Great! We sat on the patio on a 40 degree evening and were plenty warm with the heaters, the fireplace was a lovely spot for my daughter to work through the activities in the kids' menu. First time, brought our Sheepdog and our server Dana could not have been more friendly, welcoming and accommodating of him. She was fantastic! I had my first experience at the Lazy Dog this afternoon for lunch and it was a really terrific experience. My wife had been to the Buffalo Grove location with a friend and said that the vibe and food were really good and that we should try it some time. So today we were over near the Northbrook location so we decided to go there to grab some food. The environment is well laid out and very clean and the hostess had a great attitude while getting us seated. I was surprised at the depth of the menu with so many tasty sounding options in a variety of areas like Starters, Salads, Sandwiches, Burgers etc. I finally decided on the Cuban Sandwich that did not disappoint. Excellent combination of ingredients on the sandwich and the pork shoulder component was cooked to perfection. My wife had the Lettuce Wraps which she loved and I tried a small sample and could see why. With the large number of selections that they have you could go back many times and never have the same meal twice. The vibe inside the place is enjoyable and the noise level is easy to deal with. Our seats were along the glass wall that looked out over the enclosed patio with a nice fireplace where there were several tables that had their dogs with them which I thought was a very unique aspect of the Lazy Dog. One of the highlights of the day was our server Debbie who was very helpful answering our initial questions on menu selection and was very prompt in getting our order placed and our food out to us quickly. Best of all, she took a very vested interest in talking to us when we explained we were out celebrating the day we had met many years ago. She wanted to hear some of the details and showed she was a real people person. That type of attitude by members of the serving staff is what can separate an average dining experience from a totally enjoyable one like this one was. Wow!!! Awesome place, with a huge menu and excellent food & service. Tried a cup of tortilla soup and it was delicious - broth based with ample amount of chicken. For an entree I went with the lemon grilled chicken, it was fantastic and had excellent sides - mashed cauliflower and roasted green beans with tomatoes and slivered almonds. Terrible experience at Lazy Dog. We've never been to one of these before and we'll never be back. What looks like amazing down home cooking quickly changes to disgust. First off, be warned they only have so many low top tables. We were able to get seated pretty quickly but that didn't matter because it took a little bit for anyone to acknowledge us. Once we got our waitress, I started asking about coke vs Pepsi products and what they had. She then said she be right back and abruptly left us. Note, where we were seated you could see into the kitchen and prep area, so we saw her. She didn't come back for another 5 or so minutes, so I asked another waitress if they could send someone to our table. We had three kids with us and we were all ready to go, at least for a drink. Well when our waitress finally came back over we stayed we were also ready to order. I chose the $15 special of an entree and desert. I ordered the fried chicken, mash and the waitress said I needed to try the spinach and bacon, and if I didn't like it she'd bring me something else to try. I decided to go ahead. My mother ordered the southern fried chicken salad, my sister ordered the bacon burger. Now we had some modifications, no pink in burger, well done, which was stated numerous times. No egg on salad and corn on side (they were splitting, one wanted, one didn't). The kids got just Mac n cheese kids meals with fries, super simple. I also ordered a pizza dipper appetizer. Well, we never received our drinks, after waiting at least 20mins and me asking again another waitress to see if she could get ours. Get this, our food comes out BEFORE the drinks!!! No appetizer came out, nope, never got it! The food arrived and was wrong. Egg on salad and corn on top. The burger was big and pink inside with all the bloody juice all over the plate. No one ever came back over for the longest time. Then finally here's comes the waitress, who we tell that it didn't come out right. She says she'll be back. Finally, a manager comes over and apologizes and we let him know not only did things not come out right but we've waited and waited and waited. We got sat at just before 7. Not overly crowded at that time. And it was 8pm just getting our food and finally our drinks after that. Our poor kiddos were just thirsty, so were we! While the manager offered to recook things, it was so late and we were too hungry by that point. The burger couldn't be eaten with all the pink, though she tried to eat the edges, and the salad was somewhat consumed but it wasn't good the way it way. Also not the freshest leaves went into that salad. Now, for my "fried chicken".....there were no pictures but fried chicken felt safe. It said it came with two breasts, one with the $15 meal option. Let me tell you, it's basically a flattened piece of chicken or rather a patty that sits under a heater for hours and hours. It was a super thick breading, it had a weird taste and the chicken was so overcooked, like I said, just tasted like it had sat and sat. Not juicy, not a typically fried chicken breast as I was expecting and the chicken was just awful. I took two bites and I could eat anymore. It was that bad!!! Not to mention the spinach and bacon was basically an overcooked slop of just spinach with onions and maybe two little crumbs of bacon. And what's worse is it was sour tasting! I took that off my plate quickly, as it was inedible too. Remember how I mentioned it came with a dessert? Well, we ordered the banana pudding and a s'mores brownie sundae. You'd think these would be decent, nope, wrong again. Just abysmal that s'mores brownie sundae. The brownie was SO HARD and just plain terrible tasting, like when you forget you've left out a key ingredient. The banana pudding was a very odd texture, I wouldn't say it was good by any means. You also only get 3 nilla wafers on top and that's it. Was hoping for the soggy texture of those too but nope, on top. Oh and bananas, if you enjoy baby food kind, that's similar to what this is. No real bananas visible. Overall, terrible service, food was awful, and ambience was fine but the lack of low top tables could be a problem for others. There's nothing I'd want to even come back and try that's how lack luster that food was! Coke products are also served there after the front hostess guy and I had a whole conversation about how they served Pepsi. No idea how that even happened but definitely no Pepsi there. Save your money people! Average entree price is $24. Kids meals are $7.95. read more

