11/10/23: Decided to go to Laurel Diner as the reviews made it sound like we HAD to try it. Parking was available. Our party of 3 arrived at 11:30am for breakfast. They took our name at the cash register & we were told to wait outside as there's absolutely no extra space inside this tiny little restaurant. We waited about 25 minutes to be called. We were seated at the table by the door, so I was constantly bothered by the in/out foot traffic. It smelled like pancakes and grease in the air and the menu options were written all over the available wall space. The waitress seemed like she was overworked/ tired, and didn't have any pleasantries left to share. We ordered our morning drinks, 2 sets of short stacks (2 pancakes each), 2 orders of scrambled eggs, and one 3-pancake stack. Once the food arrived in a timely manner, the eggs disappeared before I even thought to get a photo (we were starving.) The pancakes were good. Not fluffy... more like flapjacks. For what we got, I feel the food is overpriced and not worth the long wait. The establishment is cash-only. We'll probably try other restaurants next time we travel through. read more

A great find. The first question we asked our waitress was about the corned beef. The corned beef is homemade!!! They had multiple dishes with the corned beef. I order the corned beef hash with two sunny eggs. I like this type of small place where you can see the cook making our meals. There is no back kitchen here. There are many wonderful restaurants in the Southbury, Connecticut marketplace. We have eaten in many of them and we've been pleased with many of them, but none has been more consistently outstanding than the Laurel Diner. Before the Covid Pandemic, during the Pandemic and throughout the ups and downs of our public health crisis Pete, Stephanie and the crew have gone out of their way to provide their wonderful fare in to the community. This is an outstanding place! Their varied breakfast menu can't be beat. Corned beef hash, eggs, omelettes, pancakes, French Toast, French Fries. Home Fries, Hash Browns, Home Fries... it's an exhausting list of lovingly prepared food to satisfy all ages and all palates! The Laurel Diner is a point of pride for all of us in Southbury. The food at Laurel Diner is great and the staff appeared to be enjoy their work, which makes for an exceptional experience all around. I find it interesting that all the 1 star reviews suggest going to Leo's. It's highly suspicious. Leo's is a different establishment and I enjoy eating there as well, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that if I read their Yelp reviews, I wouldn't find people bad-mouthing their establishment and sending folks to Laurel Diner. Reading these 1 star reviews has left a bad taste in my mouth. It will definitely color my experience next time I eat at Leo's. read more

Had a great experience at Laurel Diner a while back (finally getting around to writing this review). I was passing through the area from out of town and picked this diner over others in the area based on the great reviews and standout menu items. I am not from the area at all and I stuck out like a sore thumb (black girl from the city dining alone in a restaurant full of white people in a small town lol) but I walked in and even though they were very busy, when I caught the eye of a waitress I was immediately greeted with a "hello" and a smile! I sat at the counter and was pleasantly surprixwd by the great and prompt service, large selection of menu items and how genuinely nice everyone was. I was j decisive as usual but went with the namesake Laurel omelet and it did not disappoint! So delicious!! That would have been just fine by itself but it comes with fresh and yummy home foes and toast! And I'm a sucker for corned beef hash and they're is homemade with fresh beef so I had to try it out too. And just when I thought I was done ordering, I saw a gorgowua stack of pancakes come out and added one more thing to my order - fresh blueberry pancakes lol they were fluffy and fresh and amazing! Needleaa to say I did not finish everything on my plate, but had leftovers for later that day and the next which was awesome! Everything that came out looked soo good - the breakfast items, the burgers, even a simple tuna salad sandwich looked super yummy! Overall, it was a great visit and I most certainly will be back again whether I'm just passing though town or maybe I'll even grab a group of friends and we can make a special drive up for brunch! This is a very classic diner. It's small & simple, but don't let that fool you! The food is great and there are a lot of options on the menu. We stopped here while traveling through for a quick lunch. My husband said the pancakes were melt-in-your-mouth fluffy & delicious! My Denver omelet was generous and perfectly done. My teen boys ordered the cheeseburger with fries and the bacon cheese hotdog - they loved them!! The people were friendly and competent. It seems like a local favorite.
