Better than Raisin Canes? We wanted to try this out after hearing people say it's better than Canes. We got 2 orders of the 3 finger combo with spicy tenders, Layne's sauce, Jalapeno Ranch sauce, and honey mustard sauce. The order came out super quick and the chicken was piping hot, the fries were really crunchy too. The toast was eh compared to Canes, but the spicy chicken was really juicy and much more seasoned compared to Canes. The Layne's sauce packed a bunch of flavor and it was a bit salty once you eat too much. My boyfriend loves the Jalapeno ranch sauce and he preferred it over the Layne's sauce. The honey mustard sauce was eh, it didn't go well with anything. They do charged about 60 cent more for those custom sauces though. The tenders were really small but Canes' tenders are about the same size I would say, they just have more batter. But Layne definitely gives more fries and the fries are better, too. The prices are similar to Canes but Layne is a tiny bit more expensive. I wish they have more locations around but I would definitely come back again! read more

I decided to try Layne's Chicken Fingers for the first time and ordered the kids' chicken finger meal. The chicken itself was decent--nothing amazing, but not bad either. The Layne's sauce was definitely a highlight and added good flavor. The restaurant was clean, and I liked that there are both indoor and outdoor seating options. However, the floor near the tea drink area was a bit slippery, which is something to be aware of. Unfortunately, a couple of things fell short for me. The toast was surprisingly cold and soggy, which was disappointing, and I didn't really enjoy the fries either. I did enjoy the music selection while dinning. Overall, it was an okay experience. Every time I come through she is always upset about something. I make sure to be extra polite to service workers because I know customers can get out of hand sometimes. We usually pick up a fried chicken meal every couple of weeks from Raising Cane on Custer near 121. Alway very good, but Layne's is much closer. So we decided to give them another try. I liked the fact that they had a spicy chicken in addition to the original. It was delicious, as was the original. Were the pieces smaller than their competition? Maybe, but not by much. The fries were good but I prefer my Texas toast to be toasted on both sides of the bread. We both think that Raising Cane has a better tasting sauce. Both businesses have friendly staff at the drive through window. But overall, we were pleased with the meal and we'll be going back again to Layne's. read more

We stopped by Layne's on the way home today. We ate there once before and it was good. My husband placed our order online for pickup. He wanted to ask for the fries to be extra crispy, but the app did not allow that. It's not a deal breaker, but good to know. We went through the drive through and were told we had to come inside to pick up our mobile order. I even asked to clarify because I'm in a boot and it's no small feat to go inside. Not only did we have to do that but we also had to wait in the drive-thru line since we were already there. We ordered two sauces, per the options offered. We only received the gravy and not the Layne's sauce. The fries and toast were limp and we had to put them in the oven for a few minutes. The spicy tenders had a good spice level to them but were darkly cooked and very dry. Overall, this was a very disappointing visit with terrible customer service. If I created this review a year or two ago, it would have been 5 star. I loved Layne's, and preferred it to Canes by a lot. But this isn't a year ago, and Layne's has really gone downhill. The portions are smaller, the prices are higher, and the quality has gone downhill. Not just at this location, but at all the locations I have visited over the past year, so I know the portions and prices are a corporate issue. The three finger combo, which I have been getting for years, used to be 3 good size fingers and a large side of fries. I would say the fingers are now half the size they used to be, and the fries are about half what they were as well. The whole things used to come in a container nearly twice the size. And on top of this the price has gone up to over $10 with tax. The worst part is that the fries are starting to taste old, and the chicken fingers often have various levels of heat, meaning they are sitting under a heat lamp instead of coming fresh out of a fryer. The founder of Layne's retired 2 years ago, and corporate is on an exponential expansion plan. It shouldn't come as any surprise what has happened, but I was at least hopeful this one would be different. Nope. On the bright side, service is generally good and fast. read more

