I follow Shock N Shrimps Instagram and was super excited to see that they are available on the Lawrence's menu! Plant-based shrimp; yay! I ordered online for pick up, the 4-piece Shock B Shrimp. It's $11.99 for 4 or $22.99 for 8. The price point is quite disappointing. It should come with a side for those prices. I don't see myself purchasing again at the high price point. The perch was flaky and tasted like perch. However, the whitefish, a typically large flaky fish, was disappointing! There was more breading than fish. And it didn't have much flavor. The hot sauce was too sweet, but the tartar sauce was pretty tasty. The place was clean, kind of sterile actually. I normally stick to the shrimp. Sometimes I'll get the wings and crab cakes hear and there. I've always gotten nice service both from the cashier and those that came from the back to hand me my food. I think some are confusing RBF as bad attitude but when you work in the industry you understand that look. I had the occasion to visit Lawrence's as a result of visiting a friend in Chicago. It's a relatively large establishment although while I was there no one sat to eat. It seems more like a take-out place even though they do have a television that was on a movie that the cashier was watching and not news or sports for overall watching. I had the lightly breaded shrimp combo with onion rings and coleslaw. The onion rings were good but the coleslaw had too much vinegar, not enough sugar. The shrimp had too much breading for me. They also include a roll for the combo. They don't give you or offer tartar sauce or hot sauce which, where I come from, is standard. The seasoning of the shrimp was good but they didn't seem fresh. The coating was gritty not flaky. I suppose it is a good neighborhood joint but I didn't enjoy it overall and there are no salads or health conscious items on the menu. Had a taste for fish and shrimp last night. My dad said he has fond memories of going to the Canal Street restaurant and swears by their food so we decided to try the Hillside location. When we received our food, we were pissed....that we only got HALF ORDERS! Omg, they know what they are doing when it comes to breaded fried seafood! We got the cod nuggets (which I wouldn't call nugget because they were good sized) popcorn shrimp, and clams. Talk about cutting back! For $54, The lighter breaded shrimp is smaller and more expensive than the large shrimp. That doesn't make sense to me. For $54, the lady with the finger wave hairstyle and glasses behind the counter had as much personality as a dead tree! For $54, no malt vinegar for the fish. For $54, no ketchup was given to me initially for the fries. I'm too scared to ask for some after being charged extra for cocktail sauce, tartar sauce and hot sauce. For $54, I could have purchase an extra large pizza, pie cut, w/two toppings, two salads, two drinks, received utensils, straws, plates and service, greeted by a host, would not have been charged extra for cheese, pepper flakes and oregano, and would have had something left over for a reasonable tip! There was a some pros and cons. Some of the pros were how friendly the owners/employees were. I can tell it's a family owned business. The place is very clean and has a nice seafood themed interior design. I tried probably all the food. It was ok. The Poboy shrimp seemed dry. They sell their sauce and it is filled with bad ingredients, including high fructose corn syrup, so that really turned me off. I'm rooting for small businesses and hope they can improve their sauce by taking out harmful ingredients like HFC. If you're having a seafood craving, this will help you out! read more

I had been here last year and was pleased. Not so this time. My husband and I went to order lunch. I understand that we are all wearing masks at this time, but the man behind the counter, who had an accent to begin with, was very hard to understand. He said "Sauce!" and when I asked him what kind he had, he rattled off three choices, the last two were hot and bbq. So, not to incur anymore wrath, I said, "the first one," hoping it was tartar. When we got home, we opened the bag to find that the styrofoam container holding my half fish and chips and half popcorn shrimp was completely bowed from the heat of the food. The bottom of the square container was completely distended and round. Fortunately, there was paper in between the food and the melted styrofoam. As to the food, my husband's order of "fish and chips" was a brown paper bag half full of breaded fish, that looked like hushpuppies. No fries. So apparently the fish and chips ARE fish chips. $10.00 for a half bag of breaded fish. As for my half fish chips and half shrimp, the melted syrofoam container held five of these breaded fish chips disguised as hushpuppies, 6 small popcorn shrimp and a load of fries that tasted like they were reheated from yesterday's dinner. The fish chips were coated in something that was not at all crisp. I would have done better buying frozen fish sticks from the grocery store and baking them myself. I also ended up with a container of hot sauce and ONE container of tartar sauce. One small container for both of our orders. I will never go back to this place. Terrible. read more

We ordered half an order of coconut shrimp and they recommended a Thai chili sauce but they had run out so they made a batch just for us. If that's not service I don't know what is.
