We first went to El Tiempo on this Friday evening, their other restaurant, but the wait was 25 min, so we went here. It was only half-full, odd it seemed for a Friday, and I found out why. The Happy Hour specials are only at the bar. I understand that for food, but why drinks??? Most restaurants offer HH throughout, so...we said the heck with that and ordered just water. Kind of our protest! I ordered the pork carne Asada. It was very tender and tasty, but extremely hot. I wish that the menu would have spelled out how hot it was. The fire ruined the taste. The waiter laughed when I told him that, saying the chef sautées the meat in garlic and Serrano peppers, which makes then hotter than jalapeños. The downside to eating this dish is that the corn tortillas are not homemade, but packaged, a big disappointment. I would expect homemade considering their extremely high prices. I probably will stick to El Tiempo, this place had too many downsides to return. Finally, the rice was the best part, pieces of cheese in it. But the beans, only a few spoonfuls in the smallest of bowls (see photos). I could have ordered more, at a ridiculous $6. a side order. Jeez. I did like the ambiance. We arrived for a 7:45pm reservation last night and were not provided a table because they had overbooked; moreover, the frazzled host would not even give us a timeframe on when a table could be expected. We left after waiting 25 minutes, including 10 spent standing by the bar waiting for a bartender to make eye contact with us (surprise: they didn't). One of the worst displays of collective customer service and wait staff morale I've ever seen. Simply put: if you can't honor reservations, don't take reservations. This has been one of our favorite restaurants in the past, but, on principle, I don't think we'll return. read more

Stopped by today around 2 o clock for thanksgiving lunch/dinner and it was amazing! The thanksgiving special they had was awesome and the portions were HUGE ! All of the staff was super nice and super helpful! Oscar our server was amazing ! He was on it from the second we sat down! I feel like once we ordered it come out immediately which was awesome! I ordered a glass of sangria which was really good, and like I said the thanksgiving meal was AMAZING. Just wanted to say thank you so much to all the amazing staff who had to work and be away from their families & friends today in order to be there and open! First time here at Laurenzo's and can't wait to go back to try their regular menu since everything was so good from beginning to end. 5 star alert!! I remember trying this spot out when they first opened up. I had the filet mignon Philly cheese steak that was amazing. This was quite a few years ago. Today we were celebrating my cousins 65th birthday and we had such an amazing time! Service: everyone here that works here is so nice and attentive. They kept out drinks full and all of the food was brought out at the order time. Food: crab cakes were so flavorful and tasty. I highly suggest getting them. The spinach dip was really good as well. The prime rib was so good and full of flavor. Every bite was just amazing! The cremated corn is very special. I have never raised creamed corn like this. It was so good it was almost like a dessert. Tasted a lot like Oreos. So good! The whipped mashed potatoes were amazing as well. The strawberry pie is so good! Trust me you will not be disappointed. I really cannot say enough good things about this place. I have been a couple of times in the past, but for brief encounters or a quick bite. This time was a bit different. Here are a few reasons Laurenzo's has my Five Star vote! Online Reservations: I made my reservation for two on the day of. The time we needed was early evening. I booked the time and headed that way. Since I arrived ahead of my dinner guest, I advised the hostess that I was there and would wait at the bar for the other party. She was so sweet and even showed me an available seat at the bar. (The small things mean a lot) The bar: I ordered a house wine from the lovely bartender & proceeded to wait for my dinner companion. Although she was a little busy, she was still very nice & made me feel welcomed. The arrival: Once my friend was inside, I met her at the host stand and we were promptly seated at a cozy booth in the middle/rear of the dining room. We had a window seat, which was lovely indeed! Our handsome server, Chase, came over to greet us quickly. He has a great positive and upbeat personality! It's always a nice treat to get great service from great people. We enjoyed his attentiveness. The meal: We shared a small queso w/chips - tasty! My friend had a small caesar salad topped with a nice serving of grilled salmon - scrumptious! The vibe is perfect for this time of year, cozy and nostalgic!! I started with the wedge and my husband had the greek salad, both were perfect! Fresh and chilled, just like salads should be! I am so torn about writing this review. I was tempted to give Laurenzo's 3 stars, however part of my experience was good, there were just so many negatives. If I could give them 3 1/2 I would. I do want to try them again because I have heard such wonderful things. I came here for brunch for Houston Restaurant weeks. The menu looked absolutely amazing! Too good to pass up! You really get a bang for your buck for the portions and what you pay. Let's start with the cons so we can end on a high note: 1) I ordered the artichoke as part of the pre-fix menu. It was my first course. The artichoke outter layers were extremely overcooked and you couldn't even bite into them to get the meat. I had to go in a few layers to get the good stuff, but unfortunately by the time you get to those layers there isn't much meat. 2) Our waiter came