The chicken is moist, not dry and delicious and when you dip it in their sauce the more tastier it is. Young adults and young family were dining in when we came in for lunch. Been passing Laynes for about a year now and decided to stop in and check them out. I was the only one in the restaurant, so I felt like I could take my time and check out the menu. I was warmly greeted by the woman behind the counter and given some great guidance. She told me that everything is customizable, so if you don't want toast you can get extra fries or vice versa. I told her that my mom and I would be splitting a meal, so at first she recommended getting two three piece boxes as we could each get our own drink. But, I asked how much it would be for a five piece and to add three extra tenders. The latter turned out to be less expensive, so I went with that. While I waited for my food, as they make it to order, I checked out their teas. Their tea was amazing. I did a 75% unsweetened to 25% sweetend mix and it was just right. Tried the chicken tenders and fries and they were food. Definitely a good value for the price. I liked the variery of sauces (their house made sauce is the best one) and that I had the option to swap things out. Also, because it was my first time there the lady gave me all of the sauces to try.. However, the fries were a little softer than I would liked and it does very much remind me of RC--nothing really wowed me about the food. But, the tea and customer service was great! read more

I decided to try Layne's just as I was passing by. The menu is pretty basic - chicken fingers and sides. I chose the 4 finger meal. I saw some reviews comparing Layne's to Raising Canes. I don't know how long Layne's has been in business since I only found them in the Dallas area. I can tell you that Raising Canes has been in business since 1996. I was one of their first customers when I attended LSU in Baton Rouge, LA. Now, they're all over the world. Moving forward - It's okay to compare but Layne's has some things that I like. I like the toast. It's toasted and buttered really well. I also like that Layne's chicken fingers are crispier. The food has really good flavor. Overall, this place has good chicken fingers. I came through right around 10:30 on a Sunday, right as their dine-in area was closing for the night, and the staff was kind enough to let me use their bathroom then, which gave me a good impression of them, as they could have turned me away, since they were about to close apart from their drive through. Good customer service! Going through the drive through, I ordered the 5-piece tenders with fries and an extra Layne's sauce, with 3 regular and 2 spicy. They even threw in a side of gravy upon request, at no charge! The chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful, and although the spicy variety offered a nice kick, I think I preferred the traditional tenders with just salt and pepper - the flavor was so good, I don't think it needed anything else! The fries were crispy and deliciously seasoned, and the Layne's sauce was mouth-watering: spicy, tangy, and ever-so-slightly vinegar-y. The gravy was good as well - just a standard white gravy with pepper, but it complimented the fries and tenders well. I hardly ever leave reviews, unless I find it really necessary, like when a business is excellent or terrible. And here's one that's terrible. I do Uber Eats and had two pickups and the manager said that it would be ready in 3 minutes but I waited 20 and had to ask them several times about it and they would look at me all indifferent and half ignoring me. One of them said that yeah it was still being prepared without even going to the back to check on it or even ask anyone else about it. Then it turns out they didn't even start it because they accidentally skipped BOTH orders. So I just left. That's fucking unacceptable. They had like 7 workers just standing there doing absolutely nothing for a moment just to tell me that they didn't even start the orders yet. I was so pissed but I'm not one to lash out or cuss at them so I just left quietly. Another thing, they even had a really old hunched over man with a cane waiting a long time for his food and had the food sitting there on the counter for several minutes before giving it to him. When they called his name and he received it, he was like "yeah, I figured that was mine and I saw it sitting there for a while." And to top it off, his order was 2 bags and a gallon of lemonade which there's no way he was gonna be able to carry that out on his own and none of the workers offered help, so I jumped in and offered him myself. Our family LOVES Layne's! BUT, I have to say this place is pretty disgusting and unclean. Every time we visit MOST of the tables are not clean. Plus, we ate here two weeks in a row. One week my baby had a little yogurt bite snack stuck to her butt. We didn't notice until we pulled her out of the seat to leave... the next week IT WAS STILL ON THE HIGH CHAIR! So gross. We stopped to eat at Layne's on Labor Day. Not very crowded, it was about 