They also completely lack empathy when you have a newborn in the car, or have sent someone else out of their way to pick food up. Customers appreciate an honest assessment of wait times. We don't care if it's 5 minutes or 50 minutes but we like our food hot and just need to plan accordingly. Be honest about your wait times and show some empathy when you completely miss the mark. This is great Middle-Eastern quinine. As soon as you walk in, you know its authentic. The falafel is delicious, but despite the name, the shawarma is the shining star of this place. Lamb or chicken, you cant go wrong. The hummus is excellent as well, and their daily side specials are fantastic. (Things like ratatouille, lemon spinach salad, and roasted eggplant) I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Za'atar breads. They import their spices specially from their home region. I ordered some stuff to bring home too. I ordered sides of falafel and spinach pie and two slices of baklava. The falafel was SO dry. It was pretty bad... it was overly fried and had no flavor. Come on for a falafel place, make a better falafel! The spinach pie was a little different from what I was expecting. I was expecting spanakopita and this pie had onion and spinach only no cheese. Even when the food back home (Beirut - Lebanon) is ten times better, I am proud to say that Layla's Falafel is a good alternative. Not the typical Lamb and chicken Chawarmas you get in Beirut but very close to it. My only complaint is that I wish they used the arabic bread, or what you call here pita, rather than the flour tortilla. The falafel is good, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside! The Arabic Chicken Shawarma will change your life... for the better. It is the best piece of food that I have eaten for less than ten dollars in Connecticut. Hands down. The chicken is tender and juicy, and the garlic cream dipping sauce is just fucking epic. I'm not sure how else to put it; you'll understand if you ever have it. Also, their falafel is the best I've ever had. I guess that shouldn't have been surprising as the place is called "Layla's Falafel," but anyway, the falafel has that dry, crunchy outside, but they manage to keep the stuff in the middle moist, and the combination just makes it a worthwhile experience (as compared to the very common mediocre falafel that is dry through and through and can be found at many middle eastern restaurants throughout our great country). As a guy who loves burgers and chicken wings I LOVE Layla's. No doubt my favorite healthy lunch option in the area. The falafel is fantastic as is the chicken shawarma. You could fill up only eating half a wrap, bam, you have food for later and you saved some dough. I need to explore more of the menu but I love what I've had so far. I brought my mom for lunch this week; she was singing praises too. Service is super nice and you don't have to wait long for your order. I've never had a problem with seating but there isn't a lot of room to sit down; The only possible negative I can find but it hasn't proved an issue. There aren't many falafel options in the area at all so I'll give Layla's a break, but it's only mediocre at best. They always manage to forget something if you'd ordering out, so you'd best check before you leave the store. The hummus strikes me as very bland, but it does help to keep the falafel sandwich from being a dry, brick-like mass of chickpea mush. The fried eggplant is the best thing they offer, so make sure you spring for the falafel deluxe, as the standard doesn't include it. ( 5 stars) -- place: more like a hole-in-the-wall type of fast food stall, meant for take out more than eat-in -- price: (3 stars) middle eastern food and falafel were suppose to be cheap eats, but here it still costs an arm and a leg, priced equal to some nice sit down restaurant... definitely over priced for this type of casual food and the store front. --food: $14 for lamb shawera plate, $12 for arabic lamb shawera w/ garlic dip... As an Israeli, I can't express how nice it is to have Layla's Falafel in the area. The people are super friendly, the food is delicious and authentic (though not in the Israeli style), and the prices are reasonable. In case there are other Israelis in the area (or people who are interested in trying Israeli-style food), you should make sure to take an active role in telling them what to put in your shawarma. They default to what I think is a Lebanese preparation, with lettuce, garlic sauce, etc. -- definitely a different animal from the standard Israeli version (just hummus, tahina, salat, and skhug). And to my knowledge, they don't have french fries to put in the pita (sad!). But if you just ask for what you want, I'm pretty confident in saying that you'll be happy with the result. read more

