What a disappointment! Decided to bring home dinner from Layla's last night after hearing really good things about it. We ordered 2 Shawarma platters, one chicken and one lamb. Though the accompanying hummus and pita were quite good, both shawarmas were awful. The meat was dry and chewy as if it was leftover from yesterday. Wow, I mean WOW! I think it's is safe to say that this is the best falafel, humus and shawarma I have had out side of the Middle East. The food is amazing and made by people who could not be kinder or more welcoming. If you like real Lebanese food and have had a hard time finding it... look no further! Food is always good and fresh (4 stars) and orders are correct 90% of the time (-1 star for the occasional missing side item) but I was disappointed with the $3.25 piece of Baklava. (- 1 star) Very small and thin, very thin layer of minced nuts.). I have made Baklava several times and recognize that it takes time and that nuts and honey are not cheap. But, for the price would have expected a piece at least several layers taller or more generous. Will be back for food but will skip the baklava. Great food but tonight was the worst service...called an order in and when I came to pick it up they said wait 2 minutes something wasn't ready. Waited 20 more minutes before leaving as everyone was ignoring me and taking other orders. Fresh and delicious food. I'm a pescatarian, so finding clean meals to accommodate my dietary needs are a plus. Their Falafal is the best around- having tried multiple places- I will not settle for anything less than Layla's. My only suggestion for Layla's: When applying the sauces on the pita sandwiches, please spread the sauce out more. It ends up being on only one side, which is not very appetizing. Wish I lived closer. Hit this place up while driving back to NH one afternoon for lunch. We frequent falafel spots often and this one was superb. Food was amazing and very decently priced, but the owner is where this place really shines. Such a warm, welcoming, and accommodating gentleman, makes the place really stand out. Not surprisingly, the restaurant was packed to standing room only during the lunch rush and the owner was out in the crowd making sure everyone was happy. Nobody seemed to mind waiting. He came to our table several times to assure us our order was coming soon, even though it wasn't taking long. He brought us our order and then came back with a big side of fresh hummus on the house. Probably the best hummus I've ever had. Velvety and creamy, drizzled with olive oil and garnished beautifully. Do yourself a favor and experience this place. You will not be disappointed. read more

The owner daughter threw the money on me and tell me it my restaurant. I was a customer fo 15 years . We had just got done moving into Fairfield and wanted to try a local takeout place, so we went for Layla's. I had heard things from friends about their location in Stamford, about how great the food was. We ordered a Chicken Shwafel sandwich which was actually good, but not really warm at all. A lamb kabob platter, which also was not very warm and the lamb was a bit over cooked And then just an appetizer platter, okay flavors, but the falafel was not warm. You may notice a trend here, the food was not warm. We ordered and they said 20 minutes, and arrived in exactly 20 minutes, it was obvious the food had been sitting there a while when we arrived. Maybe this place isn't good for takeout, but there is only about 3 tables in the place so not sure we would go there to eat in. Overall: Flavor of food was pretty good, quality of ingredients was probably average, and experience of takeout was just plain bad. Not sure that I will try it again even thought I was excited to be living close to a "good" Middle Eastern place. read more

The food is very good and the small understaffed restaurant can get overwhelmed. But Layla's does not handle their good fortune gracefully. The person handling the counter in Fairfield was snarky and rude on Sunday - almost as if he were angry that so many people wanted to eat their food. We ordered 2lbs of kafta kabob but only got a 1.5 lbs (I weighed it at home.) Instead of paying $12.99/lb, I paid $17+/lb. I asked the counter person if it was really 2lbs of meat and he practically ripped my head off. It is bad enough to feel cheated but to be intimidated in the process? The food is good but not good enough to pay over 30 percent over the stated prices and be yelled at while doing so. read more

Being an Egyptian living in CT, it's really hard to find Arabic food remotely comparable to the food back home. However, I believe it hit the jackpot with Layla's falafel. The food is too good to describe. I had the mixed shawarma platter, the fried eggplants, the baba ghanoush, the taboula and the falafel platter. Every single dish was absolutely delicious. The food is authentic and tastes like a piece of home. I've finally found somewhere with authentic middle eastern food done right. I've been eating at Layla's for nearly 20 years. I started going there in college and I've never stopped. My wife and I make Layla's a regular part of our dining out repertoire. I have noticed a drop in the quality of the food at this location. I have been coming here for 17 years and the last couple years I have seen a decline in the preparation of the food. The inconsistent cooking is annoying , my favorite wrap is the chicken wrap . The chicken is usually way over cooked and on a couple occasions so was the wrap My last experience was really disappointing , instead of chicken cubes they had cut it into tiny pieces , not at all enjoyable Sorry , really used to love this place read more