Came for my first visit during Sunday brunch and had a wonderful experience. The breakfast burrito that I ordered was massive and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Our server, who was so attentive but not overly so, said many jokingly refer to it as the Hannover Burrito. My friend ordered the ham, cheese, and red pepper quiche, which has such a hearty-yet-flaky crust it looks like a personal deep dish pizza. I took a taste and will definitely be back for a whole serving. Complimentary cinnamon donut holes with a chocolate sauce were served before our meals in lieu of the standard daytime chips and wow were they delicious as a dessert. Great experience, and the menu is so expansive I will need to come back multiple times to try everything that looks good! read more

After the long slog of the holidays, we came here with some family who were visiting from out of town. We needed a break from the house, as well as a menu that would appeal to a variety of palates, and Lazy Dog hit the mark. I've been to the one in Vernon Hills a few times; this was my first visit to the new(ish?) Northbrook location. We were seated right away, which was appreciated, as everyone in our group was hungry. Service was a little slow at first - it took a long time for our table to be acknowledged by our server. Once he discovered we existed, we didn't have any additional delays. Lazy Dog's menu is huge and includes everything from sandwiches and burgers to Asian fusion bowls. It's a bit overwhelming if you're really not sure what you want, but I'd already decided I needed a burger in my life so that narrowed it down a bit. In addition to their bespoke beers, they have a fairly robust beer list that includes some local breweries like Moody Tongue. Our server was knowledgable and helpful during the ordering process. Specifically, when a member of our party ordered the pot pie, he called out that their pot pie filling includes mushrooms and checked to make sure that would be okay with her (it was not). I appreciate him flagging that, since mushrooms are an unusual pot pie filling (and a fairly divisive ingredient). My blue cheese burger was exactly what I needed, and the french fries were hot and crisp. Paired with a cold beer, I couldn't have been happier. Everyone enjoyed their meals and, aside from the blip in service at the beginning, we had a great experience. Looking forward to some patio beers this summer! read more

This visit, we dined on the patio and I opted for a Melvin IPA and the Ahi salad plate. I did sample both the brussel and cheese curd apps. The brussels were on the richer side from the treatment they received. This particular location has been many things over the years that have come and gone, but LD did a fairly intensive renovation of this space and it shows, the interior and exterior are inviting and I think this version hopefully will stick. I did note that dark blue dungarees and flannel seem to be the LD outfit which seems a little throwback, but given enough time, everything comes back around in some form eventually. Think I'm wrong? Stopped by for the first time on a Friday after work. Tried their happy hour $5 4-piece biscuit appetizer and it was a bit dry but very flavorful. Service was kinda of attentive. There were a ton of wait staff and OTJ trainees as well. The bar is very spacious but naturally was full of people. The tables, high tops and bench seating did not feel crowded with a packed house high ceilings seem to help defeat the amount of people in the space beer choices were good. I had the bison meatloaf, which was well done and very flavorful. Portion size was large but proportional to the $25 price. The out patio is sheltered from rain while dogs are welcomed. There isn't much to do around this restaurant, as it's alin the outside corner of the strip mall bookended with a grocery store, but parking is plenty. I ordered takeout for lunch. It was pretty quick. Pulled up to the pickup lane and they brought my food out. I had the fried chicken sandwich and Thai chicken salad. The chicken sandwich is pretty big. The slaw was well flavored and complemented the sandwich. Overall, I really enjoyed it! The fries are really good too. Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The Thai salad, which I thought they forgot to give me chicken, but it was just at the bottom. I wasn't a fan of the dressing. It was way too acidic for me. It's supposed to be a "spicy peanut vinaigrette", but you really don't get much of the peanut flavor. I probably wouldn't get this salad again and try something new. read more