12:30 Lunch time. Never heard of this place so we thought we would give it a try. I'm all about customer service, and let me tell you.... If look's could kill we would have been dead when we walked up to order. No hello No what would you like just stared at us. I almost lost my appetite from the rudeness of cashier. If I had not been so hungry I think we would have left. We placed our order and sat down. The same cashier brought our food to the table. I kindly asked do you have gravy. She looked at me and said you don't want that pointing at my food. I said yes but I would like gravy as well. Don't use the convenience of ordering from Laynes.com bc they use DoorDash to fulfill those orders. You end up paying the 20% DD fee, even if you pick up food yourself: that can make a big difference to a consumer ordering multiple meals for a family. I challenged the employee to explain how this makes any sense and he told me it was because of corporate decision making. Did not waste any more time at Layne's. Why did I not try this place for chicken fingers before? Been driving past this location (75 and MCDermott) everyday since this location opened. Did you know you can purchase a box of 20 or 25 (or any count of 5) and they will make the box for you. You aren't limited to the family pack (though they are a great option if you want Texas toast and crimped French fries. You get to choose the sauces that you want to go with your chicken fingers. Highly recommend the layne's sauce (a must) and the honey mustard! My kiddos love it just with ketchup. The chicken fingers have a great crunchy batter and they hold their crunch even the day after and very yummy when you toast them up again. Not all chicken fingers hold up to this test. If you were lucky to snag an Allen Eagle food discount card, Laynes honors it! It's a great discount! read more

I couldn't be more disappointed- We have LOVED Laynes grilled chicken wraps. They come pretty hearty in a green tortilla full of veg and grilled chicken. Tonight we were craving it (especially after going through the drive through the other night at 5:20pm and then telling us they were out of the wraps!) We swung through tonight in hopes of getting what we've always received and instead, got a dinky combo with a MUCH smaller wrap/ not a green tortilla. The service at this location has really gone downhill. I ordered fries with no salt and they were loaded with salt. The girl up front says she forgot to tell them. Then they bring me another basket with my food which still are salted fries and then she brings over a different basket (3rd one) as they gave me the wrong fries again. Oh and no ice in lobby! Being an Aggie and fond of all things Texas A&M-ish, I had to try this place that was founded by Aggies to feed Aggies. Get the idea? My blood is about as maroon as the paint job outside this maroon and white building. Although I wish there was more to the menu besides chicken, they do know how to make amazing chicken strips. Seriously, these are great chicken strips. Really good. The other sides, well, note there are only 4 stars on my review. Kind of pricey and I guess this is based upon how rich the owning Aggies want to be. I'll pay the high price again as the chicken strips were that good. Ice is no longer available in the drinks at Layne's Chicken in Allen. The Aggie who knew the recipe quit. It is with this joke I jump into my review of Aggie-ran Layne's Chicken. It's impossible to be unbiased when it comes to both Texas A&M and to chicken fingers, but I'll try and do it justice. Just to get it out of the way, Texas A&M alumni started this joint in College Station. It was super hard those first years as they were not able to raise chicken on account of them planting the eggs too deep in the ground they say. They soon figured out that chickens can be bought and BAM...another competitor was thrown into the mix. I'll preface this with saying I didn't compare them to Chik-Fil-A as for me, that's not the exact business model. In my opinion they are more closely aligned with Cane's or, my personal favorite, the now shuttered PDQ franchise. So I compared it more to those two. Immediately I have to tell you the store is clean (unlike Johnny Football). However, like Manziel most of the teenage workers here do not have their heads in the game. While I was ordering the teen taking my order kept turning around and talking to Austin or some other male teen who didn't really care I was giving him the mom stare. That's a pet peeve of mine: If I'm trying to give you money, I expect your time. Not that you need much time here (that joke wrote itself): They have a super limited menu, more so than the other two. You can either get a 5 piece or a 3 piece or you can stick the three pieces in some Texas toast for a sandwich. I was a bit thrown there was no salad, which PDQ made a delicious one, but I guess they were trying to keep it simple. I