When I checked in for my mid-October, 2024 stay at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, not only was I given a $18 Daily Food & Beverage Credit for each night of my stay, I also received daily vouchers to use at Poached, the hotel's onsite breakfast buffet. Nice, thank you. Every morning, I would check in with my voucher at the host podium outside the entrance of the dining room and was seated within minutes. The entire Poached Space was always clean and tidy at every visit. Upon seating, a server would approach me to serve to me my choice of a Selection of Juices, Milk, Iced Tea, Hot Tea, or Coffee. Next to the dining room was where the buffet was set up. There was an array of Hot Selections (Bacon, Sausage, French Toast or Pancakes, Herbed Roasted Breakfast Potatoes, Scrambled Eggs, Steel Cut Oatmeal, Chef's Custom Selection Dim Sum), a Cold Selection section (Cold Mezza, Cheese Board & Deli Counter, Fresh Whole Fruit, Fresh Cut Fruit, Cereals and Cold Dairy Products) and baked items (Fresh Pastries and Breads, Assorted Gluten Free and Vegan Pastries and a Selection of Breads plus Condiments). The spread was nice. I loved their crispy bacon and oatmeal + toppings of dried & fresh fruit with seeds. The croissants were also good. I also enjoyed a bagel or two, but sometimes breads would get stuck in the toaster, resulting in a queue for guests to toast things. During the time of my visit, the Hilton SF Union Square was short staffed, so some of the team members working at the buffet were temps filling in. I was told that bringing plates up to rooms was forbidden, but one of the temps always made sure that I could bring a plate or bowl with me. If I wasn't given the vouchers for the complimentary breakfasts, I definitely would not have eaten here for ~$45/adult. The spread was substantial, but just a step above standard and nowhere near worth such a hefty price. For that amount, I would expect much more lavish offerings. read more

I made the same mistake as others. Did not bother to ask how much it was. I mean, it's a buffet, how much could it possibly be and I had a $25 food credit so I thought it was going to be a convenient and reasonably priced meal. For, One. Person. Poached offers no other option. It is the Breakfast Buffet or nothing. It's only a notch better than the breakfast that Hilton gives away for Free at Hampton Inn - the scrambled eggs are exactly the same. Presumably, the only reason you are reading this is because you're staying at the Hilton. You're probably in a hurry and you don't want some grab-n-go coffee-muffin thing. There are two good breakfast places very close by. Cafe Mason is one block away. In fact, if you get a table by the window you can see the Hilton hotel while you eat your perfectly fine $20 breakfast (with great hash browns) served with a smile. Or you can walk another 50 feet and have breakfast at Pinecrest 24-Hour Diner. The poor reviews are clearly from people without Hilton status that have to pay for the food. Is this buffet worth $40 a person? Definitely not. Is it worth it to come down and eat a large buffet for free before exploring the city? Absolutely. They offer your typical American breakfast options as well as some Asian fare as well. This included build your own miso soup, vegetable stir fry, rice, dumplings, and plenty more. The staff was very friendly and take care of you. They are knowledgeable on all the different breakfast coupons/vouchers for each status level within the hotel. They also explain that diamond members can order off their menu as well, which is a great way to skip the fake "eggs". Overall, quality buffet if you can get it for free as a diamond member. Definitely not worth $40 per person when you can walk anywhere for a local breakfast. read more

Con; It cost $39.99 but the real "Con" is they include a 15% service charge to each check, even if you eat alone like I did. I've never heard of them including their tip for one person. The food and service was amazing! Our waitress was very polite. The breakfast, was everything we could've wished for! I ordered the plain poached eggs but wish I had ordered a full breakfast like my partner had. The serving size for the French toast was less than expected, but the taste made up for the lack of food. It was mostly American staples like eggs, pancakes, bacon, yogurt, fruits and pastries. But they also had a small selection of Asian food like vegetable stir fry, steamed buns, congee and dim sum. Went to grab breakfast on a Friday morning. This was a pretty basic breakfast buffet with scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, and French toast as the hot options. There were also some pastries, fruit, cereal, and a few more cold options. Had the price been more reasonable, it all would have been fine - not great, not bad, just fine. But the price, which is not advertised anywhere, is about $50 a person. For that type of price, I would have expected an omelette station, espresso drinks, mimosas, etc. The food is fine, but you can get a better meal for a much more reasonable price at any number of restaurants around the neighborhood. read more

Food wise I would provide 3.5 stars because you do get a decent amount of variety. The congee and Asian offerings are there and decent. The congee was plain and totally unsalted. I thought that was weird. Their made to order eggs Benedict was perfect; I would definitely order that again. For the price of $39/full breakfast, I thought it was entirely too expensive. Fortunately, we had a hotel special that included it so we aren't mad about it. For something quick inside the hotel it's fine but you would probably get something a bit better when you step outside. read more

Lacking in all dining aspects. First, we were seated for breakfast with one of the few tables which had no place settings. We asked for them and went to go see what offerings the breakfast buffet had. A typical Hilton garden breakfast (this is not a Garden Inn). The eggs tasted like powder eggs. When we went back to our assigned table, we still had not received a table setting. After looking around cluelessly, we finally sat three tables over with a beautifully decorated table. We were almost finished with our mediocre breakfast when a waiter finally came over and asked us about our drinks and if we would like a made to order omelet. This would have been nice to know before we ate. We told the nice waiter about our experience when he asked the manger to see us. The manager was nice enough to make it right and took care our bill. By the way, that mediocre breakfast was $39.95 EACH for a buffet breakfast! We don't mind paying for an exceptional meal, but this was ridiculous. Save your money and eat somewhere else. read more

Stayed at Hilton and came here for breakfast. They had a salad bar for breakfast!! All veggies are fresh as well as cut fruits. So many choices on breads. This hotel breakfast restaurant is the most convenient and delicious setup for business travelers at the Hilton Union Square. Great perk for diamond members who are used to an executive club. Sami was our waiter this week and he was polite, attentive and really takes pride in making his customers happy. Food was fresh and berries were abundant. Oatmeal bar was chocked full of nuts and dried fruits, and the pastries were actually tasty as they even have a few that are savory. Great spending a week here. The morning started off by being blatantly ignored by the maitre d', who, when I finally (10min later) was able to get her attention away from gossiping with a coworker, took a rude tone with me and told me someone else would take care of our party. Then, the server who was ushering people to tables bypassed our party and helped the people in line behind us, and when I brought it up, o was essentially told to stay quiet and that someone would help me eventually. When I mentioned that I'd been staying at the hotel for a week, and that this hadn't happened before, I then got the speech of "our buffet costs this and this much and our continental breakfast costs this much", which, frankly, is exorbitantly overpriced. $40 for a mediocre buffet?! They don't even have real scrambled eggs, just the plasticky cafeteria stuff. Truly disappointed that this is what Hilton considers an appropriate guest experience. read more
