Fantastic little diner located right off the highway. This place is well worth the detour off exit 14 on I84. We make this a frequent stops when I pass through I84. The service is so attentive and the food is excellent and all fresh. I attend many diners throughout the tri-state area and this is one of my favorite. Laurel Diner in Southbury is by far the best spot for breakfast In Connecticut. The hash and eggs special is my go to, as I am a big corn-beef hash guy and have yet to find better hash anywhere. I am a diner fan especially for breakfast. The Laurel is now one of my all time Connecticut favorites. The grill man (who BTW is a maestro) is right in front of you at the counter. Their corned beef hash is perhaps the best in the world. As are the pancakes (which are fluffy). Staff is very friendly. Coffee cup is a great mug and bottomless. Home fries and or hash brown are perfect. The seating is limited... the food is great. I cannot say more. This is a 5 star Connecticut diner. Do not miss it. read more

The food is consistently good here. I seem to always get the Laurel Omlette, it's my favorite. I swap the home fries for hash browns, which always come out very crispy! The hash is excellent as well. Expect slow service when they are busy, so try and get there early morning before there are a lot of people there. One time, when all the seats were full, it took 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge us, another 10 to get coffee and order, and then 20 more minutes for our food to get out. I knocked off a star for the inconsistent service and for questionable food handling. One visit, while sitting at the counter, I watched the cook crack a couple eggs into a bowl, and then, with egg on his hand, he picked out 4 pieces of toast from the toaster and buttered them. They belonged to me and my fiancé, and I got to confirm that sure enough there was egg on my toast. I skipped the toast that day. That said, I still went back! read more

Stopped in the morning of New Year's Day, and I have to say what a find! The serving portions are outstanding, and everything was delicious. I had the queen bee omelette, which came with roast potatoes/hashbrowns, and Italian bread. I never finish a full omelette but this one I did, it was so good! My boyfriend had the hash and cheese omelette, which was delicious. The service was great, it's a small little place but if you go and have a wait for a table it's worth it. read more

We came here all the way from Newtown because of the good reviews but it was disappointing...Don't believe the hype.. 1. Small and overcrowded, only two people cooking and two servers. Very slow. 2.Needs better ventilation. My clothes still smell like grease. 3.The french toast tasted like pure grease and bacon. 4.Pancakes were bland. Don't really know why it's so popular. I used my handy dandy Yelp app and once again it didn't fail me! I was heading to New Milford with a friend to Elephant Trunk Flea Market and we wanted to stop for breakfast along the route. This place was exactly what we were looking for! I had the Nutella stuffed French toast which was topped with strawberries & whipped cream and was delicious! Walk through the door, close your eyes, and suddenly its 60 years ago. It's small, so I personally prefer to come by myself so I can sit at the counter. Last time, watching all the food cooking away, I was ravenous. The whole place is just a trip - it is so great. I don't understand why other people can't make pancakes the way they can. "No Frills & Breakfast Thrills". On the busy road of Main St. South in Southbury, Ct. Among all the big stores, restaurants, and boutiques is a small diner that everyone in Southbury raves about. Laurel Diner is on the "Best of CT" list for diners in the Connecticut Magazine. And recently on the Fox61 News "Foodie Friday". They're known by the locals as having the best breakfast and homemade corned beef hash. When I heard about the corned beef hash I had to check it out. The No Frills atmosphere of the diner is somewhat drab. No decor, no curtains, and white marker board on all the walls so the chef/owner can write his daily specials on both ends of the diner. He obviously focuses all his attention on the food. All fresh ingredients cooked to order. I had the Irish Benedict. Toasted english muffins topped with homemade corned beef hash, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce served with a side of homefries. My wife had an omelet filled with sauteed kielbasa, roasted red peppers and american cheese with a side of homefries and rye toast. She loved it. Her only complaint was that the omelet was too small. She had to order an extra side of toast to fill her. We were watching the chef cook and the omelets looked like they were two eggs at best. I thought the irish benedict was excellent, but the corned beef hash was masked by the eggs and hollandaise sauce. So I ordered a side of hash to get a better taste of it on it's own. Very good hash. One of the best I've ever had. Our waitress, Josenia, was really cool, personable, and friendly. We listened to her sing to the music playing as she delivered breakfast orders. Can you believe I have lived in this area since 1998 and have probably said hundreds of times that I needed to have lunch here... It finally happened today. My husband and I were passing by and noticed that there was actually a spot to park, so we went in an ordered lunch. He ordered a bacon cheeseburger, and I ordered Cinnamon raisin french toast, and a side of home fries, since I had heard that the home fries were amazing.. The french toast was really pretty good... it wasn't just some generic bread, it was thick sliced. and very good. The home fries were insane. Would go back just to have another order of them... The cheeseburger my husband ordered was good, and cooked properly, and the french fries were excellent. We would probably try other things the next time as well, just for variety. Unfortunately they do not serve real maple syrup, though most places don't so if you are a syrup purist, you can always BYOB.. Service was fast, and our waitress was super nice. Its a small place, and although it was slow at the time we came in, it does get pretty packed, and seating is tight.. I probably would have had a meltdown if I had come in at a super busy time, just because of the closeness of it all. That being said, I love that it is simple and not the least bit pretentious. The food is excellent - 5/5. The ambience is great - family owned and run. They know their customers. Place is a little tight but tolerable and customers know what to expect. Parking mostly sufficient. Only downside is that when busy, things get overlooked like serving French toast and syrup ten minutes later, having to ask for butter, throwing two orders of a side on one person's plate leaving the other to wonder where their order was. The bill isn't always crystal clear and here, no offense, but if I had a buck for the number of times I find errors on my checks, I could by my own country. Finally, it's a little expensive. About $75 for breakfast for four and a 2 y/o but overall, a great place for breakfast or lunch! read more

All of seven tables and a dozen stools on the counter. Sweet staff. Quick service and kitchen. They pitch the Homemade Hash as amazing and I can attest, it truly is! Try it. You won't regret it.
