I liked their food a lot and went back many times. However, I gradually found there's always something missing in my take-out order. But it was too late when I already got home. It happened at least three times. The sauce I specifically requested to be put aside was missing. Once I even tried to empty the bag in front of the owner to ensure the sauce was there when I was picking up IN the restaurant, the owner made a gesture and guaranteed it was inside the bag. I trusted him and didn't finish the action and put everything back into the bag. BUT THE SAUCE WAS MISSING AGAIN WHEN I EMPTIED THE BAG AT HOME!!!! I am on a visit from India to my daughter's in Trumble CT, US of A. Giving me a ride home from my sister's in Fairfield, my son-in-law stopped at Layla's Falafel on Blackrock Turnpike for some takeaway - to save his wife or me the trouble of cooking for dinner after reaching home at the late hour it then was!. Thoughtful of him, but I told him there was dinner at home! Even so he wouldn't miss-out on the opportunity to pick up some from here - I could see the place was special and popular with them. They got some Lamb & Chicken special Arab Shawarma wraps, the chopped parsley Tabbouley salad, some hommus and pitah. While the order was getting ready, I looked around: No atmosphere nor ambience to talk about - no style either. But pleasant and friendly, courteous and excellent service. Prices I noticed, quite reasonable. Back home, found the Middle Eastern fare pretty good, fresh and enjoyable; the shawarma wraps indeed out of this world, a yummy ground-garlic-in-mayo sauce beside the great hommus.... mild on the palate, but with an engaging sting that followed the mouthfuls - something the loved ones warned me, would act on the belly only later. I started eating here about 5 years ago and have since been on a quest for a better falafel and it doesn't exist -- LAYLA'S IS THE BEST!!! I work next door to this place and it's as good as it gets in the area. The food is amazing to my standards so unless you're some major middle eastern food critic then you should love their stuff. For those haters leaving bad reviews, you guys should just eat grilled cheese sandwiches then cuz it seems like your taste in food is as bland as it can get. Hands down, the best Middle Eastern food in CT! My favorites are their chicken shawarma and falafel sandwiches (or, if you can't decide, you can get a shawafel), as well as their spinach pies, but you really can't go wrong no matter what you choose. An overall excellent store with authentic and delicious offerings. There are a few small tables but takeout is common. The Falafel, as one would expect, is top notch. Also, the 6$ for a chicken shwarma wrap is unbeatable (I highly recommend asking for tahini and their hot sauce on the side (made in-house). The Arabic Chicken Shwarma is also excellent. The staff who run the place are nice but no B.S.--they work hard and don't get tipped often or enough to deal politely with some of their more fussy (I'm talking incredibly demanding) customers. read more

Great little hole in the wall! Everything is fresh and they are very amenable to adjusting the menu items (no onions, extra sauce, etc.) Just make sure you check your take out order before you leave - the staff is authentically foreign and an order can be mixed up on occasion. read more

The ambiance as a restaurant is bare bones, but Layla herself is a rare beauty (besides running a great kitchen) so there are compensations for the formica. If you don't know what something on display is, but you see there's a lot of it, ask, because it's just made fresh and it's going to be extra good. My only comment is the bread which we found a bit too thick as opposed to the thin, easy to fill pita bread we get from Arabic bread bakery in Danbury. Will definitely return. read more