got the #1 because it came with potato salad. I also ordered two kids' meals. We had to remind the teen taking our order to give us cups because, again, Austin was freaking hilarious by her standards. She was so caught up with him that our drink request needed to wait. I'm happy to report the kids' meals at 4.43 come with a drink in a plastic kid cup. I got two of those and two #1 meals (Dad was there) and it was almost $27 (#1 is 7.39 each) which is a little more than PDQ but on par with Cane's. To the food: I have to preface this with I cannot stand a place that nickel & dimes it's customers for extra sauce. While I'm sure the proprietors of both establishments can make a case for that one guy who exploits the condiments they give, for the other 99.9% of us you look like a d-bag charging me 37 cents for honey mustard. It costs you 4 cents and you want to exploit me by charging almost ten times that? Both Layne's and Cane's should be ashamed, but Layne's is accustomed to it with that football team. Any way...I'm not going to strike them because since almost everything is the same between these two, unfortunately d-bagging customers is a popular thing. I miss PDQ and if they were still in the over saturated fingers market this would be a two star review, as the chicken was the same but you could get as many of their eight signatures sauces as you want. Oh well... A note about the "signature" sauce: If I go to class wearing a pink sombrero and get there and find Layne also wearing a pink sombrero then I shouldn't be able to use the words "signature sombrero" ever. Layne's signature sauce tastes exactly like the other place except it has Aggie tears added for saltiness. I still don't get why anyone likes either sauce other than because they are so limited on choices. That sauce is freaking terrible yo. Other than black pepper....Nope....that's really all you taste. Stick with ketchup or honey mustard. I'd like to note that for 5 strips you only get one sauce, which is there way of bending you over (I'm not even going there). Since this review might get a manager's response, a word to you guys: KNOCK IT OFF. I'll start bringing my own sauce for crying out loud. The chicken was fine. The fries were not fresh, but I guess the gang up front had more interesting things to talk about. There was a large group coming of about 15 looking at all the reserved signs they put up 90 minutes ahead of time. The potato salad was not worth the upgrade. It tasted like Sam's Choice which is still pretty freaking good but not worth the money they charge here. The chicken was very good, which is the reason for three stars. I could have done without Texas Toast; if you are going to go there, provide gravy. Lastly I was super pissed at the kid meals. Two strips and 13 crinkle cut fries thrown into a Togo container isn't what we pay for. Kids deserve a meal too, not a container pushing them out the door. So I think this place is great for those who have zero kids. While I will not be back (I discovered Super Chix in Frisco) I think they definitely are a competitor against the other place. Not gonna lie, I'm all about a chicken finger so I was super pumped to try something new on the chicken finger front. Conveniently located at the corner of 75 and McDermott, plenty of parking and well lit at night. The concept here is very similar to a very familiar chicken finger spot, your order includes fries, or/and potato salad, dipping sauce and Texas toast. Starting with the tenders, they are really small in size so if you're really hungry order a 5 piece not a 3 piece. The crispiness of the tender was my favorite part, seasoned well, chicken a little chewy. The fries were good, typical crinkle cut, good amount given. The potato salad comes in a small container, maybe about 1/3 cup or so, it was okay, no onions which is great. The dipping sauce was good, their ranch is super yummy, YES they have ranch! But that Texas toast, that was the best! They don't have a rewards program in place as of yet, which in my opinion is a plus. But they are working on it. Overall, it was good, but probably not my first choice for chicken strips. read more

Updating with 5 stars because I was reached out to by a host of this location who requested I return for a free family dinner. I appreciated the contact and the efforts. What's even better about this is I accidentally posted a review to the Katy location when it was meant for the Allen location. The Katy mgr immediately messaged me (not knowing I had put the wrong location) and offered 6 free meals. I recognized he was in a different area so I advised I was in Allen. After clarification, he offered to forward my information to the correct person. I was shocked at how quickly both Layne's locations attempted to remedy the order. Chicken Express is much further down the road, but it tastes better, especially after reading all the other negative reviews.
