwich and the Vietnamese Iced Tea. I was given the iced tea right away and went to sit down to wait for the sandwich. The drink was very good and not overly sweet like some places make it. Definitely gave me a caffeine boost. The sandwich had a good taste and the bread that they used was a bit crusty on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The pickled veg was decent but I was not used to the raw onions in my Bahn Mi. Jalapenos was not spicy at all. The meat had a good taste to it, but was not quite the right color for me. I'm used to the bright red BBQ color, but the one I got was a grayish brown color. Overall worth hitting up if your in the area and craving a decent Bahn Mi Sandwich. read more

Loved it! Loooooved it! This establishment was located right around the hotel where my family and I were staying. We needed a quick breakfast before our Alcatraz excursion. I found this place on Yelp and I loved it. We ordered orange juices and coffee along with bagels and croissants. The gentleman behind the counter was so nice! He was a one man band. I hardly ever give bad reviews but I really want this place to mitigate - I am a local who cares...and needs my Vietnamese coffee fix during rough times. MY BAD Two mistakes today: (1) running toward the water on an empty stomach, instead of up the hill (2) thinking that all Vietnamese coffee made with Cafe Du Monde Coffee is created equal. This review is to give this place a chance to be better! If it's going to share a name with the Kearney location, it should also share its menu and quality! SERVICE Very sweet lady behind the counter here. Little gap in the communication though. We talked about my veggie options and I asked her if the pickled veggies were the same as the other locations - she said, "yes we have pickles" - umm ok. I asked for a veggie Vietnamese sandwich and pointed to what looked like a yummie one on the board; she gave me an American veggie sandwich - and a free old fashion donut- blah. I thanked her for the donut and repeated my original request describing what I wanted in great detail - she showed me the pickled veggies and asked if I wanted mayo and mustard with that - huh? FOOD I actually liked the pickled veggies - good flavor. The cilantro was very fresh and the bread was standard. The price was $6.50 - a couple of bucks more than other LE's. I was too curious to care. American sandwiches: seriously, I would only order one of these for a picky 5 year old - super simple. The donuts: not even for a beggar: super greasy and not worth the artery - free or otherwise...especially with IN and OUT around the corner. DRINK The Vietnamese coffee: The can in the window and my study schedule is what drew me in and started this mess. I don't know what happened here - it tasted like there was cheap vodka in it. I took a sip and tossed it - grr I really wanted one of these today. AMBIANCE Everything about it says "express:" grab and go. Great location, super small, super sunny, but no ventilation. BOTTOM LINE: Until they take a lesson from the other locations, customers keep walking. I think that this place could have a lot of potential, but they need to go back to the drawing board here. They would probably do better if they put more effort into making it better, seeing as there is potential for repeat customers. Everyone has their own opinions so that's why we have Yelp because you literally read and try to experience everyone's opinions, so that being said, everyone has a voice. This place was the only place opened in Fisherman's Wharf so we wanted to give it a try. This little, older Asian man was the only one working. It was fairly early and it wasn't that busy so we ordered a croissant sandwich and a bagel. The croissant sandwich was pretty good! I got it with turkey, tomatoes, cheese, mayo and lettuce. He kind of douses it in mayo so say light mayo. The only downfall at this place is its a CASH ONLY cafe so bring cash. But, yummy and delicious croissants, he makes them fresh. Glad I tried this place. Opens earlier than most places. The food was very good. Croissant sausage egg cheese sandwich was awesome. I'm not a fan of croissants but this one was soft, the sandwich was warm and moist, very good. Served good coffee too. Price pretty decent for the area. Just stopped by to grab some lattes and food for the family on Christmas morning. It was right around the corner from our hotel and quite unassuming as there's just a small sign for their shop. They told me to buy a bottle or they can charge me for a cup of water. It's business and I understand that all the same I'm a human and it was 90+ out today in SF. As a San Francisco local, I usually avoid going into the "tourist trap" area as really, most of what you find around there will be overpriced, mediocre, and too fast paced. Things changed for me when I found myself on a street away from the main "strip" at the waterfront, and I stumbled across this place. I noted that they had a club sandwich and placed an order for one from the very nice man behind the counter. I also ordered an iced coffee as well. The sandwich here is MASSIVE! I'm a carnivore of a cat, but I could barely finish this thing. It was such a good value and tasted absolutely delicious. The iced coffee I had here was perfect and exactly what I needed on that sunny but cool morning. I've returned here many times since and I always get the sandwich. This is a great little cafe that would be easy to miss if you didn't know it was there. I'm in town for a brief weekend visit and was looking for a place that was a quick walk from my hotel to grab some good coffee and breakfast. I saw some mixed reviews on this place but decided to try it anyways and really glad I did! I had an amazing hazelnut latte and sausage, egg, and cheese croissant made by the sweet older gentleman who I believe was running the whole shop himself. The pastries and donuts looked so amazing I also took a few to go for later. It's a small place, and being in the midst of all the tourist attractions I feel most would pass it by, but don't! I am somewhat surprise at the low rating given to this business. First of all, having been a cafe owner I know firsthand the long hours and physical hardship. Please don't compare a small mom&pop business over a franchise/corporate one. These are HARD working people who would wake up at 2 to 3 in the morning to bake the day's pastries, and spend hours clean up after closing. Do you even know that some of your favorite coffee shop sells day-old pastries that they bought from who know where? Things I pay attention to that the public usually overlook - like the cleanliness the floor and counter. When I say clean, I meant clear of old stains, dust, and clutter. It said a lot about how your food is prepared! Even with limited English, they are taking the chance to open for business. Try learning a new language at age 30 or even 40, go open a coffee shop, and having to deal with all types of people all day long. As for the food, the donuts taste like donuts. You want high-end ones, feel free to go spend $3 a piece at some new snooty "donut" shops. As for the Banh Mi, I been eating it since I was 3 years old in Vietnam. I thought the owner made a perfect Banh Mi, with all the right ingredients that a Banh Mi should have. Everyone has different taste bud & food preferences, I am just saying it taste like a normal VN sandwich. The price of Banh Mi is aligned the American sandwiches - which is considered cheap for a high-rent and tourist location. Come on guys, give the small business owner a break! He deserves 5 stars. I don't think many Yelpers realized the detriment their reviews are to these mom&pop business. If you care enough, tell them, and the good ones will improve on it and have you to thank for. Came here with an intense banh mi craving after work and got the combination sandwich. It was probably the most "meh" banh mi I've ever had. The bread was thick and rubbery and the fixins inside were sparse. I'm a sucker for donuts and while I had been to Krispy Kreme around the corner a couple of times I was looking for something bigger per donut and we found it forsure. It was buy two and get one free. But I ended up getting one donut for $1.25 (bargain) and they gave me two free donut holes. And it was so yum!!