We stopped here on our way home to Maryland from Cape Cod. It was one of the options on Google's "Around Here." It was about 1 mile off the Merritt Parkway. Parking out front in a strip mall. We were greeted by wonderful fragrances upon entering. We sat down and the owner came with menus. He was very personable, funny and charming. Asked if we had been there before and when we answered, "No," he made some suggestions that were truly fantastic. Seems to be a local place with several other places in the area. The food we had was fantastic. We had a side of baba ganoush. The best we have ever had. Their garlic sauce is amazing. what an accompaniment to the other food we were served. I had a falafel deluxe sandwich on Pita. My wife had the Fatoush Deluxe Salad with Chicken. Both were outstanding! We have found a wonderful place to stop for lunch when we are i the neighborhood. What a horrible experience we had there today.. Been going to all the locations for many many years. The Fairfield location is our go to - as we are usually stopping in for take out on our drives back from NY to the northern part of the state. We have been noticing for a while that the quality has been going down - but what happened today, with the customer service, will keep us from ever returning... We placed our order. We then waited for almost 40 minutes. Twice I asked how much longer and was given excuses by the new girl at the register. During our excessive wait ( and it wasnt crowded at all ) We watched her, and other staff members grabbing the pita bread with their dirty hands that they were using to take money and other stuff. We also watched her grab food with her hands and put it in her mouth.. And Id love to know who she kept texting with on her phone.. over and over and over and over again.. Finally as it appears our food is finally done - I go through the bag -and all but 1 thing we ordered was wrong. It wasn't even a complicated order. A chicken shwarma salad that had no chicken. Just a plate of lettuce. No Hummus and no garlic sauce. She sends it back - the cook puts very hot chicken off the grill onto the salad... By the time we actually ate it it was completely wilted.. The chicken is beyond overcooked. Its like jerky . ( BTW - there was no chicken on the spit.. and the lamb was just sitting there with the heating element off and not spinning ) . When I asked her about the sides - she was kinda rude to me - and went back and got what was supposed to be in the bag... Not til we got on the road did we notice we now have 4 containers of Tahini - and not what was supposed to be included.. We also ordered Kibbe Balls - and I said to her we wanted them hot - she told me they were - even though we watched her pull them out of the fridge.. We take them out in the car - yep - they were cold.... The Platter was messed up also - When I then asked where the Pita was - she looked at me weird - and Asked - do you even know what is supposed to be in the orders - its all on the menu - Her Reply - We are busy... Um..... I'm not sure how that applies here. You have 1 job - do it right - don't talk on your phone - don't grab peoples food with your dirty hands. Don't look like a deer in headlights when a customer who is paying good money for what is supposed to be quality food. I can understand if 1 thing was messed up. But to make customers wait for an excessive time, then to completely mess up the orders from both the production line and also the bagging line - and then to make the customer feel uncomfortable when asking for things to be made right - is what will close a business for good. Unfortunately today's visit has ended a very long relationship with Layla's. ( and as a side note - everyone could see that my family was clearly upset by what was happening - as were other customers - at no point did anyone say we are sorry... No one offered to make it up to us.. We should have asked for our money back and left. read more

I love spicy food. I love food with a strong punch of flavor. A well made falafel satisfies that craving for me...every time. So when I crave a falafel sandwich...I go to the best place in Fairfield County: Layla's Falafel in Stamford. One bite off of their falafel sandwich - and I am in heaven! It's like an explosion of flavors. I always ask them to add some hot sauce when they make mine. That heat of the hot sauce along with the calming yet a bit tangy flavor of the sesame based tahini sauce, and soft textures of the falafel balls paired with the crunchiness of the diced veggies all rolled into one wrap - is like a party in my mouth. Another delicious item on their menu is Baba Ghanoush. If you have ever tried Baba Ghanoush, you know that it has that amazing smoky flavor. It's because the eggplants are roasted on an open fire until the outside is charred and inside is soft and mushy. The peel is then taken off, and Baba Ghanoush is made with addition of diced onions, tomatoes, garlic, dash of lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste. A very similar dish is made in Indian households as well. It's called Baingan Ka Bharta. Same idea with cooking it... except Indians will add some diced green chillies and chopped coriander leaves to turn up the volume. TIP: Roasting an eggplant can be a very messy and time-consuming job. So, I was very excited to find that Layla's Falafel sells these roasted eggplants to anyone who wants to make their own Baba Ghanoush or Baingan Ka Bharta or whatever else takes their fancy. I have to say that the smoky flavor in their eggplant is right on. read more

I've been eating here for years but the last two times I've been dissatisfied with the same platter I've ordered dozens of times. The lamb seems to be very different than in years past. Not nearly as moist and what I'll call chalky (dry) and less tasty, seems like they may buying lesser quality meat. Or cooking it too long. Or something. But now that it's been the same two times in a row, it's going to be a long time until I go back. Bummed. Positive though is the service. And the tabouli was delicious.