to check on us only once and it was pretty much when we had finished our entire meal. 3) I don't know if the restaurant is always cramped, but I experienced a hard time walking through table after table to use the restroom. The tables were definitely too close, almost as if they packed more in for brunch. It was hard to keep from bumping into other diners. Pros: 1)The grits were second to none! If they made it and packed it into large shipping containers I would stock my kitchen with it. The recipe is to die for! 2) Lots of parking. The area is known for cramped parking, however they get an A+ for their parking lot! 3) Trendy place that is packed! So it made the dining experience fun. As I mentioned I would really like to have a redo. I hear so many wonderful things about Laurenzo's that I feel like I need to give them another chance. Veal Tenderloin Marsala was over cooked, chewy and extremely salty. 2. A $38.99 12 Oz Prime Rib, this is my all time favor, it was just okay but the side Spinach was very very salty. 3. My experience at Laurenzo's was okay. I went here for a bridal shower and the service was good! Their spinach dip was honestly the best thing on the menu! I had an omelette for my meal which came with cheese grits and 2 crepe pancakes. The omelette wasn't what I expected..the veggies and meat wasn't cooked into the egg, it was just stuffed inside a folded egg which lacked flavor. First visit to Laurenzo's since the COVID lockdown, so I wasn't sure what to expect; changes, new menu, etc. But when we walked in, everything was the same except the menu. Which I'm sure had nothing to do with the COVID gap. I had a small wedge salad before my Fish and Chips ($20), which was really good, but $10 for half of 1/4 cut wedge was WAY overpriced (what other charge for a whole 1/4 and twice the toppings). It included a whole slice of bacon, which was strange, most wedges have "crumbled" bacon, not a slice on the side of the dish. The blue cheese was underwhelming, no chunks of blue cheese and a bit runny. Laurenzo's needs to check out the competition on wedge salads, as they don't come close. I do not recommend the wedge salad and would never get it again. Now to the Fish Chips... The waiter recommend them when I asked, he said it was "Halibut" and crispy. If it was Halibut, it was REALLY different that the hundred or so Halibut dishes I've had over the years. The fish was "fish stick" style, about 1-1/2" square and bout 5" long, and that was with the "batter", which was very "soggy" on the both and semi crispy on the top. Served with chips which were not "chips" but the tiny French Fries that you get a fast food (McDonalds) restaurant, but not nearly as good. We had party of five and three of the five had the prime rib, which I was lucky enough to get a taste of and it was delicious. Two guest had the 8 oz. cut ($34) and on had the 16 oz. cut ($50), which were served perfectly medium-rare and had a nice crust along the edges. Definitely the best dishes served to our group. However the baked potatoes and bake sweet potatoes were served just a bit warmer that room temperature, couldn't believe they'd serve food that wasn't hot. One guest had the Veal Picatta ($26), and said it was "OK", but had a thick breading rather than the thin covering of flour before frying. I tried a bit and the flavor was there, but the "breading" was a definite flaw. Plenty of nice capers in the sauce, but the artichoke wasn't up to par. Their sour dough bread served upon arrival was EXCELLENT!!! Don't bother with the dark bread, go straight for the sour dough. We snagged a couple of bottles of wine off there "close out" list (Starry Night Zin $26), which were a bargain for Laurenzo's based on their wine list prices. Wine prices at Laurenzo's are out of sight!! I saw a bottle of Silver Oak Alexander Valley for $225, retail is $85. A $13 bottle of Meiomi chard was $40. Most the wines were around 3 times retail. Not a place you want to go for the wine, have bottle of beer!! All in all, the food was good, not great, the service was average, and the ambiance with all the sports memorabilia was great. read more

Amazing dinner here! I believe our waiter was Michael. He was great. Very kind and patient. Their bread is good. I tried not to eat too much since we ordered a lot of food but ate most of it. We started with Caesar salads and crab cakes. Crab cakes are large. I should've skipped the salad. We then ordered the prime rib (medium rare) with macaroni and cheese plus an order of shrimp on the side. Everything was good. I probably should've ordered the prime rib medium but it was good. I would have preferred medium I think. The macaroni and cheese was good but not great, sauce is thin. I know some prefer that but I like my macaroni sauce a little thicker. I really enjoyed this place, cute atmosphere. Food was delicious! Service was good but could be better as far as suggestive selling and it was a little confusing with the lunch menu. Items said they were served with a choice of soup and I asked the server as well but they brought out no soup. I ordered the blackened prime rib wrap. The wrap was soft and delicious. Tasted homemade, had crisp romaine lettuce and avocado which was nice and fresh, the Caesar dressing in it was perfect and it complemented each other wonderfully. I opted not to get fries and get cream corn instead and it was amazing! My son had the meatball sandwich with fries. I had some of his and it was great as well. Boyfriend got the coconut shrimp with orange sauce and I enjoyed that as well. Wine list was good and they had some great sounding desserts as well. We came up on the restaurant from the backside and parked in the back right off Washington and it looked a little sketchy. Front looked much better