Wish I could give this establishment 1 star for the unprofessional, rudeness we received when we tried to eat there this Sunday. My husband called and was told by the person that answered the phone that they were open all day. We made the 40 min drive to the restaurant arriving at 1:54. We were told at the door that they close at 2:00 and we were turned away. We told them what we were told when we called. It did not matter! I called and asked to talk to the manager and Nir Selma, the owner answered. I explained the situation to him and he could not care less. He said to go ahead and post my shitty review and that he would ban me from ever eating at Layered again...Like I would!! Unbelievable!!! What goes around comes around!!! Reply Wow! This is unbelievable!!! This owner downright lies! We never threatened anyone and the girl who told us on the phone they were open all day apologized to us. So very sad!! read more

It's a fun and vibrant atmosphere, the music is good, the food is AMAZING! The homemade jam is delicious. The specialty coffees come with a fun saying or picture on them. The only thing that still needs some work are the iPads the waitresses take your order on. They all seemed to take forever to take an order. Placed a to go order over the phone. When I arrived to pick it up only half the Order was there. Rather then saying sorry for the mistake,they said we didn't order anything else. Great new place in the downtown square! We got to watch them make really pretty, intricate cakes through the window in the back. The food was awesome and the mimosas were fresh every time. It's not like some places where they bring you a watered down pitcher; I watched them open a new champagne bottle just for us. Not to mention the reasonable prices! I literally just left this place and I'm actually upset about the service we got. Food was good which is a shame because we won't be going back. Ordered a macchiato and when it came out and I tasted it, it was crazy sweet. I asked the waitress if it was supposed to be that sweet and she looked at me like I didn't make sense and said "well it's a caramel macchiato so I guess so" IT DOESNT SAY THAT ITS A CARAMEL MACCHIATO on the menu. Which I'm fine with just don't look at me like I'm dumb. trade it for an americano which was good. Then ask waitress if she can tell us if the buns on the kids burger is egg free and which other kids menu items are as well(son is allergic) she goes to the kitchen and comes back and says they don't know so she can't say that any of them are without eggs. How do you not know what is in the food you are serving?! We weren't asking for anything special just what my our son could eat from the menu without getting sick. So we get the manager and he says that everything except the clearly marked bacon and eggs is egg free but he can't vouch for the burger buns being egg free because they aren't made in house. Which is fine, as long as we have some options for the kids we're okay. So we order the chicken fingers for the boys, breakfast burger (cooked medium sunny side egg on top) for me and the migas for my wife. Took at least 25 minutes to get any food which is ok because there were two baby showers going on and it's not a huge venue. So while they were making our sons food they decided they didn't know if it had eggs in it so rather than come out and ask us if there was something else we wanted, they just went ahead and made naked chicken breasts and brought that out. WITHOUT TALKING TO US FIRST. My son won't eat that and we would have ordered the pizza. Which we did and then cancelled because it was taking too long. My wife said the migas were we're probably the best she's had in a long time, and my burger was over cooked both the meat and the eggs (essentially over hard), but if it hadn't been I think it would have been great. Now I don't mind mistakes being made, but as a manager you should own them. I didn't want anything for free, but I was waiting for someone ANYONE to say sorry about the service or anything to that effect. Especially bring bringing out food we didnt order and expecting us to be ok with it. So my recommendation is maybe go when they aren't super busy, because the food was enjoyable but the service suffered. First time visiting this new spot. The food was very good. We had Migas, a Cuban sandwich, and the chicken chowder. Good size portions and again tasted great. Unfortunately we waited over an hour for our food. Empty coffee, tea and soda glasses for 30 minutes. Then when we finished our meal, dirty dishes sit for 20 minutes. They did not charge us for the cupcakes and I asked about it. They did say it was because of the wait. There was a manager there and that person should have went around to apologize to the customers for the long wait times. read more

Layered was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Our food came out wrong and cold. I ordered a salad, the steak came out cold, looked like processed meat, and tasted like an old hamburger patty. I never write reviews (this being the only one I have written) even if I don't have a great experience somewhere. The staff working didn't seem to care or talk to our table after a horrible experience either. I will never be returning and highly recommend not going to this restaurant. I wanted to love it...I truly, truly did. It's definitely got a very "hip" vibe to the place. Most of the staff seem to be trying very hard to make it a pleasant experience. We must have visited on an "off day" as the greeting we got was cold and even scornful, as I walked in with my 3yo son (who is 3...full of energy--but NOT disruptive in any way--saying that with a straight face). We ordered simple items--a few pastries to share and a small white mocha--non fat milk, extra hot. The pastries that were boxed were wrong--they gave us incorrect items. I didn't notice as I was keeping an eye on my toddler. The latte was lukewarm--which is my biggest annoyance. The cashier was clearly very annoyed that I did not tip her. Which, if you are simply ringing up my order--that is not deserving of a tip, IMHO. Once we tried the pastries they were very good. The Coffee Cake Cupcake was delicious. The cake pop's were overly dry..perhaps it's the fondant or the "frosting" they used. Not good. I hope to try the place once they have gotten past some growing pains. I am a bit believer in a 3-strike rule. But--advice to the staff--save the attitude and pretentiousness you direct to mom's out with toddlers. Our cash is just as good as anyone else's. read more

Sad to say this is not a recommend from me. My table had some brunch and it missed the mark for all of us. My table ordered migas, corned beef hash and the Layer Breakfast Plate. The migas were underwhelming, but the big issue is that we ordered one of two without jalepeno's and they came to the table and couldn't tell us which one didn't have them in it. The breakfast plate and the heirloom tomato salad was 50/50. Also, the plate came without the housemade jam. When we asked to bring it out, the jam was 50/50 as well. The bagel, which was a bread selection seemed like freezer case bagels and our table was catching a regular water drip from the piping above. Now, the space is comfortable and it is in downtown McKinney. But, they need to tighten up with the meals and service with them. You just don't come to the table and don't know which item had a specific order and then examine the plate at the table to see if you can figure out which one it is. read more

I have been here once before for coffee and a pastry and everything went well. Today I went for their brunch and it was very disappointing. My friends and I waited about 15 minutes to get our drink order once we were seated. My friend actually had to go get someone to get our order. The staff was not friendly at all. They seemed annoyed that we requested service. We went specifically for the bottomless mimosas and they were out, which was a bummer. We then had to wait for 45 minutes for our food to arrive. 2 plates out of 3 were wrong and all the food was on the cold side. The only reason I'm giving this place a 2 is because the food tasted okay, even though it was not hot. I really wanted to like this place because the atmosphere is cute, but I will not be going back. read more