I've been here several times now and I'm not impressed or having an urge to go back anytime soon. We sat at the bar a couple times and a table a couple times. Huge menu!! The 'small plates' are lame, over priced, and the portion size is very small. Take the chicken nachos for example, completely flavorless and the portion size was so small, hardly enough for two people let alone one, plus they were cold. The bacon candy and the small portion (again) of chicken tenders came out lukewarm and they ain't cheap...$16 for nachos with very little ingredients. It was like a child's portion, if fact most dishes are smaller and pricy for what is on the plate. Loads of beer choices and cocktails to fit any taste but bring your money as a lame Coors Lite 16 oz. is $6.75. Come on! Service at the bar is hit or miss, obviously depends on the bartender. Table service was very good for our party of eight. Indoor and patio/outdoor dining plus a mean fireplace. Don't get me going on the take home TV dinners, just leave that pleasant kids memory alone. One star for the food and value, three stars for the table service, so averaging out to two stars. Yelp rating for two stars means 'could've been better' and it damn sure should've been. read more

I had no specific knowledge of this restaurant when we picked it on a whim before going to the Chicago Botanic Garden. We called ahead and made a reservation for 10 including 4 kiddos. They gave us a private room (which was really nice given the energy of the kids) and made it special for one or the kid's second birthday that we were celebrating together. Eli was a wonderful waiter! Couldn't recommend his service more - he was kind, silly, and patient with the kids and made great food recommendations. The firecracker shrimp are a must have. I loved the campfire pot roast. The birthday boy also got a treat which all the kids enjoyed sharing! Highly recommend for a family outing with kids. We will be back! read more

Hostess was unfriendly and seemed like I was interrupting/bothering her at work. Server just seemed overworked and overall unhelpful. We went here on Saturday for lunch and got right in and sat at a beautiful booth in a little crowded of an area. Our server was fantastic! We started off with the nachos for an app and really liked how they tasted - we just needed some more of the cheese and toppings. For entrees we got the pad tai which we got refunded for (they were very nice) but it was not cooked correctly and the taste was very bland. I went with the Mediterranean chicken bowl and it was very tasty but the chicken was overcooked. Felt light and refreshing low. The food was delicious -- the smashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned and cooked to a crisp golden perfection, and the apple-huckleberry pie was exceptional. The aroma alone was amazing, and it tasted just as good as it smelled -- warm & comforting. What truly made the evening special was the exceptional service. When we arrived, I requested a quiet table since one of my guests has difficulty hearing. The manager, Michael Wright, overheard my request and thoughtfully suggested the heated patio. He personally checked the music level and proactively turned it down so we could comfortably enjoy conversation. He checked on us throughout the night, and our cozy dinner by the stone fireplace was delightful. Do not ever order takeout from this location. We've tried ordering from them about 6 times and took a break for a while because the experience was so bad. Just tried again today and it was more of the same. We pre-ordered an hour in advance for a pickup time. Got there on time to pickup and then texted to let them know I was there. After about 5 minutes got a response that our order would be another 10-15 minutes. Which only makes sense if they didn't start making it until I arrived. Unfortunately this matches our prior experiences here. The one time the food was not late it was ready about 30 minutes earlier than they said it would be ready, so by the time I got there and took it home it was cold. The experience if you go in the restaurant is fine. But never order takeout from here. read more

Bland food and unorganized service. Made an online reservation for the patio and was seated instead indoors next to the kitchen. They did find another table after I complained. While I appreciate that they have a gluten free menu, it's really just removing the parts of the dish that contain gluten and not replacing with anything - eg, burger with no bun and no fries. This doesn't make a kid very happy. The gf chicken was a plain piece of chicken with no seasoning, plain rice, and cucumbers. Very spartan. Food off the regular menu was okay, but meh. They charge $2 extra for seasoned fries. I can't think of a reason I would come back. read more

My second visit to Lazy Dog, first time to the Northbrook location. I was impressed. We were seated immediately, the restaurant was 3/4 full, and it was a lively atmosphere. The waitress was ebullient and professional. She frequently checked on us for refills and was patient with us as we perused the voluminous menu. My dining companion had the bison meatloaf. I opted for the All-American burger, and we split an order of the shrimp appetizer. Everything was tasty. I'm taking one star off, as my dining companion was very disappointed with her beer selection, one of the beers made on site, apparently. read more