and the patio was really small. We were seated at our reserved time. Our server patiently waited for everyone to view the menu then he took orders. Three salads (starters), two brunch orders of French toast w/ eggs, two Mother's day specials, and mixed fajitas/Durango. Three of the four alcoholic beverages (mimosas) arrived very quickly while the forth (a cocktail) took a while. The two Mother's day specials arrived plated incorrectly. Protein cooked to the wrong temp served with the right vegetable was served first to Dad then minutes later to Mom. The server was not present either time to correct the issue so the two swapped their proteins. Following dinner my mom desired the bread pudding dessert which she'd heard about only to be disappointed again when the server informed her they discontinued that item. It was removed from menus only weeks ago The result: three of our 5 diners enjoyed their food. Unfortunately the honored for the occasion, our Mother, didn't enjoy her dining experience at Laurenzo's. I'm torn about writing this review as we loved this spot pre-covid. To start, they are offering dine in service and their parking is very accomodating. When you first come in, they have a prevalent sign on the door which advises customers they will be temperature screened prior to service. My initial thought was not, "uggh what a pain", but rather good sign of taking the relevant precautions. We sat at the bar and their bartender Jorge was amazing. He was swamped yet attentive. He made great drinks, was personable and provided suggestions as requested. All was good after election day...we had drinks an appetizer and two entrees, but today the food is not the focus of this review. The food was good, typical, but they aren't cheap so you expect decent food. The story begins as we are finalizing our meal. After completing our meal and boxing leftovers, my wife looks over to the open kitchen to see: 1) multiple indivuals without masks as they EAT, DRINK and SERVE food!!! Ok fine, people can get complacent, but then 3 X's the MANAGER picked up food from the serving window, where the team was wearing their masks below their chins (some the same who were eating and drinking earlier) and said nothing. Thats the exact moment my wife said something. Its not about the comp (we tipped our server/bartender double the comp amount for his impeccable service), its not even about the issues explained above on their own merit, its the lack of quality, management supervision/quality and regulatory governance which irks me. If it has the Roland Laurenzo stamp on it (the esteemed family behind El Tiempo, 1308 and Ninfa's - amongst others), then it's gotta be good. But to first clear up any rumors or confusion, Laurenzo's is not a sports bar; Despite walls draped with athletic memorabilia, the family is simply displaying their passion for sports, so sorry, no 25-cent wings or big ass beer night. (That's why they recently changed their name from "Laurenzo's Grille Dello Sport" to just "Laurenzo's Grille.") But if you're a fan of their ongoing restaurant successes, you'll be pleased to know their famous 'ritas are on the menu, along with items like white chile con queso and chicken quesadillas, but that's as Tex-Mex they go! 'Cause here, it's all about the beef. The menu here is American, "specializing in roasted prime rib," with all beef grass-fed, 100 percent Black Angus, Texas- and Oklahoma-raised, hormone- and antibiotics-free. You'll also find items like seared sashimi-style ahi tuna steak, chicken breast napoli, baby back ribs, pork asado sandwich and burgers! I came here last night with my mind already set on the Green Chili Bacon Burger, as yelped by Adri A, but a seafood special caught my eye. It was the flounder. A crispy fried flounder in a white wine garlic butter sauce topped with a spicy, creamy white sauce of crawfish and jumbo shrimp, all stacked high above a bed of asparagus. I would certainly order this dish just to re-experience the melody of rich flavors. The only thing missing was a side of bread to sop up the remaining juices, which my date and I shamelessly took the liberty of requesting. Talk about cleaning my plate! And the 12oz New York strip steak was another plate that created some moans at the table. Cooked medium per our request, fine slices of beef melted in our mouths. And our server even brought out a sample of their prized prime rib. All which washed down perfectly with a glass of Pinot Noir. Yes, for a grille, the wine list is pretty extensive - by the bottle or the glass, including my favorites Nero D'Avola, Malbec, Chianti and Champagne. Margarita and beer list are appealing, but I do wish they featured some Saint Arnold brews. Don't skip out on dessert. As of now, they only feature their housemade chocolate bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and key lime pie. It's a tough call between the two, but splurge on the chocolate. This was almost worth fighting for at the table. As for the decor and service: I'd say that the Grille is dressy-casual, with a bar area featuring a full bar, flat screen TVs and a few cocktail tables to rest your drink, should the cold 'rita start to freeze your hand, of course, an open kitchen where you can watch Domenic Laurenzo and his team, booth seating, dark Brazilian woods ... it's a pleasant dining experience whether you indulge for lunch or dinner. Unfortunately for some reviews are based on other things besides the food quality and my most recent experience here requires me to make an adjustment sadly I have seen the service, presentation and portions sizes trend down and the prices trend up. Although my steak this visit was good a steak priced at $45.00 should be better than good. My issue is misrepresentation and failure to acknowledge