When I asked for his last name--which is a standard requirement for entry into a guard-gated community--and explained that he would also need to show his CA driver's license to enter the gate, he declined to provide it. He mentioned that he understands how gated communities work and felt that sharing that information was unnecessary. It seemed unusual that he was concerned about sharing his last name when basic information is generally accessible today. The conversation became a bit confusing when he compared providing his last name to being asked for a Social Security number, which didn't seem relevant to the situation. Overall, the interaction felt awkward and left me uncertain about the level of professionalism. For someone in a service-oriented role, clearer communication and a more straightforward approach would have made the experience much better. Based on my experience, I would suggest being cautious if you're considering hiring him.