deception when called out whether it was by accident or by design. I chose this restaurant tonight for a business meeting based on my multiple visits here. A few in our group including myself wanted to sub the hand cut fries for other side dishes no problem advertised price to sub $2.49 price charged $3.99 excuse that was explained to me was the menu is incorrect after the fact now listen I'm not complaining about the price my issue is how this was handled it's deception by any definition of the word. Other issues - no refills on the drinks the server never acknowledge the glasses were empty. - wrong side dishes served with entree when the correct side was brought out it too was charged as an extra side on the bill on top of the sub charges. - steaks were not cooked as ordered - a small cup of gumbo now is served in a tea cup half the normal size. The server was not apologetic and when we tactfully and quietly challenged the bill he ran away and came back to tell us the manager would be over. The manager never showed (this maybe the root cause here) the server half heartedly adjusted the bill and moved on, very disappointed I have had great experiences here so I hope this was just a bad day at Laurenzo's. I'm sure I will return so I am trying not to be reactive something seems broken here hopefully not. read more

This is the review for brunch. I'll be coming in for dinner and if the quality changes I'll change my review but for now all I can say is that I really enjoyed my visit here. There were ones with salmon and all kinds of cute brunch whimsical ingredients but I wanted a standard one with ham to see if they knew what they were doing. If you can't make a traditional eggs Benedict then what are you doing with your life. When it came out it was surprised by the size. Usually restaurants cut a English muffin in have and you get two poached egg but they just gave me muffin, ham, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. No second one, just with a side of grits and pico. I felt bamboozled until I had a bite and the dish is absolutely excellent. Balanced, perfect, and not heavy. I forgot to tell the waiter to swap out the grits because I had grits in general. I am so happy I didn't. These grits were amazing. I had no idea grits could be like this. Creamy and absolutely delicious. I don't know what addictive drugs they put in it but I am seriously craving it right now. Literally just want a taste. Had the fried Oysters... A little small compared to others. Some we're great, some chewy to the point that I could not eat. Coleslaw was a little chunky and hard to eat... Not bad but not a seafood restaurant. Will visit again. read more

My first visit to this restaurant and I know I'll be back. My son selected this restaurant to celebrate his birthday. The Food was delicious, served at the right temperture, and delievered to the right person, no questions asked. The plate presentation was simply nice and neat. The food was wonderful and everyone enjoyed their dish. Service was excellent and attentive, the beverages were refreshed without being asked. For my son's birthday they provided a complimentry mini chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and a very big sparkler. We were all suprised. The dessert plate was accented beautifully, and Happy Birthday was written along it's rim. They also placed a gold sign at his place setting. Ambiance was very nice, neat and comfortable. Leather chairs and table clothes. Lots of framed pictures of former athletes and jerseys on the wall. So if your a sports fan, you'd love it here. Dark wood walls, and cozy booths situated on each side. The tables were placed comfortably in the center, and enough spaced for a sense of privacy and the staff could move about safely. Old, but classy music was constantly playing and the thermostat was set perfectly. I was more than pleased with Laurenzo's and plan on returning soon. Thank you to Milton our waiter, who provided excellent service and recommended their strawberry pie, which had a shortbread cookie crust. I look forward to my next visit. read more

OMG! We went here a few days ago for our anniversary. Just the 2 of us and the restaurant was otherwise empty. We were early for our reservations and they seated us immediately. I had been here before with my ex husband (yes I know lol ) but my husband didn't care. It's close to our church and home and we pass it on Sundays to go to church so we figured it was time to go. We of course had the 10ox prime rib at my recommendation since I had it before. The old man wasn't crazy about the prices (he's always been a cheapskate lol) but he got the Cole slaw and I got the creamed spinach. We both loved our sides. The bread was bland according to him but I liked it, very soft and salty butter that seemed all homemade. The waiter was FAST! And excellent! Literally ordered, went to the bathroom, and our food was on the table in minutes. They set a new record. A mom and pop pizza place in the heights should take note (not naming names )I've not had that great of service in ages in Houston ! The best service I get is when I go back home to Louisiana to see family in the small town they live. Anyways, I wanted a dessert, he didn't, I asked the waiter about an Italian dessert I can't spell or pronounce (I'm Cajun we don't have that lol ) Panna something. He recommended it and I'm glad he did. My husband had 2 margaritas, he said that for the $11 price they were "too small"but he said they were strong and he liked that. We enjoyed it and brought most home for the kids. We will definitely be back when the babysitter is available again ! read more

Food was over priced and just mid at best. The service was good and the ambiance is eclectic. Prolly won't be back.
